One underrated touch to this burner compaired to the trangia burner is the metal clips are rounded off. The trangia clips were really sharp often times scratching or tearing some materials. I rounded off my trangia burner clips with sandpaper. Good to see the firebox burner already solved this 👌
Mark, thanks for the work of evaluating these stoves. I grew up in Alaska and have used canister stoves in many cold conditions. When it is colder than 0F i use a tea candle to heat the canister. This has worked to -40 every time.
The beauty of multifuel stoves. More than one option of cooking time, plus warmth. These burners would be a great necessity for rocket and wood gasifier stoves too. The rocket and wood gasifier stoves would be the perfect wind screen.
I couldn't find many reasons to use a remote canister stove unless it's very cold and need to use a heat pipe. A much lighter weight stove that sits on top of the canister would work just as well. Using the diffuser to grill looks like a great reason. Thanks for the video.
Hey Mark, I got mine today. I barely turned the collar just a smidge and covered about 1/10 of the air holes and it richened up the mixture and stopped sputtering out at wide open throttle. Still a nice blue flame but really works nice. Like you I don’t run mine at wide open. But it sure is cool to be able to adjust it.
I have never had any problems with the burner pot - also just received from firebox the upgrade it make it easy for the adjustment mixture you don’t need any tools now
Thanks for a well done review. I just received my burner and have yet to run it. I was looking for a way to grill for one person here at the house as well as out in the field. This looks like a way to do it. I think adding a foldable or roll-up windscreen might be a useful addition to the kit in the field. I love this stuff. It is so much fun.
G'day Mark, excellent review and demo mate. Outside of Triangia, didn't know these types of designs existed, that sure is think'n ......... INSIDE the box, lol. Diffuser; great little addition, I assume it would work much the same with a small frypan, probably still get some sort of central hotspot, but that'd take any fat dripping out of the equation. It does off course mean you need the firebox to use it. The same thing with legs to use it autonomously would be even better again IMO. But hey, as is; a windsheild and multifuel option for fire ban days, best of both worlds, love it. Also, it's still an important consideration, but I reckon gas efficiency becomes less of an issue, since in emergency you've always got wood to fall back on, (and contained), regardless of restrictions. Cheers Duke.
Hi Duke. The nice thing about this burner is that oit will fit in almost every setup that a Trangia would fit in. Yes, the diffuser will help with hot spots on pots and pans as well. Thanks for commenting
Great review Mark. I wonder about the defuser plate when used with a frying pan? Most small burners, and even medium sized burners, create such a hotspot in the middle of the pan that it makes them hard to use. Does the defuser solve that? Thanks again.
The diffuser plate is a good addition, I would definitely use it. Did the flame act in the same way with the diffuser on it, as it did with the pot? I have the same grill, it has come in handy a few times. ✌️🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️
Using this gas burner with the Trangia would give the stove excellent wind protection. Do you get the same level of wind protection with it in the Firebox stoves?
I love that you can use butane, propane, and an alcohol burner when wood is too moist to burn. This must be "Wood Plan A, Alcohol burner Plan B, Then gas burner Plan C."
The diffuser is a great idea for cooking drippy meats... I messed up a 500 series Coleman single burner, cooking Polish sausage/brats on a simple sticks whacked from the woods, held up at angle leaning on the guard(s) of my large camp knife. Two sticks, two sides of the guard is two brats. 'n how fast 'n simple the knife stuck to earth was. ~ I thought the grease just burning up after was fine. It ended up rotting out the burner. :-l ~~ Nice li'l burner they thunk up. I just don't think I'll ever go with li'l canisters of gas fuel. Pumper like Coleman fuel equipment does a nice flame for me.
So I’m definitely not a gas stove expert, but wouldn’t that adjustment be more for the type of gas or something? And aren’t there pure propane cylinders for colder weather? As for the full vs medium, seems like the jets are also blasting right to the outside, and around the pot, and not right into the pot. Plate is awesome, and the wide pattern seems awesome for spreading the heat. Surprising for such a small head Good for summer campers.
I can see why you might think that but I did try it with propane and it burns the same. Steve actually designed it for a softer flame, A diffuser of some type can really help for everything other than boiling. Thanks for commenting Jim
Tested. Works well, simmering in a pot is very good as is controlled frying pretty much avoiding hotspots. One could manage with a Trangia original burner but the FB gives more control.

Thank you for reviewing the firebox combination with various stoves.
Most welcome. Thanks for commenting
I am looking forward to receiving mine. You did a good job reviewing this Mark. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for commenting
Another excellent thorough review Mark. Well done.

Oooh. I think I want one!
Great review, sir. I hadn’t seen this before. Thanks!
Great value option to the Trangia for sure. Thanks for commenting

I always use a remote stove
1. Stability
2. because it is low it is away from tent fabric
3. Mush easier to protect from ind with a better burn

I use the Firebox Titanium G2 stove exclusively and this is an interesting product, thanks Mark
I have the Gen 2 in titanium as well. Great stove. This burner just add to the versatility. Thanks for commenting

Yes, I alos have learned about adjusting the collar a bit. I will be making an update video soon. Thanks for commenting
Very informative and professionally developed. Thank you.

It’s already ridiculous how much money I’ve spent with that company. And now this. Well here I go again.
LOL...yeah, so easy to do. Thanks for commenting
Yup 🤣
I have to laugh because I do it too. I was just thinking how nice a titanium Firebox G2 would be in the 4Runner...
@@nvrumi that’s my favorite stove of all.
I have been waiting for this review - thanks! Your thorough analysis helped me make my decision.

Great Demo & Tests, Thanks Mark, Steve's Good People ! ATB T God Bless
Totally agree. So good to work with. Thanks for commenting
Fantastic, thorough review!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting
You can also use the diffuser for baking.
I would think so but I would suggest still using a spacer inside the oven. Thanks for commenting

I think the creator was chillin to some oldies on vinyl records when he got this idea.
Steve is a classic for sure. Actually, a great piece of kit that add to the versatility. Thanks for commenting
Thank you for this review. You always do a comprehensive review.
I appreciate that! Thanks for commenting
I use the top to a tin can
I use a side cutting tin opener like from Ikea
Works excellently as a defuser
A diffuser is a great addition to any cook system. Thanks for commenting
I do the same, I keep several lids and I find all kinds of uses for them.
Great review. Could see clearly what you mean about how the flame behaves when the tap is fully open.
I have learned that it actually works best when not run at full blast. Thanks for commenting

I won't say it solves the issue but so far, the diffuser has been great for reducing risk or burning from hot spots. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft thanks again.

Great review as always Mark. Do you know if this burner has pressure regulator like some other canister stoves?
No, it is a standard un-regulated burner. Thanks for commenting
Very good

Using this gas burner with the Trangia would give the stove excellent wind protection. Do you get the same level of wind protection with it in the Firebox stoves?
The Firebox is good but a Trangia system would be better for wind protection. Thanks for commenting

Don't forget charcoal and wood pellets. I enjoy using charcoal in theese.
I agree, good to have options or backups. I also agree about pellets and charcoal. Thanks for commenting
I’m curious to know if you tried this in your Trangia setup. Does it snap into the Trangia as securely as the Trangia burner does?
Yes, I have the Trangia 25 cook system and it fits in perfectly. Thanks for commenting
How it compares to Trangia? Especialy in cold weather? Trangia's gas leading pipe gets hot improoving efficiency in low temperatures :)
It will not work as effectively in very cold weather when compared with the Trangia version. Thanks for commenting
Thank you Mark for reviewing stuff and answering questions ❤

The burner on my gas stove is so wide I have to use it on low with small pots because if I don't it takes longer and wastes fuel
Yes, that is a good point. Using gas stoves on high can waste a lot of fuel. Thanks for commenting
Does anyone know if this stove will fit into a Trangia windshield?
Yes it will. I have the 25 and it fits perfect. Thanks for commenting
Has anyone tried this in a Trangia kit with the diffuser?
I waited before replying so I could give it a try. It works perfectly in my 25. Thanks for asking
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Thanks for checking. The diffuser plate should make for a more even heat spread when using the Trangia frying pan.
Tested. Works well, simmering in a pot is very good as is controlled frying pretty much avoiding hotspots.

I think it's a bunson burner.

All your heat is shooting sideways, that is the largest contributor to the poor performance.
