My wife has been a Walmart employee for going on 7 yrs and we get the Walmart discount and use a lot of great value brand items and we have no problem with it. I don’t have a number but I know we’ve saved a significant amount of money shopping this way.
4:20 - 4:38 there is no sound!!!
I was looking for this comment!
@@arielyiningloh Glad you found it!!!
I've found Aldi brands to often be as good or better than name brand. A big one is mayo. I'm a Hellman's girl, but their Burman's mayo tastes the same and costs a lot less. I've heard theyre the same product, but I can't confirm it. Aldi's wheat thins are better, as they're less sweet. Most of their chips are good, although their corn chips are nowhere near as good as Fritos. Cheese is great there, as is butter. Their hummus is amazing. Most cereal is great, but their honey nut cheerios are terrible. I think that product just can't be properly replicated.
Wal-Mart's version of Nutter Butters taste the same as name-brand. Their Golden Oreos knock-offs are pretty good, but they don't taste like Oreos. Butter and cheese are good. Hummus is good. Frozen veggies are good. Their Hawaiian rolls taste like the King's brand.
@therachelcruzeshow There is no volume on the health care ministry section clip.
We almost always buy generic unless name brand is on sale cheaper. One thing I prefer name brand of is dish soap. Dawn and Palmolive cut grease much better with less soap. I think generics have a higher water content. So I wait for a sale or good coupon and stock up then.
Nothing replaces Dawn and you need very little.
I was SHOCKED when I purchased the Aldi burman brand of mayonnaise to find no difference with Hellmans (which I generally will not move away from) - and less than $2. (I was commenting and now I see the exact same comment below.) We have both Aldi and Lidl in our city and I save a TON there. Lidl is a tiny bit higher than Aldi, but a much nicer shopping experience with brighter lights and wider aisles and bakery to DIE for.
Aldi uses name brands in different packaging
Woven Wheats are one of my favorite snacks! Glad to see them on here.
So, my children are now adults. In the 90's (before Dave Ramsey was famous) my playground moms' group was all into reading and trying ideas from Amy Dacyzn's books THE TIGHTWAD GAZETTE. Amy said those differences in flavor from name brand to store brand were acquired preferences. I made the switch then from Frosted MiniWheats to the store brand bag. Recently, my son (now 35 and living in another state)) had a bowl of the name brand his housemate bought. The name brand was so off taste to him, he had to tell me about it; proving Amy Dacyzn correct about the differences in re ideas being an acquired taste. 😊
I love this! Thank you. I have noticed when buying off brands at different stores small variances in the taste or texture, but not finding either bad.
I work on the principle of always try the generic product then if it is a like or an OK, it stays and only if we can't cope with or hate it, will it go. So far, the only branded item to stay is Heinz Tomato Sauce! A good hundred or so items swapped so far and more to try as things run out. Wish I'd thought to track the money saved!!
Never buy name brand in the first place, LOL
Dukes mayo only way to go no generic compares
Yes!!! My kids never even had the name brand.
For many years the only brand name you could find in my house was Crest toothpaste.
Pasta. Absolutely. It’s all about the sauce anyway. Having said that , I haven’t tried any of food lions sauces. I do buy Wegmans store brand, although they appear to be more expensive. I’m hooked on their pomodoro sauce, though.
Aldi->Trader Joe's->Dollar Store->Wal-Mart->Target->Unionized Grocery Chains
Follow this flowchart when buying groceries and home stuff. Whatever you can't get in the previous one, you get at the next one if they have it, and so on.
The unionized grocery stores are the worst and make up the most grocery stores.
The one thing that's virtually impossible to buy generic and make it near as good as name brand - Oreos. They are America's favorite cookie for a reason.
I buy mainly generic then decanter everything into nice jars or containers, even my instant coffee! You’d be surprised at how many don’t notice the difference when I put homebrand into a key brand recycled container.. My dishwashing liquid is homebrand & goes into a leading brand (recycled) squirty bottle. Why waste your money unnecessarily?!
Compliments store brand all the way here. Only a few things aren't as good, so I just do without them all together. However, nothing compares to oreos..
I love Compliments Store brand as well. Have you tried the Great Value version of Oreos? I was skeptical, but I didn't notice the difference.
I think for anyone who's living paycheck to paycheck, this isn't a question to begin with; it's generics all the way. There are very few brands that I absolutely insist on. Heinz ketchup is the only one I can think of, off the top of my head.
And a big bottle of ketchup will last a while - not like cereal which goes really fast. Kids' cereals are really a budget buster if you have a lot of kids. They have gone sky high in price with less in each box.
Unfortunately people living paycheck to paycheck Actually Are buying the name brands! I was that person 15 yrs ago using my own money, but my coworkers with food stamps are buying stuff I cant Remotely afford!
I buy primarily store brand now.
@@truthseeker6370 lol food stamp folks never buy name brand cause its all steak shrimp caviar lobster
@@truthseeker6370 and most of that is sold for drugs prostitutes and alcohol
@@jasonleatherwood2172 I had a step-sister who wanted me to go grocery shopping with her. We were both pregnant. I bought sale meat and such. She bought top-end meat, shrimp, top-end yogurt etc... and paid with food stamps! She was living with baby-daddy who was a brick layer. Government paid for their food, their birth, diapers etc.
I get a lot of generic store brands not all are good but its what you have to get used to especially with price rises
In the U.K., I love the Aldi version of Nutella, “Nutoka”. It tastes exactly the same to me 🤷🏻♀️
My mom tried this with cereal growing up, swamped the bags n everything, I couldn’t stand the taste and didn’t eat the cereal
Full 30 second video/audio break/cutout at about 4:15.
If you were to only ever buy generic, kids would never know another flavor. Youd have to start very early on though! No kids, so i could be wrong of course 😊
They do, though, b/c they also eat at other people's houses 😞
That’s what we did 8&4 even when they eat at friends house they prefer the off brand
@@Trustbutverify2651they learn to prefer the off brand
Aldi is my jam. $130 max to fill my entire cart.
Brilliant! After a while you won’t think of the difference at all but be used to the cheaper on, I know as I have done this with Tea krackers and other things!
my favorite part was at 4:21 !
Often name-brand has more allergy statements or is certified gluten free. Any tips for figuring out cross contamination when it’s a store brand and not labeled?
I didn't know Rachel enjoys eating wicker furniture!
4:22-4:37 is silent, just to make you aware 😊
I buy generic brand almost entirely, but my kids are a no-go on swapping out the cheerios 😂. Luckily at Publix, they are often bogo and you can stack the digital coupons! I stock up when the savings line up :)
I need to pick and choose generic brand raisins fo a sunmaid match. I buy Triscuit, Hint of salt fo less sodium.
Wow. Publix is expensive!!!
I buy generic on alm😢 everything unless it's not available. Well not including toiletries....but groceries yes! My son eats great value honey nut ohs almost every day for breakfast and no complaints. He is 18 though so will just about eat anything 😂
Anybody else have the Christian Healthcare Ministries ad section go silent on them?
There’s no sound at about 8 minutes
I am mostly generic other than soda/sparkling water. Anyone who does that is setting themselves up for failure. Just drink water if you can't get name brand.
Yes, name brands are worth it. For instance: some "off the shelf" brands of steel cut oats, quinoa, millet, and brown rice are labeled "organic" but when tested, have been found to have 2-10 times more pesticide residues then the popular organic name brands of the same items. Yes, organic name brand items are more expensive, but you'll be spending less at the doctor's and having to take off less sick days if your money is well spent. Obviously, don't buy anything highly processed (like breakfast cereals, breakfast bars, rice in a box, or other such nonsense). Buy only whole foods if you are buying "brand names" of anything. Anything else can come from your local farmers, such as vegetables and grass fed meat, antibiotic-free chicken, etc. It's tough to trust big brand names for organic items of these as well, so go local.
Note the "grass fed beef" scam. ALL beef is grass fed- what matters is how it's "finished"... likely not with grass. I got caught up in this "grass fed" myth myself and paid extra for basic beef.
And Organic doesn't mean pesticide-free either. Most Organic foods are treated with "approved" pesticides. What does that even mean 🤔
@@truthseeker6370 yeah, both reasons (bad beef and sprayed organics) are why it's important to shop at your local farmer; the person or persons you know and trust who don't spray their veggies and treat their animals right.
I've come to realize that the key to amassing wealth lies in making sound investments. I purchased my first home at the age of 21 for $87,000 and sold it for $197,000. My second home, acquired for $170,000, was later sold for $320,000, and my third property, purchased at $300,000, fetched $589,000, with buyers covering all closing costs and expenses. Not reaching a million before retirement feels like an unfulfilled goal.-
I'm exploring different investment opportunities and would appreciate others' insights on this matter..
Rachel’s not going to get away with “We can’t afford your favorite cereal kids.”
Audio 4:23 😢
I have found nothing equal to my Folgers coffee. I have tried store brands & I find I waste my money. I would love to save on that. A few name brands we are loyal to but mostly buy store brands that we are very happy with. It is amazing how much a person can save, & by paying attention on even the little items.
Agree, I've found that generics of name brand coffee almost never taste the a same
Wonder if Rachel ever shops at ALDI or Dollar stores or Walmart?
Start with generics from day one, and kids especially will never know the difference!
Isn’t Publix expensive
I buy generic of almost everything but not my honey nut cheerios!
Generic spices, canned goods, pasta sauce, cleaning products.
Hey Siri Walmart brand next time
Ugh - good save but so unhealthy ( these snacks are full of chemicals, pesticides and calories, yuck! How about fruit and vegetables, hummus, nuts and beans?
