- Hello Lovelies,
This Ngu / Potash alternativeis made from Palm bunch stem. It's simple and easy to make at home. A lot of people add " eatable potash" to their recipes when needed. But i personnel do not think that potash is healthy because, it usually upsets my system anytime I eat anything that contains potash. So this home made potash alternative works so well for me and I have no issues using it.
Enjoy the recipe and let me know how it goes in the comment section. Please do not forget to subscribe, like and share my videos. Please support the Upcoming.

Okay, thanks for sharing.
Can the ngu cure ulcer
Plantain peel? How? Please can you give detail info🙏
I don’t like akanwu because it disturbs me alone and i am Enugu girl, (you know now, Abacha and ndi Enugu na 5 & 6). Our neighbors from Isuochi makes this type of ngu and it never run my stomach. Your video just brought back so many memories, just wondering how to get this your ngu. The life of those living abroad is not an easy thing. Thank you sis.
Do you live in the UK? If yes, that will be easier for me to send you some.
You can say that again. Me eating Akanwu is looking for a big trouble in my stomach hahahaha! but Ngu is very good for me.
Thank you sis . My mum sent me the undiluted ngu. She did explain but I still had my fears 😂. But your video helped. Thank you and God bless.
Glad I could help. Thanks dear for coming around.
Tnx for this, pls I will like to refer to this particular video on my video on 'how to prepare ukwa', cos I used ngu to make it
Thanks for watching. Please do and let me know so I will check out your video too.
@@ELLANMA the video is up now, u can watch it, tnx
Pls which airline allowed you carry it in liquid form? 🤣🤣that’s not true. Local flight in Nigeria won’t even carry it in liquid how much more international flight
Hahahaha! I will laugh with you too. Well, if you don't believe it, I won't argue with you. But for you to say that local flight in Nigeria won't even carry it means, either you don't live in Nigeria or you don't fly. People even carry red oil let alone ordinary water. let's leave it at that for now.
Don't say what you don't know, liquid can be carried in a flight if properly wrapped.
This is how my grandmother do it Proudly Isuochi Born
Wow! good to know. Thanks for watching dear.
Those the both have same taste.
Not exactly.
Thanks alot
You're welcome dear. Thanks for watching.
Well detailed as usual. Thanks and keep going.
Much appreciated dear. Thanks for watching.
This is good, it is more healthy.
Thanks for watching.
Please can already made ngu powder be bought in Lagos local markets? Who are those selling it?
Though I don't live in Lagos but I think those selling things some food stuff like banger, Ogiri, Okpei, ehuru will possibly have it. Just ask them.
Thanks for coming around.
Please can i use it for cooking okro soup. Thank you it's so insporing and educative.
If it's the red oil yes, but the Eketeke you may not like the taste if you use it alone to cook.
Very nice 👍. Healthier than potash and baking soda.
Yes, thanks.
lovely😊👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome tnx for sharing
Thanks for watching. I appreciate.
Very informative video
Thanks dear for watching. I appreciate it.
Pls ma how can u preserve it and how long
You can preserve it for a long time as far as I know. Especially when it is in powder form. I have kept mine for over 2 years now and still using it. The one I took to them in London has stayed over 2 years because it seems they only use it when am around Lol!
@@ELLANMA ok nne thanks so much
Please how were you able to dry the palm oil bunch stems, each time i attempt to dry mine they end up decaying
Just make sure the weather is very sunny and no amount of water or rain touches it/them.
Also where you keep it/them in the evening matters. Keep them in a dry place where it will not sweat.
Again as long as there's sun, bring them out everyday. Don't skip any day so they don't start sweating where you kept them because that can make them to start decaying.
Hope this helps.
What is eketeeke?
Eketeke is another kind of red oil that thickens your Ngu. But you can do without it.
I want to know how it turn white because mine is very dark
If it is the Ngu liquid you are saying that it's too dark, 2 things could cause that. One, may be you didn't allow it too settle very well before filtering it or a lot of the ash particles passed through while you were filtering it. There my be other reason but this 2, am sure of. Hope you get my point.....
Lovely... I use dried unripe plantain peels.
Great tip, thanks for sharing. Did it give same result?
Can i use yam peels for making this
Honestly I don't know about that. You can research about it and see.
Wow! This is very helpful. Thank you so much for sharing this ❤️
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Pls do you a video on how to produce the "eketeke"?
Yes I will in due time. Thanks for coming around and watching.
This is well detailed. Please what’re is the link to the other “thickner”. I think you call it eketeke.
Sorry dear, I have not prepared that yet. But have it on my to do list. Anytime I upload it, you will see it if you subscribe and turn on the notification bell. But for now, you can still enjoy your Ngu without the eketeke. Thanks for supporting dear. I appreciate.
I learnt new things today, thank You.

Pls is Ngu safe in pregnancy? I want to use it for abacha
I think so because its far safer than potash. But you can also google/research it yourself. For myself, potash is a no, no👎...
@@ELLANMA thank you 😊
Well-done job
Thank you very much. I appreciate your support.
Kind show us how to make ETEKETE . Thank you.
Will try to do that. Thanks for watching.
Thank you very much.
This is beautiful
Thanks dear.
Which oil is eketeke
It's another kind of oil that we use alongside the normal red oil to make ngu. Though it's not compulsory but it makes the ngu come out better.
You can say it's a younger sister to red oil hahaha!
Where is it gotten from
Good work
Thank you so much.
Nice One
Thanks for watching.
Please can the back of unripe plantain be burnt to achieve the same potash?
My dear, I have not heard that of '' back of unripe plantain'' before. But did anyone tell you back of unripe plantain can be used? Let me know, may be I can learn from it too.
Yes but I don't know how true that is
@@favourconfidence5097 okay no worries. We learn everyday. I will give it a try and see. Thanks for the info.
Please do put an update here after trying it. Thanks
@@ELLANMAYes please, my tribe also uses this as an alternative method.
That's how my mum did hers. She is usually use ngu. It's we the new generation that likes the potash. Stress-free mehn.
But she don't burn the palm fruit head. She dry and burn the small branches that hold the nuts. Not the head itself. This is first time I'm seeing the head burnt and used as ngu. Well done. We learn every day.
Oh! you see, that's good to know. Like you said, we learn everyday. I have learnt that too. Thanks for watching dear.
How do you get eketeke?
Eketeke is made from Palm nuts just like the normal red oil but their process differs. Like I said in the video, you can make your Ngu without Eketeke.
@@ELLANMA thank you so much 😊
@@amarastella-maris2552 you're welcome dear 👍
@@ELLANMA Pls ma, is nmanu eketeke same as nmanu that doesn't have ojukwu inside? Kindly reply
@@nonyenonye1481 The nmanu Eketeke is made with the Agwu Ojukwu itself not the normal palm nuts. Eketeke is very good for Ngu but you can do without it.
