I don't know if it's true, but I've heard that each of the seven archangels are said to rule over the Seven Cardinal Virtues: Chasity, Kindness, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Patience, and Humility; each virtue opposes one of the Seven Deadly Sins (Lust, Wrath, Envy, Pride, Gluttony, Sloth, and Greed), and IIRC each archangel has a demonic counterpart who rules over the Deadly Sins.
In Catholic - Orthodox traditions the 7 archangels are the patron saints of the 7 sacraments. 1 Baptism - Saint Gabriel 2 Confirmation - Saint Uriel 3 Eucharist - Saint Michael 4 Penance - Saint Raphael 5 Anointment - Saint Jehudiel (or Jegudiel ~ alternative name) 6 Orders - Saint Selaphiel 7 Matrimony - Saint Barachiel
@@baleriusoraprinceps9884 That would make sense if it weren't for one thing--aren't saints supposed to be humans who earned sainthood, rather than angels? I know that the prophet Ezekiel was "swept up" into Heaven and transformed into the angel Metatron, who then became the official spokesman (spokesangel?) for God if memory serves correctly, but he's one of several special cases, I would think.

Yep, "fascinating". Always remember that it's fantasy. It's not biblical. Angel/malak means messenger. When used for a message or messenger of God the word that they translate it to is angel. They aren't the ones from Hollywood. Humans and armies can and are refered to as angels.
It depends who you ask. The traditional Churches which would be the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, and Oriental Orthodox Church would all agree that there are seven Archangels the seven Seraphim. But when it comes to their names they are different with their answers. The Catholic Church ONLY acknowledges three of the seven by their names as these three are mentioned in Canonical Scripture which also includes the Deuterocanonical Book of Tobit so the three are St. Michael the Archangel, St. Gabriel the Archangel, and St. Raphael the Archangel. As mentioned before Uriel the Archangel was removed from the list of Saints by Pope St. Zachary along with the 2 Book of Esdras in the Latin Vulgate Bible which is actually the 4 Book of Esdras as originally the 4 Book of Esdras was not included in the Western Church rather it was given to them by the Eastern Church. Besides during Pope St. Zachary's time there were angel worshiping cults and the most popular of these cults was of Uriel the Archangel. Linking names to angels is a dangerous matter outside of Scripture as honoring such spirits might have not come from God but rather from man. The Eastern Orthodox Church acknowledges four of the seven from Canonical Scripture and the Deutercanonical Book of Tobit and 4 Book of Esdras. The other names came from the Jewish Septuagint which are not found within Scripture. They are St. Michael the Archangel, St. Gabriel the Archangel, St. Raphael the Archangel, Uriel the Archangel, Selaphiel the Archangel, Jefudiel the Archangel, and Barachiel the Archangel. The Oriental Orthodox Church like before uses Canonical Scripture and Deuterconancal Book of Tobit, 4 Book of Esdras, and the Book of Enoch. The Book of Enoch was never part of Scripture in the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church. They are St. Michael the Archangel, St. Gabriel the Archangel, St. Raphael the Archangel, Uriel the Archangel, Saraqael the Archangel, Raquel the Archangel, and Remiel the Archangel. The actual 1 Book of Esdras is the Book of Ezra in the Old Testament and the actual 2 Book of Esdras is the Book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament.
True, plus in the catholic church it is more diverse, if we consider just the Latin church then it is 3 but the catholic Church also has Eastern traditions from three lines, the nestorians the Orientals and the orthodox which follows their own list according to their church's traditions some even having 8 archangels St jeerehmeal (not sure with the spelling) and maronite church enen having 9
All of this should be taken with a grain of salt though -- all Scripture throughout history was written by a person, a human who claimed to know more than the next guy. Almost every religion in history has had texts added/removed throughout the centuries. It is therefore foolish to claim that one piece of Scripture is more or less valid than any other. We are but mice, describing the elephant upon which we walk.
I really like learning about the Angels and Demons in Christianity the stories and descriptions are quite fascinating, Personally i really like St Michael and Uriel.
Gabriel is my favourite biblical figure so I love seeing him get some spotlight on my favourite channel! Would love to see a more in-depth video on Gabriel, thanks for another great video!
Gabriel being a favorite name since first having heard it as a child in Sunday School was given my second born son.Gabriel Joseph was an odd name in 1978. Gabe took his life 12/08/21. My beautiful Angel My baby. My Blessing. All of my children’s names happen to be biblical. All chosen for their qualities.I’m always considering names I would choose today.Guilty pleasure.
I’m really interested in learning about the the Angels of the Old and New Testament and how they were alike/differed and also what they went through as time went by. Great video 👍
Props for mentioning Gustav Davidson and his work A Dictionary of Angels. I don't think I've seen anyone else, up to now, mention him and his work directly. When researching angels, his work is pretty much a definitive source, the only one you'll find in print anymore.
I know a number of things in angel lore/angelology. Gabriel is seated at God's left hand (3rd in command). Uriel has the power of Claircognizance: the ability to instantly know things without knowing why or how, "he just does". Jophiel/Jofiel in Lucifer and 1 ep of Supernatural has her as a guy but is suppose to have similar traits to Nithael, the angel of rejuvenation and eternal youth. In lore, Nithael helps people to attain the God's mercy and longevity. He protects the heads of state, presidents, monarchs, princes and all the people who devote their lives to spirituality and charity. He favours the continuation and legitimacy of families and business stability. He also helps people who need help from individuals in high places and provides a quiet and safe existence. Haniel (Hebrew: "Joy of God"), also known as Anael, Hanael or Aniel, she luminaries over love, passion and sexuality. Which make her the Christian counterpart to Aphrodite/Venus.
Perfect , you only forgot Lucifer who holds all the same main feautures and gifs of all the Angels , but holds some extra feautures as it is the most close to humans and holds all of the human emotions, and there for called often protector of all arts and human duality.... often knowen as fathers favorite, dont wanna sound coucky..... just a subject i am very good at
None of what you wrote is accurate. At all . My apologies for being so direct, I just don't know how else to say it. I don't mean to be upsetting to you . That is just inaccurate.
My favorite archangel is Raphael. I suppose since one of my sons is named Raphael (he will be 17 in a few months). Plus I think of Raphael as a Healer and I have had a lot of healing both physically, emotionally, and spirtitually.
He is also known as the undercover angel! And he also comes as a green light or orb when hes not out of his light!!Going backs 2 months ago I asked Jesus if Raphael to watch over my house when I was sleeping! At 445 am when I was getting into my car there was a green orb the size of a medicine ball at the back of my house and when I looked at it went straight up threw the back yards it was awesome. What a beautiful green it looked so awesome in color at night time...it was him letting me know that he was there..awesome stuff...

I always thought Saint Lucifer was a archangel. Considering he was God's most beautiful and the highest-ranking angel. Over the seven heavens; He overseeing 4 of them. And Saint Michael overseeing the other three. As St Lucifer; meaning. Morningstar or Morning Glory.
I belive the fact that most angels are referred to as ,,him" isn't because they're males per say,but because hebrew has grammatical genders, masculine and feminine, and so,instead of saying ,,angel" ,over and over again, they just say ,,angel" once and then use the masculine pronoun because I belive angel is a masculine noun
I remember one time many years ago. I used to catch trains at night in Sydney Australia to go to work on a late shift I used to work and one night a very longer than usual train pulled up at a platform I was waiting at. It was dark - I was on my own ( I oddly had little fear catching trains on my own at night ) - maybe just stupid in my younger years. Anyhow - when this longer than usual train pulled up I decided to go for one of the back carriages which were all mostly empty that I clearly recall. Although I could see most of these back carriages were empty, I was oddly being picky about which empty carriage to board - which thinking back - made no sense since they were all empty. So I finally opted for what was about the third to last carriage. I boarded and went downstairs ( there were upstairs and downstairs seats ) and then went about halfway down the carriage - not a single other soul around and finally sat down. The second I sat down, there was graffiti writing in front of me, written on the backseat of the seat in front of me. It said " Seven Angels are We Watching Over Your Destiny ". I looked around at other seats nearby - and could see no other kind of graffiti... 🤔
I grew up in a Jesuit-run catholic school in the Philippines. We're largely Roman-Catholic here and we do have Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael as the three principal Archangels. But the 7 archangels were sort of different. Ours included Judiel, Barachiel, Uriel, and Sealtiel. I sort of never questioned it ever (cuz I didn't want to stir up no trouble in a catholic school, no less). But one of my high school mates went on to become a Christian Living Education teacher in a Chinese catholic school and brought up the topic of angels. He informed us that the 7 we were taught was part of the Eastern Orthodox tradition. Also that there's apparently an 8th we never learned about.
I'm catholic as well and yes you're right there is an eighth one though not always his name is Saint Jeremiel. The other 4 you mentioned are official archangels as well in the Catholic church coming from the Eastern Catholic traditions. The 7 archangels are the patron saints of the 7 sacraments 1 Baptism - Saint Gabriel 2 Confirmation - Saint Uriel 3 Eucharist - Saint Michael 4 Penance - Saint Raphael 5 Anointment - Saint Jehudiel (or Jegudiel / judiel ~ alternate names) 6 Orders - Saint Selaphiel (or Sealtiel ~ alternate names ) 7 Matrimony - Saint Barachiel
@Itadori Yuuji I find it ironic that Islam refers to Michael as an angel of mercy, given his role in Revelation and his portrayal in mainstream media. XD
You are correct “el” is the connection. MichaEL, RaphaEL, UriEL, GabriEL, SamaEL (satan). Their names do have “god” meanings such as Michael - he who is like god.
I had a reading done once, and I was told the following: * My Birth angel is Barachiel, the provider, and protector of children. * My two guardian angels are Cassiel and Jophiel. My late mother's birth angel was also Barachiel.
bara in barachiel could be related to the second word in Genesis "Bereshiet bara Elohim." meaning somethinh like shaping of giving shape, traditionel translated as "create". for a birth angel quite appropriate.
I would really like for you to touch more on an Arabian mythology/Islamic eschatology standpoint. For example: The Preserved Tablet, The Dajjal, The Queen of Sheba and The Dabba (The Beast of the Earth) and much more. You’ve already made a video about the Jinn which i really liked and hope you would emphasize more on Middle Eastern topics.
Read somewhere recently that names were the first spells. The English pronunciation does not adequately convey the significance and meaning of Hebrew names. The suffix "el" signifies a divine being. Thus, Michael--Mik - ha - el--becomes "one who is like God." Similarly for the others, Gabriel, Samael, etc.. In order to get the point, one has to hear the correct sound 😇
In Islamic theology, Micheal/Mikaaeel is the angel appointed on sustenance. Mikaeel is also appointed on rain/clouds. The angel that's appointed to carry the souls is Ezraaeeel. Gabriel/Gibraeel is not only the messenger of Allah but also the leader of all angels. He has access to a point where he gets his commandments and other angels take orders from him. An angel appointed on the trumpet blowing which will annihilate the creation at the end of times is Israafeel. There's an Islamic field that deals with angels and there's a way to find out the angels working behind a thing. There are countless angels like tankafeel, roohael, dardaael, hazorael...

Not that far off, the word 'demon' comes from greek Daimon and are the halfway point between the mundane and the divine. They could be helpful or harmful, or even a combination of the two depending on how one entreats them.
Today in Serbian Orthodox Church is a Holly Day called Arandjelovdan/Archangel Day. It is the day of Archangel Michael, but also is considered as the day of other Archangels and Angels.
There's 4 archangels attributed to the holy kingdom of Wales. Its why it's called Gumry on the sign as you enter the country. G - Gabriel U - Uriel M- Michael R - Raphiel Y - You. It's a long hidden in plain sight secret. It leads to many things. Such as why the North West Coast of Wales is shaped by man to look like a pharoh pointing out to something specific, as well as why you can read all of the Egyptian and etruscan text and hieroglyphs easily using the Welsh language. Also where Christianity was born and the first Christian Church of 37AD in South Wales (St Illids Church) not the medieval one but the original (Round) Church who's ruins can still be seen next to it. It also leads to the graves of Joseph of arimathea in bute park next to Cardiff Castle, and jesus' grave on Ynys Dinas Pembrokeshire South West Wales. Ynys Dinas is next to Dinas cross (the city of the cross) which has jerrico to the north on old maps. These are north of the city of David (St Davids) which is west of bethlehem . A nasareth also in North Wales by the pharoh shaped coastline mentioned earlier. Mount sion also in South Wales. And Grusilum now labelled as Caerwent Roman fort. You can even see the foot print of solomans temple inside it. Britainshiddenhistory channel have lots of info on this. Also the whole country is litter with mounds perfectly placed to represent each star of the babylonian zodiac. And the land in-between the vast hills they are situated on ( which also weirdly line up) are shaped to the zodiac the mounds represent. It's why the language of Welsh was assaulted in schools and anyone who spoke it was canned in the not so distant past. And why everything found in the country is never british, but instantly labelled Roman, saxon or Norman instantly. Truths returning like a lion

I love that Christianity has taken from other religions what they like and demonized the things they dislike. This helps confirm this. I see no difference between this and polytheism. On a separate note another great video.
How else do you think man could use religion to rule the world? Religion was corrupted the moment the elite of the days found they could manipulate the 'lessers' with the word.. and fear of God. Just a personal opinion.
@@jacobwillis7596 to name the two big ones. Tartarus the place used for wicked angels., comes from Greek Mythology. It is a place within Hades (which in Christianity is hell, though that isn't true.) The concept of weighing your spirit to see if it can get into heaven is an ancient Egyptian concept where your heart was weighed against a feather of Maat (goddess of truth and justice) in order to be allowed entry into the after life.

So did we ever find out what killed Camael? "Justice" seems pretty dead nowadays so he died somehow. Was it humanity that killed him? Was it intentional or did he just like, choke on a plastic straw or something?
@@jacobwillis7596 Were you not paying to attention to politics and civil rights movements over the last... many decades? Its was a commentary with delivered with dark humor, pretty common form of humor in these dark times. Anyways this was more intended as a joke, but angels can and do die, part of the whole Armageddon thing and the final battle between heaven and hell, many of the "demons" and lords of hell are literally angels themselves who turned on god and sided with Lucifer.. Fallen or not they are angels and still posses abilities consistent with angels. Think Abaddon or Samael, still angels but they are very dark in purpose. Samael is known as "Gods left hand" and "the wrath of god" but most famously "the angel of death", Not evil, has his rebelious moment but ultimately atones and stays loyal to god. Abaddon, or Apollyon in some texts, is the angel of the void, the end bringer. He brings pestilence, war, famine and absolute destruction, he is mentioned in one text by Lucifer as the one angel even he, Lucifer, the "perfect angel" truly fears. That basically says Lucifer would rather go another hundred round with Michael than piss off Abaddon. Is Abaddon an angel? Yes. Can he kill angels? Yes, and he does, many in fact. In some tellings he is indeed an demon, but in others he is a loyal angel to god given a grim duty. Some suggest he is more than an angel but rather an Archangel. Angels can die at the hands of other angels depending on the texts. Im not a biblical scholar but I do love learning about mythologies past and present.

I just recently became a fan of that show Supernatural and got up through 9 seasons. I had to take a break because it’s getting a bit in repetitive and I’m not sure if it’s worth continuing but the way that the archangels were portrayed in that show bothered me but it also got me to thinking about how accurate it could be. I think it’s likely that angels are most likely jealous and/or bothered by humans. It would make sense that they would grow resentful of humans.
I always tell people to stop at the end of season 5. That's when it was suppose to end, and after that the creator, main writers and most of the creative team left. After that it felt like they were mining Tumblr for plots
When I was researching Raphael which even normal Christians forgotten about him other than Michael & Gabriel. Raphael also helps Tobias to marry Sarah, if anyone needs a partner arranged and helped by God, St. Raphael is the figure you can pray to for assistance.
Stop praying to angels, you are praying to fallen angels and demons. Angels of God do not accept prayer, worship or reverence. they do not in any way equate themselves with GOD almighty. Only lucifer and his fallen do. that is why they are fallen
though im catholic and only believe in michael gabriel and raphael its still great to see what other archangels are believed in. keep up the good work😁😁
I always get confused about those actual the actual 7 and their fonctions cause only 3/4 are actually recognized overall depending on the canon, Michael, Gabriel , Raphael and sometimes Uriel in some eastern traditions…then there is like a gagillion name variations for the supposed remaining three and sometimes for Uriel too…and then there are like the other 70 or so named angels in the Kabbalah traditions…anyway…confusing topic !
I wish we knew more about Jophiel. I come the protestant version of christianity, so my knowledge of the archangels is very limited, but I find myself drawn to wanting to learn of them. Maybe this is because of my namesake and I've heard from some sources that Jophiel is interchangeable with Sophiel so that might be why I feel so drawn to her specifically
I am not sure, but only Michael is designated as the archangel by the bible. The prefix arch refers to a chief, a principle, or a powerful angel. Please enlighten me.
What about Azreal- The Prince of locusts or the one who will ascent from the pit to plague man and Samael-The left hand, blindness, the ( basically ) dark side of GOD... Are they actually Arch angels?? I thought they were.
Wonderful and informative content. Muslims believe in the following archangels which is very similar. Mikaeel or Michael is the angel responsible for weather, Jibreel or Gabriel is the leader of the archangels with a status as a mighty warrior against evil and a divine revelation messenger, Israfeel or Rafael will sound the end of days trumpet, Izraeel is the angel of death and Azazeel is the fallen angel who later became Shaitan or Satan after being cast out by Allah or God. There are numerous other lesser angels with other duties. Keep up the great work!
I have never heard of the last three. The book of Enoch gives very different names. Though I am still very new to studying the occult and religion. I still find it fascinating. I do find it funny though that there are all these angels with wild ass names that are hard to pronounce and then there’s Michael.
Only God knows what their names mean. Even Michael's name has a different meaning than the way we say his name. We must remember, the spiritual word and God himself. Do not operate the way our realm on earth operates. Do humans understand what keeps the ocean back? No! But God speaks how he keeps the ocean behind its gates. And the Lord said in Job 38:10. Who closed the gates to hold back the sea when it burst from the womb of the earth? 9. It was I who covered the sea with clouds and wrapped it in darkness. 10. I marked a (boundary) for the sea and kept it behind bolted gates. Therefore, we (humans) are not privy to God's magnificent realm. The names of angels and demons are too powerful for humans to understand. Unless God bestows the gift onto man.
I say this with compassion to the reader. I recently recognized that darkness is able to disguise itself as angels of light (as expressed in biblical scripture 2 Corinthians 11:14). I saw that what I thought was a heavenly experience turned into something very negative. Doreen Virtue, bestselling author, describes her own experience of this in her book "Deceived No More", where we are encouraged not to call upon angels, "nor ask for angelic messages or favors. The reason? God is protecting us from demons posing as angels" (quoted from D.Virtue). I trust in Jesus and bring the loving reminder that we can also pray to the Creator directly. May you and your loved ones be safe from deception - thank you for reading, God bless!

Honestly if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see you cover the angels and demons of the Sephirot and Qlipoth tbh. There's an anime series called Date A Live that actually has their names used and I'd love to learn more about them
Anime uses religious, and mythos from all over the world all the time for characters, often far out of context, or out from one sliver of belief in what that "person/deity/thing" was supposed to all about in their origin. 7 deadly sins, uses 4 of the "angels" in their story as an example.

Do you have any info on the origins of the Greek myths? I'm particularly interested in Jason & Theseus; I think David Adams' doco looking at Jason & the Oxus River civ. raised some very interesting ideas (esp. questioning true location of Colchis). Also the dates of origin are meaningful; do you think they cld be Neolithic in their beginnings? Hoping you have more info than me. Anyone looking for traces of "lost antediluvian civilizations" should be starting there!
Interesting info about Michael and the scales, reminds me of Anubis. I would love a WEBTOON about the seven demons of hell and the seven angels of heaven that takes place in the aftermath of the final judgment of humanity in revaluations with God decided to redo the events that led to the end of the world to get a different brand new outcome then before. Maybe with seven humans as a bonus. Well I’d like this anyway. Anyone’s thoughts?
I was going to offer a correction that there are 13, not 7, until the narrator mentioned that they are going by a Greek author as a source. Alas, no mention of Azrael, Cassiel, Metatron, or others. An interesting facet no one ever delves into, or even acknowledges in passing, are the unique personalities each have, from humorous to childlike curiosity to unyielding sternness.
Gabriel also is one of the death angels, the one who takes the souls of kings, aldo the one who slide his finger over our lips before we are born, so we forget everything we know about the eternal realm. He also is the bearer of the schyte, which the death is often portrayed with. And it was used in the battle of lucifer rebellion.
It was not the angel Gabriel but indeed a demon that presented himself to Muhammad. Also gave him the Satanic Verses Mohammed himself admitted to being possessed by a demon.

Thank you for the extra detail and differentiation.

Thank you for the interesting info! Those are very interesting details!

Interesting. Have you ever prayed to Jesus and ask Him for clarity?
The Angels Jopheil, Camael, and Zadkiel are very underrepresented.
Thank you for these, they are all really informative 👏 and I appreciated the effort you put into making them.
What we should not forget is the archetypes they represent and how they affect History, psychology and so on.
And the role they play in creation.

In Mormon theology, Adam becomes Michael

There's 4 archangels attributed to the holy kingdom of Wales. Its why it's called Gumry on the sign as you enter the country.
G - Gabriel
U - Uriel
M- Michael
R - Raphiel
Y - You.

I am not sure, but only Michael is designated as the archangel by the bible. The prefix arch refers to a chief, a principle, or a powerful angel. Please enlighten me.

There are four Angels of the earth who look after the natural elements
This is incorrect, In the Muslim narrative, Satan, is not an angel, and was never an angel.
Thanks for the info. Wonderful video as always !
Your work has been amazing. I really like your study and explanation.
Do you think you could do a video on the Epic of Gilgamesh? I’m still scratching my head on that.
11:39, if I do not hear from a Zadkiel arcytype soon, I think we shall have some trouble.

I was just looking this stuff up.
Notice they all have el in the their name, i heard thats El as in God's name, El in Elohim, ironically Lucifer was the only one who did not have God in his name
Elohim is Jewish, Lucifer is Roman.
Gabriel and Hermes must take daily bets and go out for fun some times. I imagine they'd be friendly rivals if they were real.
So I actually have a story I wrote where they’re bros
@@jacobwillis7596 give. I want my divine speedy boi broship
@@nothingunderthemask eh I can’t given it’s mostly world building for a table top game but yeah in the Age of Myth they were part of a chaos crew with Loki

They'll hate each other Hermes is a pagan god and Yahweh hates pagan gods
One of the earlier Prophets described seeing Gabriel and describing him as being more beautiful than the "fairest maiden" , and that inspired the earlier
Master painters to mostly paint the Angels looking quite feminine.
Honestly if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see you cover the angels and demons of the Sephirot and Qlipoth tbh. There's an anime series called Date A Live that actually has their names used and I'd love to learn more about them
Lol
Anime uses religious, and mythos from all over the world all the time for characters, often far out of context, or out from one sliver of belief in what that "person/deity/thing" was supposed to all about in their origin.
7 deadly sins, uses 4 of the "angels" in their story as an example.
Yeah ask me anything Godzilla !
your channel is straight fire. loving it
Enlightening.
You can tell them..
Any time now, and with regard to the Maxwell trial; Bring More Millstones.

Could please reupload this video with Closed Captioning in English and other language options so people who are deaf or hard of hearing or who have an Auditory Processing Disorder. Thanks in advance.
I Love learning something new everyday this channel is Dope!!!! Always looking forward to new episodes
I absolutely love this video, very informative. However, I just wish Closed Captioning were available to the Hard of Hearing or Deaf folk who might appreciate this video as well. I am not Hard of Hearing however I do have ADHD and love to focus on the words while I am hearing information to better absorb it. Closed Captions would have helped me greatly.
Yes! He’s back
Do you have any info on the origins of the Greek myths?
God and the devil should take turns picking the 7 humans dodgeball style and they decide who gets to pick the last one via rock paper scissors.
@@Hill_Country_Violet lol!
There also an angel of worship n no I m not talking about Satan
Isn't Azrael also an Archangel or am I mistaken?
Eh. He isn't canon in Christianity.
Sorry but can anyone tell me why all archangels' names end with EL (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, jophiel etc.....
I thought that was Abbadon?
When is dantes inferno part three coming up??
It’s not happening, didn’t perform well enough
