You make watching paint dry fun!
You're so sweet! Thank you for watching 😊
Two things if you use the rubber spatual it needs to be wet or soapy so they won't pop right away. And if you use the dish soap and put a few drops of glycerin in the water the bubbles will last longer. when I blow bubbles with the kiddos, I use bubble soap, Ajax dish soap and glycerin and the bubbles last longer and get huge. My favorite was doing it with a kiddie pool and a hula hoop, they got enormous. I can't wait to try this.
Thanks so much for adding your expertise to this technique!
I saw the first way you did the bubbles but never got around to it. So glad I waited for this experiment! this is a game-changer😊 more concentrated and you use less paint
Yes, this way is MUCH easier! Glad you waited too!
Thank you, Catherine.
You're so welcome, thank you for watching!
I love this and can't wait to try it. I knew I kept that straw for a reason! 😅
Have fun and happy bubble-making! 😊🫧
Very pretty!
Thank you so much!
Thanks, this is a great way to have a bit more control over the placement of the pattern .Glycerine makes dish soap bubbles stronger in my experience with 5 kids and years of bubble liquid making😊 😊😊
That is a wonderful tip! I'll add that to the list of recommendations for people that may be struggling with the bubbles.
I have done colored bubbles your first way by coloring the liquid but your second way is a game changer. You got the most intense colors without being watered down and then using more than one color, well, I'm blown away! I made a pun! Anyways, thank you for this. I get the kids to do the blowing and I do the tinting and organizations of my papers. Excited to try out the new way.
I am so happy you found this video so helpful! I cannot wait for you to try it out!
Hello Catherine, such a fun video to watch! I tried with Dawn liquid, and experimented with Daler Rowney acrylic inks. That way no mixing acrylics with water and no brushes. I just barely touched the dropper on the bubbles and got some cool effects. Definitely hit or miss though to not use too much ink, but so fun!
Using acrylic inks is a great idea. Glad you are having fun experimenting with this technique.
I just made a whole bunch of bubble papers for Collage Kickstart 2.0, one of my favorite techniques. Now i am totally enthralled with this method and i"m going to try it. Thanks Cat for all the great ideas and demos!
Oh how fabulous! You are going to love this simpler way of creating bubble paper. Can't wait to see your finished collages at the end.
Great new addition to an already awesome technique.
Glad you think so! Thank you!
So fun! I can’t wait to get some bubbles and try this! Thanks for sharing 🫧💛
Have fun! It's a blast!
Superbe 😍😍
Thanks so much!
Great video -- that bubble mix is amazing. I like to control things, it's my nature and this approach does give you more control with the colours.
I'm not surprised alcohol ink didn't work. Alcohol is a solvent and would affect the surface tension of the bubbles.
Did you try a pipette or a very fine dropper?
I didn't, but they should work as well.
Using the kids bubbles, are you adding water? I think I'm seeing liquid in the cup but Im not sure. Thank you!
Thank you Catherine this is awesome! I have to assume this won't work with tissue paper or transparent papers?
It should work with both!
Brava! I was skeptical, at first, when you were applying the plain bubbles, then the paint, but seeing is believing- your examples turned out beautifully!😊 Thank you! Would an eye dropper, as opposed to a brush, work?
Thanks, I love them too! I would think the eye dropper would work as long as it doesn't apply too much paint. The bubbles will pop too quickly if too much paint it applied, and then you won't get the honeycomb designs.
Great papers. I'm just wondering if you found the kiddie bubbles sticky, I've seen a few people say their papers were sticky after! just wondered if you experienced that at all.
I didn't find them to be sticky. Maybe didn't brands of kid's bubbles act differently???
I like thinner paper for use in collage. What do you use to glue watercolor paper in collage? Matt gel?
Yes, I glue heavier collage papers with matte gel.
One question, do you seal or use a fixative on these before using in a collage?
Good question. It depends on the paint I use. If using acrylic, most likely you won't need a fixative, and can glue straight into a collage. However, I won't know this for sure until I make my collages using these papers, which happen in the next month, and will be a UA-cam video.
Could you please repeat the ratios of paint to water to soap for making your solutions?
For this bubble technique, you only need a children's bubble mix, full strength. If you use the dish soap method, its approximately 1/2 soap and 1/2 water.
Do you think an eye dropper would work to get a little more pigment on the paper?
Maybe, sounds like an experiment waiting to happen! Let me know!!
Could you use a pipette to drop the color?
I'm thinking this would work as long as you put a very small amount of paint on the bubble at a time.
@@catrains.artistoh of course
What if a dropper was used instead of a tiny pain brush?
Sounds like a good way to drop the paint. Try it and see!
Hi Catherine-I am getting big wet messes! Straight kids bubble stuff, a paper straw and mix media paper
It’s soaking the paper and not working at all
Phooey
@@judykane7682 You want to use a heavier weight paper. Your mixed media paper probably is not heavy enough.
