Feels like the Starset version is what you would hear during the movie and this version is what would be played at the end of the movie as the credit rolls where all problems had been solved.
The Downplay version is the one you listen to while working out at the gym or cleaning your room. The Starset version is the one you listen to while lying on your bed at night in the dark at 3am.
I'm like a year late but do none of you realise this isn't a cover and that this is Dustin Bates old band, this was the original, Starsets version is a remake.
I wonder if there's pre-transmissions versions of more of the songs off that album. I know there's this, and I've seen Down With The Fallen, but i wonder if there's more.
This one is definitely more uplifting than Starset's version on Transmissions. It seems happier with the higher notes, and hyped. The one on Transmissions sounds despairing, but they're both wonderful.
I agree. I mean I prefer Starset's version over this one (Starset's version is my fav song ever), but if Dustin'd involved, I know I'm not gonna be disappointed
Really glad I found this original version, and also really glad they remade it. I enjoy this more rock version a lot, but the softer version performed as Starset is so haunting and tragic. Don't think I'm ever going to get tired of the versatility these bands display with their music
From Wikipedia I came to know about the transition from downplay to starset And now I am here!! And this is my first time listening to this version of "Dark on me"
I was listening to music while drawing, suddenly this song started playing. I thought the rhythm was very good but when I heard "There's no hate, there's no love, only dark skies that hang above..." my expression completely changed. Although the Starset version is very emotive and I love that, I loved this version more 🤘✨
I know this is the original cut of the song, but this also legit sounds like if Breaking Benjamin covered the Starset version. You can't deny how much Dustin was influenced by BB here
I recognize the city traffic scenes from my local area here in Utah. That intersection that is shown in the beginning of the video is State Street and University Parkway in Orem, Utah. The street shot looking down the hill is in Provo. I can tell because the lights at the far end of the frame appear to be reflecting on water. That water is Utah Lake. I know this because I am local in the area and I live there.
@@ScamwatchDallin thanks. The image of State Street and University is looking like it is from the mid 2000s if not early 2010s because a lot has changed there since 2015.
Most Transmissions songs were supposed to be Downplay, originally! Most were played live and never really got a studio version, but Down with the Fallen did (the only real difference being there's extra vocals during the breakdown)
It reminds me (and several other commenters) of Breaking Benjamin, too. The guitar and the way that Dustin sings sound a lot like Breaking Benjamin. Some Starset tracks make me think the same. (Oh, wait...)
Starset's "Dark On Me" sounds very similar to Breaking Benjamin's "The Dark of You." When I listen to Starset's station on Pandora, Breaking Benjamin songs play frequently, especially songs from "Ember." So, no. It is not bad. Saying that these two bands sound similar is very reasonable.
Brandon Scott Downplay doesn't exist anymore, I think. The singer of Downplay is the singer of starset, and he wrote this song before starset existed, so we won't get a cover of ricochet:(

BLUE GOKU Exactly, but the fact that it's slow makes it go with the message so well. Plus this only sounds a bit like BB because Ben and Dustin are friends, and Dustin was inspired by BB.
Gosh I love this. This somehow reminds me of "Hyper music" by Muse. Its counterpart "Hyper Condriac Music" being soft and melancholic, just like how you feel right after a breakup. "Hyper Music" on the other end, is angry and uplifting, having more of an "after the pooring rain" feel where it is a lot more "I don't love you anymore" feel. I love to see bands flipping the melody in a song to completely change how it makes you feel, keeping the exact same lyrics somehow. It takes pure genius and talent to do it well.
I guess the most don’t understand/know that Starset and Downplay have the same singer. The Downplay version is Original. Dustin (the singer of both bands) just wanted to change the style of that song into a darker mode.
From what I heard is that something happened with the label and Downplay, it would've been a shame if songs like this, "Down With The Fallen" and "Everything I Am" would've went to waste
I've been reading comments in which many think that Starset version is the original. You're forgetting that Downplay came first, therefore this would be the original
this is actually the original version of the song! downplay is dustin bates’ (starset’s lead singer) former band, and they ended up remaking this song as starset!
i know this song came before Starset's version, but this one sounds like if Breaking Benjamind mixed their sound with Starset and then it would come this song

I had no idea it wasn't originally Starset's :O Good to know. Still, even though I like the guitar and all, I prefer Starset's version. In my opinion, it fits the lyrics better and shows more emotion, not just the music but the singing as well.
