Lol, I too have a weird habit of absorbing others accents while I talk to them, like my half sister from mass, after an hour of us hanging out; the Bostonian in my blood homes out. I think the reason people have accents is because of our facial muscles settling into one position or another depending on the language and dialects spoken. Ever had your mouth stop working right because it's gone numb in the cold, same principle, it's involuntary. At my work as a cashier, I'm always practicing different accents on total strangers... until someone actually has one.. then I try to stop.
Its natural to mimic others. It's how we made friends before we had language we're pretty sure. Humans naturally do it without intending harm. Also I do it too, feel your pain. Used to spend summers in the south of the US and I'd come home to Canada saying y'all by end of summer...

Oh my God! I totally can relate. I often unintentionally follow a person's accent when I talk to them. A friend of mine was offended once and I couldn't really explain myself. But I swear it was just something I did unintentionally.
I do this with people’s laughs! It’s so embarrassing. I don’t even think about it but I pick up different laughs and there have been a couple times it’s been obvious and the person looks at me weird. 🤦🏻♀️ I don’t know how or why it happens.

This really made me laugh. That's not usual. I thought your dad was going to up chuck on the cat. lol. He came again & we hurried outside to talk. He had holes all over his pants & he lost a dollar & our young son ran & picked it up & wouldn't give it back.
