I’m really trying to keep a tight budget, and you all graciously gifted me Discover, thank you! I was sure I’d just run with that for now. Then I heard the samples in my headphones... and then I saw I had the $49 deducted from core, even though you gifted it! Wow. Who does that?? I think you can guess the outcome: $300 charge on my Visa card now, lol. Pro eventually but Core is SO WORTH IT. That’s chump change for a full integrated orchestral library of a real orchestra. I get it now. Game changer.
The graphic comparison featuring the differences in resolution and saturation convinced me to upgrade from Discovery to Core. Grand! One of the best decisions of late.
On REAPER, here - template would be the bee's knees. Core looks like the way to go for me. You're quite the salesman. Damn you Christian Henson ... and bless you, too.
@@NicStride A couple of people have made them in the Spitfire users group on Facebook. I made my own one with very basic routing for Discover. I just had a track per articulation going to a section bus, then the section bus going to an orchestra bus with each section having a verb send. It's very basic but it gets the job done. Only took about half an hour to make.
I absolutely love how detailed and informative this is. Really helps me understand the differences! (And the production quality is fantastic, it's hard to find "un-fluffed" walkthroughs of sample libraries!)
Congratulations on presenting us with a completely new way of building up a great library. This would be a wonderful platform to give us the ability to work with the unique sounds of different orchestras from around the world!
wow, christian is the first founder/CEO of an audio software developement company that i believe really stands behind their product. the way he is amazed by the work of his employees really makes me wanna buy this stuff. so either that or he is a brilliant actor... :D
Got my copy of Core the day it came out and I still can't believe how good it sounds and how much value for the money you get. BTW when I use the multiple instances template (cubase) from the spitfire page I can work my way around the problem with not being able to unload articulations, as each track comes (probably set from Pro) with only a few articulations loaded (they're separated in legato, longs, shorts and fx). As all tracks are disabled when you open it you can really just pick and choose wich articulations to use.
I've gone and made my own template for Studio One. I found the one on te Spitfire site a bit complex for my tastes, so I just made one with each of the instruments, and some setup for Articulation switching. Then I threw in a channel for my drum plugin of choice (Addictive Drums, setup with Fairfax kit), 3 audio channels for Bass and a pair of Guitars, a group for Kontakt and some midi channels to feed it and a pair of channels for vocals. So far, its all great. I'll probably add some printing tracks to generate stems for later mixing. Still gotta work out a good way to build up "pad" orchestrations.... But its all working good so far. Oh one big thing. It appears Studio One and Spitfire have very different ideas on where C0 lies on a piano.
This is probably one of the best libraries I have come across so far. The mode switching function is a game changer. Can you please make a video on the different templates you have created for Logic, Cubase and other DAWs and explain a little? That will be a great help. Thanks a ton.
While I don't write orchestral compositions I do write orchestral-inspired elements into my productions, I thank you so much for providing me with a free copy of Discover. When financially able, I will most certainly be purchasing Core!
The Way I saw it, and the reason I chose Core over Pro is that Discover is for everyone, no matter if you're learning or just want to add some colour to your work, Core is for composers that need the full instrumental pallet ready and Pro is more for producers and mixers that fine tune the composer's work for broadcast (though in many cases that job overlaps with the composer's job).
Would be really nice to know if you're going to add the ability to unload articulations into Core. As it has been pointed out elsewhere, this is available in Pro and all of the other Spitfire libraries. I personally think it is going to put a lot of people off buying. It is the only reason I'm holding back at the moment.
@@TheCrowHillCo Absolutely brilliant. Any ideas when this will be? Obviously would like to purchase this while the introductory sales period is still on.
@@TheCrowHillCo Hi Christian, will this be a free update if we buy Core right now to benefit from the sale? Thanks so much I will probably buy it today!
Discover is such a great idea for beginners but also to have a sample. I also started with Discover and bought Core because of that, one of the greatest vstplugins for orchestra.
The Core and the mix is absolutely amazing. I just spent the weekend refining my new BBC template for my updated Reaper DAW system, and it runs like a dream. Many thanks for yet another enlightening video Christian!
Just got my download code today. Really impressed with the gui in general though it needs icons in each section to help the eye. I use cinematic studio strings which has the best legato I’ve ever heard but I really appreciated the response. Probably at the very least brilliant for the actual composing part of things due to its speed
Please add the ability to load and unload articulations! The library is great , but this is such a basic feature, i am really surprised it didnt make it's way from the pro version.
This is truly impressive! I looked at the website, and the playing techniques your libraries offer really support 20th and 21st century composers! What I did NOT find out is whether there is a different amount of playing techniques available between the CORE and the PRO version? According to what you say most likely not. But just in case there are more playing techniques available in PRO, would you mind to put a link where they can be found? (The "What you get" menu option on the website does not list the playing techniques in this particular case as it does with other libs; probably because the list would be incredibly long.) Personally. what would interest me as a viewer who has no Spitfire library ATM would be an introduction to the Orchestra's percussion instruments and how to use them. Thank you very much! Feeling very motivated!
have been trying to decide between going with core for a fuller orchestral library (percussion, etc) or picking up the Spitfire Studio brass and woodwinds to go with the strings... tough decision, so thanks for giving us until the 31st!
I hope there won’t come a day when I regret being an early purchaser of pro, a day when you can’t reasonably make a case that pro is seriously superior to core. That’s a lot of money for mic positions. But I do applaud the discover give away, that helps a lot of folks get started.
Core was a yes for me, and very very pleased with it, especially now I've worked out that expression map outputs need to be 1 octave lower than specified to work with Cubase ! Why is middle C C4 with Spitfire, just out of interest ? That's no where near the middle of an 88 note keyboard !
I bought Core a few months ago having despaired of finding an orchestra to play my sax concerto, and am quite staggered by its power and realism. However one thing I am finding a struggle is rhythmic accuracy, particularly in fast passages, and adjusting for the different attack times of different instruments and articulations. Maybe a video to advise on this?
You should really create templates for Reaper since it's super stable and quick with BBC SO (more than Live and PtoTools on PC) and it's also accessible to the blind.
Ill buy CORE when you have a template for Digital Performer. Please make that soon. :) ............................Also, for those reading, I use a Yamaha s90xs for a controller. great keyboard feel, has SAW remote that can be mapped easily and can be found online for around the same price as top-of-the-line controller. It also comes loaded with all the sounds of the MOTIF line of Yamaha keyboards S90 pianos included. Just wanted to mention that since i read below there are lots of questions asking about good controllers.
I created a String Ensemble score in Dorico 5 and have BBC Core as VST but everytime I assign a sound to a channel (e.g. Violin 1 channel 1... 2 for 2... etc.); It is only saving the last sound I saved! What am I missing... This is driving me crazy. Never had the issue with EW, Garritan, Vienna, etc.
It would be really cool to add the extended woodwinds from pro into core but excluding the extra mic positions. I know, it’s a big ask... :). I miss not having a Cor Anglais.
Hi, thanks for the video. Just I have one question, different from Spitfire Strings, there i can assign a Ccmidi control to the articulation, but here i can't see any option to do that, so we must work with all the articulations opens on tracks into the session? Thanks
Would it be better to run core as a multitimbral in Logic or have a separate instance for each articulation? In multitimbral how would one control volume for each channel?
Love the videos. I fell in love with Spitfire sonic textures several years ago and ready for motor. If I was to upgrade my currently Albion's to all the Albions (to form orch central- so to speak), how does this compare to getting the full Pro BBC version instead. Anyone? Nice work on the App too.
I use Core, with some other libraries to supplement the missing instruments that Pro has. One thing really bugs me (and it wasn't fixed in the patch that fixed the legato) and that is the xfade on the solo horn long patch. It comes in way to early and it's a very harsh sound. horns a4 does it way better. please tweak!
Delighted with Core. I was put off Pro by the enormous size of the library. I too would like to be able to unload articulations not needed - the pencil icon for doing this is shown in the Core manual - but doesn't exist in reality. Pity. Easy to fix in an update maybe? I'm using Spitfire solo strings to get the 'leaders' and using the close mics only it works really well.
I wonder if I use Spitfire Studio strings in the same manner as mentionned above if they would incorporate fine... they where NOT recorded in the same studio. Air studio One for Studio Strings and BBC was recorded at London’s famous Maida Vale Studios. @christianhenson your opinionof they would blend well? Thanks
Thanks for this, very exciting, and just what I need to get cracking after a very very long break from writing. I will be going for Core, after much deliberation over which of your many libraries available to buy! It is a shame Bass Clarinet isn't in core. My question is about articulations - do we need to create a separate track for each articulation for each instrument, or is there another way to switch? I'm not very good at that side of things, though I am trying to learn.
In case you haven't found out in the two years since your original comment, you can assign keys outside of the instrument's range to select different articulations (default is octave -1). Man I love this product
Hi, Could you please do a video showing how to do articulation sets with BBCSO Core, because so far I have not been successful and getting stressed over it !! When I say articulation sets , I mean being able to change the articulation of specific notes via the Piano roll in logic Pro X with the BBCSO Plugin. Thank you!!
Very inspiring. I have written a lot of music. I am a 71 year old guitarist first (advanced) and somewhat basic on keyboards. I read music and notation. I am going to break myself in with Discover mainly cos I need to learn orchestration and I thank you for your 2 videos on that. I am using a 5 year old Novation launchkey 49 right now, looking at your NI M32 and are you still using Yamaha P60, which the P45 seems to be modern equivalent. Should I get one of those or semi weighted with aftertouch be sufficent. Help please in that area. I want a keyboard specifically to orchestrate. Once I have something in Discover I like and find I am capable I will move up to Core and upgrade my Novation. Thank you for any recommendation and help you are able to give.
I have Discovery. The string sounds, especially violins, all have a noticeable quick increase in volume in the LONG mode, regardless of which settings I try (all the velocity profiles). I am looking for a steady-volume string sound. Is this something I can only get in CORE, or is there a way to achieve it in Discovery?? Thanks!
@@TheSnowLeopard Honestly both Discover & Core are still very impressive, especially when you look at EW's libraries being 60GB+ a pop WITHOUT mic positions :0
Okay -- you've convinced me even though this doesn't have UACC (still hate keyswitches for articulations but if I have to buy another keyboard just to do it I will). Bought and downloading.
@@danielmartinezflamenco You're asking ME? Hey, I'm not the expert here. Ask Christian. But if I were buying ANOTHER keyboard I'd make sure it was a full 88 key one (to use these keys). Either that or get at least 61 with pads you can remap to other keys (I'm using the Akai MPK261).
I haven´t even watch the video, but oh you marketing geniuses! Give me the free version, explain the limitations, put a contest so i can participate with my new free orchetsa, then make me fell weak when the other participants sound amaizing with their paid libraries and make me think it is becasue of the librearies and not becasue i am a noob. While you post, a few days after realeasing discover, this video. Is just imopsible not to buy the upgrade..... this happened to a friend by the way
Thanks as always great content - I have a suggestion for a topic maybe you're interested: How to setup a midi controller for film scoring. I think it can be a really confusing topic because most controllers arent really made for that. And also I feel like there is not real standard on how parameters are mapped.
Think about buying this. Use Eastwests old Hollywood Stuff, but fell in love w/ the sound of BBC core through Discover. Not sure if it will run. System Requirements say I need AMD Ryzen, but I have AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core, 3.50 GHz w/ 16GB Ram. Will this work? No problem w/ Discover or Abbey Road Wonderous Flutes.
Does the core edition allow you to select how you trigger a technique? I see in the manual it says you could switch between triggering an articulation with a key switch or, lets say, a midi channel. I know however that sometimes manuals are reused between versions. At any rate, this is such a wonderful library and I can't wait until I can finally get it!
Would this be a good choice for doing 60s-70s style Library Music if combined with other instruments (guitar, bass, drums, percussion) from elsewhere? I’m not sure what a could orchestral library would be for this. I’m also looking at BHCT.
Yes you can use it for 60s-70s style orchestration. I use the Discover version in many of my 50s and 60s song covers. If you add tape saturation and vintage style effects it will sound like a 50s or 60s orchestra.
I'm still torn between this or Albion One.. I know Christian mentioned in another video that Albion One is a go-to for him because he comes from the world of production/EDM and that is also where I am coming from. I'm just looking to make a purchase to get started on orchestral programming and would like to have the freedom of individual instruments that BBCSO offers over Albion One but also am not sure if that makes the learning curve that much harder for me?
I bought the core edition and love it, but........... Do you think there will ever be an option add either the close mics or “mix 2” hyped mix? I will never be able to justify the cost of an upgrade to the professional version personally, but I would pay a lesser cost just to add extra mic/mix options. Not all the mic options as I realise the size of what that would add, even just Jakes Mix 2. I think it would help make the core version more versatile and useable in more circumstances. The mix 1 sound is a bit underwhelming for some of the instruments when trying to go for something more intense/aggressive. Thanks 😊👍
The thing is, from my point of view, that Core it's too cheap for what it is. Even with only 1 mic. So when you upgrade to Pro you are paying for the quality that you already have. They are "loosing" money when you only buy Core hoping that you will love it and wanted more so you will pay the Pro. I hope that you understand what I say. I mean, I also have Core and I would love more mics, but things are as they are.
I bought Core bec of this video and I'm extremely satisfied! Would it be possible to have a copy of this Logic File, to better learn the articulation and expression moves you did?
I would buy CORE right now if there is an upgrade path to move to PRO in the future, there doesn't seem to be an upgrade price from Core to Pro on the website?
From the Spitfire website: "There is an upgrade path between BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover, Core and Professional. The price you pay to upgrade from one edition to another is simply the price difference between the two products at the point of purchase. Owners of any edition can view their price by ensuring they are logged in to our website then clicking ‘Add to Cart’ on the edition they wish to upgrade to."

Thanks
Just add more RAM, and forget problem about unloading! I think 32 gigs of RAM is quite enough!
Avidly watching, I hope the answer is yes, because I already bought it, and have had to order a new computer to run it :-)
Hi, Could you please do a video showing how to do articulation sets with BBCSO Core, because so far I have not been successful and getting stressed over it !!
Thanks!
Still can't get my head round discover being 200 mb
It becomes evident when you try it. One sample stretched over up to five semitones. No round robins, limited articulations etc.
It’s one sample stretched? I thought it was just one sample per note - no round robins.
@@TheSnowLeopard Honestly both Discover & Core are still very impressive, especially when you look at EW's libraries being 60GB+ a pop WITHOUT mic positions :0
You mentioned Core has solo instruments in the wood winds. Does it also have solo instruments in the brass section as well? Thank you!
Okay -- you've convinced me even though this doesn't have UACC (still hate keyswitches for articulations but if I have to buy another keyboard just to do it I will). Bought and downloading.
Which keyboard you think is the best option for? Thanks
Is just imopsible not to buy the upgrade..... this happened to a friend by the way
Will there be any Studio one templates?
At any rate, this is such a wonderful library and I can't wait until I can finally get it!
does anyone know what midi knob (the silver square thing) he's using to control the dynamics of the performance in real time? I want it.
Do the sounds of BBC SO Core go well with those of Albion One?
Would this be a good choice for doing 60s-70s style Library Music if combined with other instruments (guitar, bass, drums, percussion) from elsewhere? I’m not sure what a could orchestral library would be for this. I’m also looking at BHCT.
Yes you can use it for 60s-70s style orchestration. I use the Discover version in many of my 50s and 60s
song covers.
I just bought PRO. Really looking forward to sinking my teeth into it.
How is PRO going? I just pulled the trigger on Core.
I bought Core bec of this video and I'm extremely satisfied! Would it be possible to have a copy of this Logic File, to better learn the articulation and expression moves you did?
You could upgrade your laptop with a bigger drive. Some laptop mobos already have multiple M.2 connectors.
I would buy CORE right now if there is an upgrade path to move to PRO in the future,
there doesn't seem to be an upgrade price from Core to Pro on the website?
If you want to buy Professional, you just have to pay the difference between these two.
@@3DGEMAN1000 Hi thanks Caleb, I just found it myself, they put it on the 'Compare' page rather than the individual product pages
@@watchtheskies No worries, took me a good few minutes to find it the other day when I had the same question. It's a little hidden.
What happens if you choose a niche articulation in pro such as Sul Pont Tremolo and go back to discover
it's emulated, but if you make project in discover switch to core new avaliable articulations do not show.
Is there any optoon of individual instruments in core version ? What instruments are added in pro ?
The reason that i would not buy the pro version is not the money but the weight of the library more than 600GB its a lot.
Can you play audio samples from external hard drive ?
