    Max Martin is the freaking man. The most prolific, influential, yet somehow underrated dude out there.

    Max Martin is definitely one of the best songwriters / producers in the music business. In the late 90s and the early 2000s he ruled the pop radio stations. When he wrote Britney Spears first to Mega hits I consider that genius.( Hit Me Baby One More Time) followed by ( Oops I Did It Again). Can we say "Man with the Golden Ear."

    Dr. Luke....recycles a lot of his songs, not saying he’s not creative because he’s really formed a sound for Kesha, Katy Perry and such.
    But Max literally has hit song after hit song and he doesn’t seem to show any signs of stopping. :)

    Just saw & Juliet on Broadway, which features a mashup of all of these artists and the songs that he helped put together. I would say that he's more of a sound maker, someone with a profound sensitivity to catches and hooks that grab your ear even before you know what the lyrics are (I think Katy Perry mentioned he started out just humming gibberish but that was sort of the template off of which he worked). How often are the lyrics misheard, after all? The foot in the door musically is the sound, and he seems to be a sonic siren. There's an art in that, even if it's not the most poetic or avant garde lyrically; the sound is what binds the lyrics and music together, and by extension, the audience.

  • @djvoid1
    @djvoid1 4 роки тому +2

    He discovered a loophole of catchyness. The result is music that people that aren't really interested in music love and that music obsessives despise. I see his writing style as akin to the invention of the automatic milking machine where before we were milking the cow by hand. Perhaps we were being kinder to the animal, but hey... more milk!

    • @johnnycaper_
      @johnnycaper_ 4 роки тому +1

      I think the loophole is going back to those days when you just started playing instrument, learned a couple of chords and jammed along or played your favourite songs. I think the key answer is into punk rock - 3 chords and it sounds good. I mean cmon remember those times when you just picked up a guitar and learned to play those 2 chords and had so much fun. That's where it's at lol. Somewhere along the way we lose that feeling because we want to evolve and play more complicated songs. Yeah it's good to learn new stuff, but sometimes we lose the fun aspect of it all. So going back to basics is always a way to remind yourself that it's al about having fun :))

    Dude is obviously talented, especially for melodies. But strange enough, his songs rarely play as evergreens on a radio where we ofteh hear all those past hits from Tina Turner to many other. I think because his method is formulaic, very pleasing on first listening but often forgotten after awhile.
    You obviously cannot compose evergreens all the time, but you can churn out formulaic hits year after year. Either you are artist or formulaic constructor. Max has chosen second path.

    • @sellammar1
      @sellammar1 6 років тому +12

      I am Dutch and a lot of Brintney Spears as well as Ace of Base and of course Backstreet Boys all their early hits are often played on radio. Also I was working in Singapore last year and I heard every day his music played there. And a guy there who knows a lot about what Music is played in Singapore says that his Music is more played than even Elvis and The Beatles. Another weird thing is that Swedish Music in general are very much played all around Asia. Like China, Japan Phillipines. Even Russia.

      Depends on which side are you looking from. The whole thing of melody or some vocal being liked by the masses is so magical and interesting. Unfortunately it is used mostly for making money, but it doesn't make it bad from the core.

      But that is the best thing. And the hardest thing. It's commercial because it's what humans are designed to enjoy most. Like sugar. I'd prefer that to something completely forgettable and 'deep' for the sake of being 'cool' in your own mind.

      it's the camera lens choice and how it compresses and flatten their faces. I think they chose that lens for the "blur background effect" and the total field of view of the scene but it was the wrong focal length for certain faces. and the distance of the talent from the camera affects how round/wide they looked, maybe they didn't have enough depth to play with choosing where to put the cameras and talents

    I really can't stand his approach of super formularic composing combined with highly emotional content. It just feels so shallow and pushy, it touches me the same way that advertisings do. Max Martin is very talented for sure, but for me he's one of the major faults of modern pop music.

    • @maximthefox

      Max Martin is next levels of talented. These artists are totally right when they say he's a genius. There's no other word for Max than that. You are completely right though. His productions are so tight, so rigid and particularly placed, that they do lack soul. The pop industry has massively suffered from that musical ideology and it would be nice to go back to the days of more percussive / acoustic sounding instrumentation rather than the tight synths and swell drops that are so prevelant in Martins mixes. It's a shame that someone as talented and focused as Martin (who was in a rockband as well!) didn't push a bit more for that kind of sound.

      I had the exact same impression until I started listening to his oldest hits, and was really surprised that those songs didn't age a day. He really is a genius, but I think there's a difference in his 90's early 00's hits compared to the later years. The Cheiron studio was truly a magical hitfactory.

      @jeff-md7km 7 років тому +17

      Because I been reflecting on why music is what is for last ten years or
      so. And I think max Martin is a big reason to why it is. I think what
      he ended up doing was making more genres the same more then ever because
      of his wide public influence. A better world for music is more
      diversity to a wider audience, not one man writing all the songs for
      dozens and dozens of " artists"

      his songs have made extremely many people happy for various reasons, for a long time. It's not like he alone dictates what's meta or popular, he's been adapting to the "next big sound" for a huge part of his carreer. I learned that in a podcast biography special featuring him and Shellback.
