History: On 27 June 1743, the British army and its allies, under the command of King George II and Lord Stair, won a victory at the Battle of Dettingen, over the French army, commanded by the Maréchal de Noailles and the Duc de Grammont. On the King's return a day of public thanksgiving was appointed, and Handel, at that time "Composer of the Musick to the Chapel Royal," was commissioned to write a Te Deum and an anthem ("The King Shall Rejoice") for the occasion. The work was composed between 17 and 29 July 1743 and was first performed on 27 November 1743 in the Chapel Royal of St. James's Palace, London in the presence of George II.

In my late 60 and have never heard this before...Now in Heaven !

I like this music. So sentimental it is. I've cried how powerful the voices and instruments sound. Job well done
Wonderful music. Glory to God.
THIS IS GLORY TO THE KING. GEORGE II LED THE TROOPS AGAINST THE FRENCH IN GLORIOUS BATTLE
As it is the tradition - and according to the words, this te Deum alternates glorious moments and calmer ones. But hte greatness of haendel appears fully in that composition. The score is splendidly directed, the rendition is quite noticeable.
Great work! Handel the English composer from Germany had such a gift!
Crazy how nearly 300 years later his music is still fresh!
+Jeff Welker I sang this in Calgary, Alberta with the Calgary Choral Society in the 1990's. I still have the live recording. I just love classical music
handel was german, he later became english., his biggest contempary was J.S.Bach- they never ever met,but admired each others music..
A splendid performance ! The "Thou art the King of glory" (13:43) is the best version i've ever heard.
Lindo!
Loves me some San Francisco Symphony & Chorus! I can't wait to sing this myself! Thank you for posting this.
Wonderful music! Thanks a lot for sharing this playlist!
Really love the play on the word "continually" - so cool!!
Stunningly beautiful and majestic. I feel the same awe when listening to the amazing duet Andrey Nemzer & Charlene Canty singing CANTICUM FRATRIS SOLIS, Such humility and inspiration!
great music
I really love classical music
THIS ISNT CLASSICAL FAM - YOU NEED TO LOVE IT A BIT MORE
The Bishop Butler Society Ltd applauds Seymour De Koven, the performers, the poster, and those who contributed to the discussion. It is "Come, Ye Sons of Art" that I remember best from his radio program. Thank you.
Bellísimo!!!! Sublime!!!!
Plein les oreilles et le coeur! Quel savoir-faire!
All the Earth doth worship😍

Similar are the opening verses of Psalms 25 and 31.

Please DO read everything I quote before asking such questions, the information was already there.
The work Te deum by Francisco António de Almeida, is the best!!
handel the great
I had no idea that the Chapel Royal of St James' Palace in London has such a gorgeous 'pendant' fan-vault! It is stunningly beautiful. It bears the hallmarks of JOHN WASTELL or, perhaps HENRY YVELE. Fabulous. Of course, it could be an entirely different location?
This is the marvellous vault of the Oxford Divinity School, about 1490, by William Orchard. Strictly, it is a Lierne Pendant Vault - "it was the pride of that ingenious man William Orchard to let his whole vault with all its complicated ribs appear to issue from [the] pendants, which of course for structural reasons it can't" (Sherwood and Pevsner, Oxfordshire, 1974). The Chapel Royal, St James Palace has a rather less ingenious panelled stucco ceiling - originally constructed about 1540, and enlarged by Sir Robert Smirke in 1839.
Viva Keurvorst von Hannover Georg and King of G.B. !
THIS ONE TAKES ME BACK TO THE 1980S WHEN I LISTENED TO DE KOVEN ON THE RADIO. THE 1ST MOVEMENT OF "THE DETTINGTON TE DEUM "WAS HIS OPENNING THEAM SONG & IT WAS HE WHO TAUGHT ME ABOUT THE BEAUTY OF BAROQUE MUSIC; AS HE WAS THE MASTER IN THAT ERA OF THIS MUSIC.
+Laura Marzz *PS. DE KOVEN ; NEVER REVEALED HIS FIRST NAME . EITHER ON HIS LONG RUNNING RADIO PGM. ; "THE DE KOVEN CONCERTS" OR FACE TO FACE TO ME I ASKED HIM , "WHY ….?" IN LATE 1978 ; BELIEVE IT OR NOT; AT THE COUNTER OF "BAY ELECTRONICS" ON WEST KINGSBRIDGE RD. IN THE BRONX , NEW YORK CITY . WE WERE BOTH PURCHASING THEIR SPECIAL ON "RECOTON" 90 MIN. AUDIO CASSETTE TAPES , LIKE TWO SOULS, LOST IN THE REALM OF "ART" . NOW ; I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE HIS FACE , (I'VE NEVER SEEN HIM OR ANY PIX'S OF HIM) , BUT AS SOON AS THIS MAN SPOKE TO THE SALES PERSON , I KNEW IMMEDIATELY ; WHO HE WAS , JUST FROM LISTENING TO HIM EVERY WEEK ON THE RADIO ; HIS VOICE IS THAT DISTINCTIVE, AND ; I THEN , SPOKE TO HIM ! NOW TO ANSWER THE QUESTION OF "WHY ?" . THIS , BAROQUE MUSIC "GENIUS" TOLD ME HE CONSIDERED HIS FIRST NAME "AN ANAKRINISM AND A COMPLETE ; AND TOTAL WASTE OF TIME ' .GEE ! I FELT FELT VERY STUPID , AT THAT MOMENT . I DID ASK HIM WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO WITH ALL OF THE 50 TAPES HE PURCHASED AND ,HE REPLIED , HE WAS SYNDICATING HIS WEEKLY RADIO SHOW ON "NPR' STATIONS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY . THE SALES PERSON ;, INFORMED ME , AS I WAS PURCHASING MY MEASLY 10 PACK OF CASSETTES ; OF HOW LUCKY I WAS TO MEET AND GREET THIS MAN; AND THAT DE KOVEN WAS HIS BEST CUSTOMER . I SHOULD HAVE ASKED FOR HIS AUTOGRAPH , BUT DIDN'T . MY LOSS ! DOES ANY ONE OUT THERE KNOW WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THIS MAN ? IS HE STILL ALIVE ? PLEASE EXCUSE ANY TYPOS AS I QUICKLY "SLOSHED" ALL THIS TOGETHER . THANX ! &
+Laura Marzz OK ! I'VE DONE SOME FURTHER CHECKING AND NOW I KNOW DE KOVEN'S FIRST NAME , IT'S "SEYMOUR" . THATS RIGHT "SEYMOUR DE KOVEN" WAS BORN 1N 1903 AND PASSED SEVERAL YEARS AFTER ,I SPOKE WITH HIM IN LATE 1978 . IF ANY OF YOU REMEMBER HIM AS FONDLY AS I DO , "GOOGLE" HIS NAME . YOU'LL FIND HIS N.Y. TIMES OBIT THERE AND . ON YOU TUBE JUST TYPE IN "DE KOVEN PRESENTS" AND YOU'LL FIND ; A WFUV FM AIR CHECK THAT MALFUNCTIONS WHEN YOU PLAY IT . THIS VERSION "DETTINGTON TE DEUM" IS AN EXCELLENT ONE ! &
+Laura Marzz Wow,remembering De Koven brings back some great memories of listening to him on Saturday mornings on WFUV here in New York in the sixties-I believe he opened with the Dettingen Te Deum and ended the program with Vivaldi's Gloria. He never identified these pieces, but if you became a member of his Barococo society,he would let you in on what they were.I only found out inadvertently years later from hearing via recordings and thinking "woa, those are De Koven's themes".That is quite an experience you had-yes,he had a very distinctive voice-thanks for relating it.I agree this is quite a good performance-I only knew the Simon Preston on Archiv.
+Dave Gallin WELL ! AT LONG LAST ; I'M GLAD SOMEBODY REMEMBERS "THE DE KOVEN CONCERTS" BESIDES ME ! THANK YOU DAVE ,FOR REMEMBERING . DID YOU KNOW THAT ONLY "O N E" , WFUV-FM AIR CHECK OF "THE GREAT DE KOVEN" EXISTS ON"YOU TUBE" ? @ I WONDER WHERE ALL THE REST OF THEM ARE ? AS YOU KNOW HE DEDICATED HIS LIFE TO THE STUDY OF "BAROCOCO" MUSIC , AND I HAVING LISTENED EVERY WEEK FOR 10+ YEARS WAS EXPECTING A GREAT MANY MORE OF THEM ON "YOU TUBE" . &
+Laura Marzz Hi Laura, thanks for the FYI on the FUV De Koven Presents-that was great-it seams he donated his tapes and archives to the University
of Wyoming, but the Library is charging big bucks to get a copy ($30 per
half hour according to one of the replies I read. Thanks again,a real present.
Großartig und mächtig! Lohnt sich sicher um Einstudieren.
Is this the best version I have heard or what?
What does "no 18" means?
I found it! DeKoven's closing theme!! SUPER, DUPER OTU (out of this universe), as DeKoven would say.
+BDNADLER THANX FOR REMEMBERING "DE KOVEN" !
Thank you for posting it. Who are these great performers and who is the conductor?
+vokatalin "BERNARD LABADIE" : IS THE CONDUCTOR ! DE KOVEN WOULD CERTAINLY APPROVE OF THIS VERSION , AS DO I ! & YOU TUBE
Thank you. I'm going to sing it in May in Budapest.
+vokatalin "GOOD LUCK" , IN BUDAPEST !
+Laura Marzz
Hi Laura, thank you as well. Could you also tell us the names of choir & orchestra and, if possible, date (or only year) and location of this concert (because up to now I never heard of De Koven).
Thank you in advance!
Did they also perform the anthem?
+HermanAlmanya IT'S "THE SAN FRANCISCO ORCH. AND CHORUS" LED BY: BERNARD LABADIE . "DE KOVEN" WAS THE WEEKLY RADIO MUSIC MASTER AND TEACHER "ON THE AIR" OF ALL THE 16th & 17th CENTURIES COMPOSERS . HIS LIFES WORK . I PERSONALLY LISTENED TO HIS PROGRAM REGULARLY FOR WELL OVER 10 + YEARS . ONE "AIR CHECK" OF HIS PROGRAM EXIST ON YOU TUBE . GO TO "DE KOVEN PRESENTS" ON YOU TUBE AND PLAY THE RADIO . ENJOY ! &

I hate the Samsung commercial. I HATE IT.
M'agrada HAENDEL I en genetral la música barroca.
Awful performance, but great work.
You're a clown
The Holy Trinity of music:
Bach: God The Father.
Haendel: God The Son.
Mozart: God The Holy Spirit.
No one compares to them, no one gets even close. Bach, Haendel, and Mozart are far beyond any other composers. They are the ultimate manifestation of music, and, as the concept of the Holy Trinity, are considered equal in that regard. Three inconmensurable distinct talents, one sublimity. Although Bach did not compose a Te Deum as such, he wrote several motets which attain the greatness of Haendel's Te Deum ua-cam.com/video/MVewzMm1uts/v-deo.html As for Mozart, he was only 13 when he composed his extraordinary Te Deum ua-cam.com/video/fTk21jy9Sn8/v-deo.html which, by all means, defines him as "proceeding from the Father and the Son".
Awful performance, but great piece.
You have to be kidding me, right? What, based on your 10 minutes of total time listening to the music of Handel? You are a clown.
