That's just the narrative used to try and get English people to stop celebrating England, and is not really what It's about. St. George’s Day is a moment for Britain to revel in its heritage and he remains a symbol of hope, bravery, and heroism deeply ingrained in our great nation, if you don't like celebrating the idea of England, you could always go somewhere else.
No need. St Patrick was British-born, so this celebration represents Britishness even more widely than St George, who came from Asia Minor, which was never even part of the Commonwealth. Mind you, I suppose that St George therefore represents even greater inclusivity than St Patrick. Yay for both.
