    I was laughing SO hard when you took the lower radiator hose off while I could still hear the drain plug draining, and you said “a little bit will come out” 😂😂😂😂😂 and then a gallon comes dumping out bro what were you thinking

    Hey Trey! Thanks for the video and the entertainment. My daughter and I are changing the water pump in our '93 F350 and we dropped a screw in the nastiness and it was NASTY! Awesome video. If two ladies can do it, anybody can do it with your video!

    At 7:10 , when you brace the wrench to hold the pump against the pulley, you could put a 1/2" extention into the tensioner, and rest it against that.

    Good video man! I may be getting a truck like this which needs a pump and it covers all the "gotchas" someone might usually run into without being long and tedious. very valuable to me for sure!

    Good vid, thanks for the effort. I wrapped the ratchet strap twice around the water pump pulley then around the case of the AC compressor and alternator, I could wrench it down tight that way and not bend the fenders.

      Lol yeah but the radiator stop cock unfortunately isn't at the lowest point in the system so some fluid gets left in.

    Come to find out it was my pump leaking and I have a new pump and I'm gonna do the install myself and I wanted to ask why not leave the serpentine belt on while you break the clutch fan but lose? Looks like that'd hold it tight.

    better way of doing this would be to old the tensoner arm with a breaker bar but instead of loosing the belt and also removing the belt leave the belt on and use the breaker bar on the tensoner to tighten the belt and take a 4 to 8 pound hammer put a wrench on the clutch nut and hit the clutch nut wrench with the 4 to 8 pound hammer will nock the nut loose and you never have to remove the belt if you dont want it removed

    • @9076723311
      @9076723311 5 років тому

      That nut is really on there in most cases. Not sure sure if that would work. Definitely worth a try though.

    I have a 1999 7.3 with a six speed. The fan was damaged during a water pump replacement and I never replaced it. That was 10 years ago, I pull a 12,000 pound trailer and it has never even gotten close to running hot. I am replacing the water pump this weekend because the water outlet rotted. If I have to belch the truck out I will just do everything at once.

    You do a great job on your videos, they've helped me ALOT. I've run into a kinda weird problem. I have a 2002 Ford Excursion, 7.3 PSD. i'm just starting the water pump removal and my Clinton shop manual says the fan clutch nut has left hand threads, loosening would be clockwise. other sites have stated both. Left and right threaded. which is correct? Thanks

      A matter of perspective and what the fan shroud says. When standing infront of the motor it should be lefty loosy.

    drain coolant. remove fan & shroud.... He doesnt tell u the actual way you're supposed to do it. it's 10x easier than using straps....
    Get a set of adjustable fan clutch pliers/holders. u can get them for 15$ at oreiles. get the wrench. if u can afford a new waterpump, u can afford to do it the right way with the right tools.
    then hold onto the fan clutch bolts with the pliers and u then insert 1 fan clutch wrench and turn it by hand.
    the only info here anyone really needs is bolt sizes so they dont strip bolts.... and all u said is "they are all different sizes so make sure u use the right ones"
    thanks....
    FYI make sure u use a 6 point socket, not a 12 point, or u will strip bolts.

    • @TruckStuff1
      @TruckStuff1  3 роки тому

      The clutch was too tight for the wrenches. I tried it many times. This is a known issue and the strap method was developed by the community for those people with stuck fan clutches. If you don't like it, don't do it. 👍
      Also, the tools are free at O'Reilly's

    • @powerobsession734
      @powerobsession734 3 роки тому +1

      @@TruckStuff1 well for the people who needed the strap method, I'm sure it helped. Would be nice to include the actual info necessary for the install.
      I'm sure anyone can figure out how to drain a radiator. if not, the definitely shouldnt be installing a water pump by themselves. I was left scouring the video for info pertinent to the water pump install that wasent there. just feedback.
      For everyone else, the correct way prevents rounding off the clutch fan nut. u need a 1-7/8" wrench (47.875mm) with a set of clutch fan pulley holders. also, it's a 10mm socket unless u have a 94 model and are converting to the 95 1 piece design which uses 3x 3/8 bolts included in the kit.

    Not sure if my water pump is leaking or not. On the lower radiator hose where it connects to the water pump has coolant on the bolts and coolant is leaking off my lower radiator hose. If a water pump is leaking will my lower connector hose have coolant on it? By the way the truck only leaks when it's been driven then shut off for a few hours.

  • @Eagles0690

    Why do you have red coolant in that truck. If it’s and older truck it takes the green kind. I just read it in my manual because I’m fixing to change mine. Just saying, might wanna check that. Then again, maybe you’re working on a newer engine.
    That’s a good point about that belt. I bought a belt and hoses from 1a auto and that’s the belt they sent me. I like that much better. And if you have to change that belt on the road, you don’t wanna take that hose off. 👍

    • @TruckStuff1
      @TruckStuff1  4 роки тому

      It's a 2002 7.3L. The red coolant is heavy duty ELC coolant. It is a better coolant for diesel engines. Google "ELC coolant." It's expensive but lasts a lot longer and doesn't need maintaining like the gold and green coolants.

    Why is your coolant red

    • @TruckStuff1
      @TruckStuff1  2 роки тому

      What a great question!
      The red coolant is called ELC or Extended Life Coolant. It's more stable than the coolant that Ford has been using, and it is the coolant that international uses in the same engine in their vehicles. It's a heavy duty coolant designed for diesel engines and lasts 500,000 miles.

    That fan sure is a bitch. Took a fan wrench and a lot of hammering with a friend of mine holding back on the pulley with a strap wrench to get it off. If you have an air hammer you can get the removal kit that the Ford techs use that makes it WAY easier. Is that ELC coolant you have in there? I gotta do that to mine. I flushed my system last summer but used the Ford green anti-freeze with the VC-8 additive. I didn't know about ELC coolants really at the time.

    can you just not sawzall the clutch since your replacing it and save time on removal.

    • @George-jy7op
      @George-jy7op 7 років тому

      SAWZALL !?!?! Dude,you could IF you're replacing the clutch and water pump but, Trey's only replacing the waterpump and it's rare the clutch goes out along with a water pump. Trey explains it pretty good as do a few others commenting people, I just pulled mine and DID NOT watch Trey's video first and basically did it backwards (not advised), it just makes more use of a strap wrench and a pipe wrench with pipe on the end. Next time... well hopefully I won't have to do this for another 270.000 miles. I mean I love to sawzall things like the next guy and have a great Porter Cable with demo blade but, not here.

      George. well I'm at 425000. just going to start replacing everything on the front end pumps bad clutch makes noise so do the tensioners and idlers going to replace it all figured it's easiest Sawzall

    • @George-jy7op
      @George-jy7op 7 років тому

      David Jones Then go for it since you're replacing everything. Just remember keep those M8 1.25 X 10MM bolts from the center front pully, there are a bear to find and length is critical. Too long and you're digging into the pump housing.
      All those problems and so young... was it under water or you're just replacing just since you're there and why not? Curious how long it will take to buzz through it?

    • @davidjones2457
      @davidjones2457 7 років тому

      George have always changed the antifreeze every 2 years also adding penray additive for cooling systems to it. the water pump is just now starting to jump and grind so I figure it's better now been getting stranded somewhere and the clutch always makes noise in the summer has for about the last 3 years so I figure it's time
