How to beat “Apex Predators" Arena challenge (Thunderjaw/Scorcher) - Horizon Forbidden West

- Hi, guys today I am going to show you an easy way to beat the hardest challenge in the Arena.
Just to be clear the game difficulty in this gameplay is set to Normal.
When you start, I suggest as soon as possible to kill the Scorcher by hitting its electrical component on his back. After that, you have to take out Thunderjaw’s discs launchers. Following I suggest you apply the acid status effect in order to deal more damage to the Thunderjaw. Next use smoke bombs to cover your position while you pick up one of the two-disc launchers. Keep dealing damage until you defeated the Thunderjaw.
Be aware you have 7 minutes and 30 seconds to complete this challenge, I managed to complete it in 4 minutes and 24 seconds so you should have a decent time window in case you get in trouble during the fight.

This fight is the dumbest thing I’ve ever been a part of. There are times when you can’t even get off of the fuckin ground because they won’t stop hitting you, and the thunder jaw is so goddamn big that it fucks the camera all up the whole fight.

Reminded me of Demon Soul's boss battles minus the fairness. Big difference between the AI being cheap vs mistakes by the player. This final challenge was very frustrating lol

I swear doing this on Hard was a nightmare. I'd stay on the ground for what felt like minutes trying to get the fuck up only to get blasted again by an explosion or another attack. Thank God I'm done with this bs lol

The number of times I scream “GET UPPP!!!” During these timed challenges. She takes at least five seconds!
For everyone doing the arena challenges (any challenge really)
... Highly recomend at least having the full purple weapons and outfits fully upgraded, but ideally, upgrade the legendary weapons to the max so that you have a much easier time. On Ultra Hard difficulty, even the first challenges are ridiculously hard... I know because I tried them with blue/very rare gear and got stomped into oblivion.
And also upgrade to the max some of the Valors like Critical and Ranged, which are going to be a massive help.
The Thunderjaw Disc Launchers or any of it's meele attacks and the Scorcher superfast Charge are one-shots unless you have extra health or legendary outfits maxed out with very good meele or ranged attacks resistance.
I just beat this on ultra hard with sheer will and unquenching hatred lol

This challenge is so frustrating because you're given really shit gear, it would be so easy if you could use your normal gear. But still less frustrating than the 2 bellowbacks + snapmaw that goes into the ground with 2% hp at 20 seconds and doesn't come back before the challenge fails
Don’t forget your elite blast traps guys they deal serious damage then use its discs against it .
This one is one of the worst challenges. Not having a ropecaster to tie die the scorcher is @$$
If that is your problem, I can solve that:
You actually CAN tie them down.
Part of your fixed Equipment is the "Cannister Ropecaster".
To me that thing is normally quite useless, my aim is just not good enough.
BUT you have access to the "Penetrating Rope" weapon technique.
If you use that, the Canister Ropecaster shoots binding ropes.
So if you shoot with R1 instead of R2 you fire binding ropes, throwing a smoke bomb first helps and if you wanna tie down the Thunderjaw you also need to use one of the Stamina potions.
If I wouldn't tie down the Thunderjaw to deal with the Scorcher I don't even stand a chance of living long enough not even talking about getting both in time.

Broke a controller on this fucking thing. Never ended up getting it. Controllers are expensive lol
Zero idea how you did this. I’ve tried over 100 times and still havnt beat it. It’s almost like the Thunderjaw wasn’t even trying to attack you. Every time I’ve tried it’s right on my ass no where I go.
This challenge pissed me off so much I quit the game and started something else.
I only have one mission to go to beat the story too. But eff it. I don’t care.

@@Firefight_ I reloaded saved game after every 4 times I failed on this challenge not to loose to much money.

Basically its the weapon special shot that can be activated with L2 + R1
This strategy does not work at all on Ultra Hard. I used 3 Braced Shots on the shock thing on the Scorcher and it still wouldn't explode. I wonder if it's glitched somehow? it literally will not explode no matter what.
This video was made when the game came out... The machines on ultra-hard have just more health so it's should work if you hit him with multiple shots...

@@xnoah87 Love how you say "just", like it's no big deal. It's a HUGE deal. And they do FAR more damage to you. Every single Melee attack from EITHER the Scorcher or Thunderjaw is instant death, and so is the Scorchers fire attack, and the Thunderjaws disc launcher attack. It's a big deal.
use poison traps + smoke bombs

Bombarding the scorcher first makes this fight easier.
Dude one thing I tell you. I appreciate your efforts but they are going to give you the same rewards no matter what difficulty you finish it in. So why bother?
You’re right, unlike the other videos in which I fight machines, this “tutorial” was made on normal difficulty…. Next tutorials will be on Very Hard since I want to show people that you can complete challenges on Very Hard as well….

Well this strategy is completely fucking useless unless you fully level up every item. Be realistic
Not every item is levelled up, you cannot choose your equipment for this Arena Challenge

Does that play a role?
Since the locked gear challenges even use weapon techniques and valor surges you haven't active yet I always assumed that it wouldn't matter if one owns or upgraded the used gear or what coils/weaves are equipped.
I was convinced that the only variable a player brings "to the party" is the choice in which level one plays or if one overheals before so you can start the trial with a bit of extra health.
I also never found out if it matters how much "low health bonuses" one has in the skill tree.
Why the jumping?
hunter reflexes
Likely has Aerial Attack coil equipped.
Most likely the coil bonuses and slight time delay you get.

Sometimes I need to remember that even those Arena trials were designed for the player to have fun not to torture us.
To me the challenge is not even that hard because I need to kill an Apex Scorcher and Apex Thunderjaw and even the time seems to be more than enough.
What makes it so hard is that it is one of the challenges where you don't get you choose what gear, weapon techniques and valor surge you wanna use but it is all fixed.
