100% they want you to engage in a fight that you can't win. When you argue with a fool no one can't tell who is who. A narcissist wants to waste your time because they know that you can succeed without them.

Can’t even trust family, I just keep my distance to from mine, best way is to remove yourself from certain peoples vicinity.

I never walk away from anything and anyone unless I imagine what it will be like without them. When I do this, I make sure that I am confident in my choice. Key word: imagine ;)
I agree that silence is the best way to punish someone WHO has treated me terribly. It is effective because these people who do me wrong want a reaction out of me, which is why I think they engage in toxic behavior to begin with. When they don’t get what they are looking for, they get mad and will maybe move on. The best thing about walking away in silence is you don’t make a clown and circus show out of yourself 🤡🎪
Also silence gives them time to think and reflect in their brain too. Whether you know or not what goes through their head, it does demonstrate respect, the kind where they may recognize they cannot control you.
