- I have seen this album cover all over the place, but can the album art match to the actual album? There's only one way to find out!
Thank you for watching and supporting throughout!
Dude, I never get tired of watching people discover this album. You only ever get to hear this for the first time once in your life. We've all been there! Enjoy the trip!
Thank you for joining on the trip. Definitely will listen to more
@@rjisasavage I don’t know if you went back and read lyrics, but the lyrics on this album are some of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard. The deepness of what they talk about and how they say it could truly be up there with the great poets in history and they just happen to be in one of the best albums in history as well. This album in my opinion is one of humanities greatest accompaniments in art, there might be albums out there that you like more, but there are no albums that are this perfect in every way, if this album came out right now for the first time it would blow everything and everyone who heard it away and it’s 50+ years old. Super happy you got to enjoy it. You never get your first time hearing dark side back so it’s awesome you have it on video, I would pay mass amounts of money to be able to experience dark side of the moon again for the first time. It’s frustrating that I can’t to be honest….. haha
Well put!!!
@@rjisasavage congratulations, andre, now, you may consider yourself … _experienced._
People forget that Alan Parsons produced this masterpiece. He had alot of input as to the mixing and flow of these songs. He's a genius
Glad you mentioned that; My wife and I were talking about this just a day or two ago. Story goes that when PF approached him to produce this, they had little money left to pay for his "magic touch", which was expensive even then; So they came to an agreement: One percent of the gross sales for DSOTM--in perpetuity. She says it's $400 million and counting. Not too shabby for a single project--I think you could say he's set!
He also worked on the Beatles album Abbey Road & produced his own music as The Alan Parsons Project
Pink Floyd produced the album. Alan Parsons was the sound engineer.
Imagine how we felt in 1973 when this came out! I mean this was done in the analog era when there were no computers to help with mixing an album. David Gilmour the lead guitarist & main singer for Floyd said that a recording session with them was like putting on a concert! This album honestly sounds like it could have come out yesterday let alone 50 years ago! One last thing you should watch the video "Echoes" from "Pink Floyd live in Pompeii 1972" to see what they looked like when they were your age. They play a whole concert in an empty ancient Roman Amphitheater. That ought to give you some idea of the atmosphere for that concert. Again just do the song "Echoes" from that particular concert footage!!
There's a reason this is widely considered the best album of all time. People who say they don't like Pink Floyd either haven't really listened, or are super uncomfortable with feeling their own emotions, in my opinion.
In the days since the songs just keep burning into my brain and I just can’t stop. It’s so good
@@rjisasavage 14 *_years_* - 736 _consecutive_ weeks, 937 total on the billboard 200 chart
@@rjisasavage I don’t want to be the “wrong generation dork” but for some reason the old stuff from the late 60s- early 70s hit different. All genres: rock, funk, progressive rock, even pop.
Like nothing feels the same anymore, I genuinely don’t know why but everything from Stevie Wonder to King Crimson just hits different for me. Pink Floyd in particular is literally all I listen to anymore. No one is even close for me, it actually ruined my casual music experiences. Anyways, good video
I don’t trust people who don’t like the Beatles and don’t like Pink Floyd or one or the other.
I move away from them.
@God dude, pink floyd also ruined my casual music experience. Well said. However, I really only have gotten into dark side and wish you were here, the only songs I like off the wall are part 2 and comfortably numb. As for the rest of pink floyd's discography, seems like the rest of it will never hold a candle dark side and wish you were here, echoes is great, but I hate the wall, animals, and of their other albums. They just can't compare.
Now you know how we felt in 1973 as teenagers when we first heard this masterpiece on vinyl.
Transported!
Love the way you say "this doesn't sound like 1973". As someone who was listening to this in 1973 - this sounds EXACTLY like 1973 !!! 😀Maybe not what you expected, looking back from 2022 and who weren't born then - but the music back then was unbelievable !
A sonic treatise on the human condition- life & death, morality, madness, money and war & peace. Everyone should listen to this album as therapy.
It’s just so good
It's not exactly hopeful, DON'T show it to people with depresion. It might work for some, but not for most. Almost anything by The Beatles is actually good as therapy for example.
"wish you were here" is my favorite album by pink floyd, would recommend
I’ll check it out!
Wish You Were Here is my favorite as well, but I don’t think it’s nearly as digestible as other albums. It’s very personal and lyrics-driven, requiring the listener to invest emotionally into the storyteller.
Actually, I could say the same for The Final Cut.
Let me tell you,... Great reaction.
I am 52 years old. My brother took me to The Wall concert when I was 10 and i have been a hard core Pink Floyd fan ever since. 42 years later I still listen to them every day. It's my "therapy".
Over the last year I have been watching younger people like you discover them. Sometimes, it can saddens me because it seems a lot of your generation either can't comprehend what they are hearing or lack the attention span to make it through a song.
Seeing you react has revived my faith in the future. Spread the word to your friends. Anyone you think has a chance of appreciating it.
As a fan who is very familiar with their entire catalog, I would like to suggest complete albums. That is how they were created. As an album. Not a collection of songs. Wish You Were Here album. Animals album. The Wall. All very beautiful pieces to explore.
Thank you for honestly leaving me speechless and making my day. Thanks for going on this journey with me and sharing yours.
This is usually my all time favorite album. It alternates with the Beatles' Abbey Road. My second favorite Floyd album is Wish You Were Here. A very different album from Dark Side, though.
I’m excited to check it out! Thank you for watching!
We seem to have very similar musical tastes, lol. :) Wish You Were Here is my 2nd favourite Floyd album, after DSotM. I even agree with your 2 picks for favourite album, though I'd add Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album, to Abbey Road and DSotM. I'd also have to include a Zeppelin album, though I can never decide between II, IV and Physical Graffiti, as to my favourite album by them. :)
It's been nearly fifty (!) years since this came out; And yet, every time I put on this record it's as though I'm hearing it for the first time--again. Every song, every lyric, every voice, every instrument and sound effect is seared into my consciousness; It was breathtaking then, and still is now--almost other-worldly. It was fun watching your reactions while hearing this for the first time, Andre, because your responses were pretty damned close to what mine were way back then, when I was twenty-two or three. I'll admit I teared up at the same time as when you pointed out that you had! How truly great that music was (still is!) that it could move people of different generations, cultures, colors. Just goes to show that good music is timeless and universal. Made me wonder how they could possibly follow this up--and yet they did with what I consider equally good music, especially one "Wish You Were Here" (or "Animals", or "The Wall"...) So glad you did this, and to be able to share your experience--peace & tranquility, and keep up the good work--I'm a subscriber now.
Those backing vocals slay me every time, too, man. And they have done so for damn near 50 years. I love singing along with them to this date. I may be a bit off-key, but hell, what is life without a song in your heart?
Thank you Andre. Watching you listening to this music made my heart burst with joy. It is ART!
First time checking out your channel. Dude - this was awesome. Love your passion and joy while listening to this. Thanks
If you liked this you should check out Ok Computer by Radiohead. That band is most known for Creep off their first album, but this album is seroiusly next level. It still sounds timeless 25 years after its release, and is even sometimes regarded as the Dark Side of the Moon of the 90s. Great reaction btw.
Thank you!!! And I listened to Ok Computer last year sometime and absolutely love it. Exit Music is legendary.
@@rjisasavageso real, also I love dark side of the moon so much Radiohead and Pink Floyd are my two favorite bands ever.
Loving these reactions mate, it's like hearing these records for the first time all over again. Brought a tear to my eye. Have fun on your journey of discovery, plenty of gold out there! Maybe Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here next?
Man I’m so jealous of you! I wish I could hear this album for the first time all over again. Love seeing your reactions to this absolute flawless masterpiece! You can only experience Pink Floyd once and you never forget it
This album is still on the top 200 album charts sitting at 198
I am 57 and this never gets old! Really enjoyed watching how much you enjoyed it!!! The best album ever made!
Rock on man!
First few minutes I knew you were for real and have a descent enough understanding to make me wanna see more of your reactions.
Greetz from the Zandvoort, The Netherlands (subbed)
I've just found your channel. DSOTM is a great experience. Joyful...!!!! I love to hear this back to back with OK Computer
Such a great album and man, I'm about to do that now!
One of the most insightful and profound reactions I've seen on DSOTM
Thank you ❤️
More Pink Floyd must listens:
Wish You Were Here (1975) Their most beautiful album,
Animals (1977) Their hardest rockin' album &
The Wall (1979) So cinematic they made it into a movie.
ps. Love your energy! Your videos rock!
So...so you think you can tell...
Right from the jump, right to the gut. Every time. I'm almost fifty and it's as emotionally rousing to me now as it was when I was fifteen.
They're a good band.
The wall was made as a movie soundtrack
@@Heisenburger1066 Not exactly, but the album, live show and movie were all part of the original plan.
So great to see your reaction, its feels very genuine and on the button. Imagine growing up with that and then hearing all the chart 80s stuff.
David Gilmour is one of my favourite guitarists of all time.. Pink Floyd is one of the most important band for myself and probably for many other people. Love them and your reaction ❤
Thank you!
This is widely thought of as one of the greatest rock albums recorded, a true masterpiece. Its 50 in 2023, still going strong....Now you know why you've seen the prism everywhere!. BTW, it was actually taken from a school physics book.
I just gotta say, love your infectious energy and enthusiasm for discovering new music! Instant subscribe. Can’t wait to see more reactions; You’ve said that you’re a sucker for beautiful music which makes me think you would enjoy The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds album, another all-time greatest.
Thank you! ❤️. Pet sounds is I think what really took me down this road because I listened to it after Srgt Pepper and it’s my all time favorite rock album. It may be one of the best of all time. God Only Knows. Brian Wilson is a genius!
First time watching you - great album reaction
This is how Pink Floyd are meant to be experienced
Can’t wait for Wish You We’re Here, Animals, The Wall……
What’s really going to blow you away is watching them live (PULSE Concert), but best to hear the original album versions first
Looking forward to following your journey through classic artists 👍
Great great great reaction! Love to see when someone gets and appreciates Pink Floyd and all their layers right away. Make sure to listen to each album in one sitting/reaction. For some albums imperative you experience them that way, others it's just highly recommended. Most will say Wish You Were Here next which is the next album, but I feel you should go backwards a little bit and do Meddle from 1971, then Obscured By Clouds from 1972, then jump to Wish You Were Here from 1975 and progress forward with Animals from 1977, The Wall from 1979, The Final Cut from 1983, A Momentary Lapse Of Reason from 1987, 1994's Division Bell, their last album The Endless River, then double back to pre-1971 albums. It's also highly recommended you watch the Live At Pompeii concert from 1972 and 1995's PULSE which many people say is the best live concert ever recorded, both visually and musically. All that will blow your mind. As amazing as Dark Side is, there's no consensus as to what their best album is. Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall are chosen as the best pretty evenly. Looking forward to more. Incidently, Comfortably Numb from The Wall may be the best song ever recorded by anyone, with the live guitar solo from PULSE being the best live performance of all time by anyone.
Not only cinematic, but also (music)life changing. Keep on exploring PF. There is a lot to discover!
This was so impressive, I’m really excited to see where this journey goes
@@rjisasavage Try Wish you were here. The whole album in one take as all the songs are flowing in each other.
@@nardj.5277 Maybe do Meddle before WYWH,keeping in mind that it will get more epic approaching the later albums.
Yeah!! A LOT!!
Loved your reminder [fresh eyes and ears and heart] of how good this iconic album is. Thanks.
So fun watching someone get turned on to something so many have loved for so long.
Oh, your journey is just beginning. There is so much depth here it is unfathomable. Just take for example the line, "And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes" and how it relates to the line earlier in the song, "And if there is no room upon the hill." This latter line is a reference to the Beatles, The Fool On The Hill. Maybe start with their documentary about the making of the Dark Side Of The Moon. Keep listening and listen to it loud there is a lot that goes on in The Floyd's music.
now you should see them live, highlighting the guitar you loved in this. please do: "comfortably numb" live pulse 1994.
So glad you enjoyed it! I was lucky enough to get to see them in 1994.
You should give “Wish You Were Here” a try.
Next album to check out is " Animals " . They went all in!
Watching you discover this album was a lot of fun.
Thank you Lord Vador
Do you now see what we were trying to tell you😂
Loved your reaction.
Well done👍🔥
So glad you loved the album. It came out in 1973 and it's still relevant. You need to play it again for yourself with headphones, listen to the lyrics, and no talking. Next, I hope you listen to their album "Wish You Were Here", another masterpiece.
It’s been on repeat for the past 4 days since I filmed this!
@@rjisasavage Good to hear! Wait until you hear the first song on Wish You Were Here album "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." You'll love it.
One of my favorite pastimes is watching reaction videos to discover if the hosts ‘get it’ or not. You, my friend, get it!
You did it right! You listen to the whole album in the intended sequence on headphones! Good job 👍
You described this album as cinematic a lot. Well one of Pink Floyd's most famous albums, The Wall, actually *was* made into a movie!
I love The Wall more than the Dark side of the moon. Not at all saying i don't love this one too. Just The Wall is more personal to me and millions of others 😊
Is it even better?
It's personal taste but it's my favorite Floyd album along with Animals
@@rjisasavage While that's up to personal preference, it is the one to have a definitive plot. Without spoiling too much, it tells the story of a rock star named Pink, as he builds a mental wall to cut himself off from the outside world.
@@garretteulett8600 can’t wait to check it out!
That "swirling" sound is from a Leslie speaker. Its two speaker horns that spin around inside the cabinet. The guitarist, David Gilmour has said his greatest regret in life is never being able to hear this album for the first time. As for being "cinematic" - two of their albums were actually movie soundtracks. If you like this, you need to check out Comfortably Numb from Pulse.
Wow. Thank you for this!
BTW if you want to see the guys "back in the day" check out
Pink Floyd "Echoes" (Part 1) live at Pompeii 1972
No lights, No Audience, No Pyrotechnics and a Dave Gilmour with No Shirt! 😂
A little song, played in an ancient Roman Amphitheatre about all life on earth, how we are all related and should be better human beings, opening windows not building walls
Watch Part 2 too!
It was a joy watching you become "Floyded"! 😄
If I might be so bold to suggest, in 1994 Pink Floyd went on what I believe was their final tour, the Division Bell tour. Pink Floyd was always known for their spectacular live shows, and on this last hurrah, they blew out all the stops. It was recorded and released on DVD (and CD) as the Pulse concert, and while any song from that show is worth watching ~it really was a fantastic show~ they brought down the house with "Comfortably Numb". It is ~arguably~ one of the best concert performances ever recorded. Guitarist David Gilmour has two solos, and the second one is just....epic.
FYI, most Floyd albums were designed as basically one 'work' per album side. Each song flowed into the next, with one break to flip the album. So on most Floyd albums, you can let one song play right into the next ~ if you're so inclined. Also, Pink Floyd has never been about personal fame ~ they believe it's the music that's important, not them. So if you do react to this live performance, take note of how many times the band members are lit from the sides, or the back, rather than from the front.
Unfortunately by the time they initiated that tour, it had been five years or so since the somewhat mercurial Roger Waters had parted company with his band mates over personal differences, and he was responsible for writing the great majority of PF's music (post-departure of Syd Barrett, that is); So it was almost as though the Beatles were to carry on after the loss of John Lennon (and realistically, without most of Paul's considerable contributions as well). Would their music have been great, if the remaining three had decided to continue? Sure, but...
@@h.gordonkemnitz7736 I agree that the loss of Waters' songwriting skills was a blow the band never really recovered from. But then again, how many times can you mine the same dark veins?
Also, I'm not sure Waters the stage performer was missed nearly as much. Guy Pratt seemed to do an excellent job filling in.
Try Pink Floyd “Wish You We’re Here” which is another concept album by them and it was released right after DSOTM. It’s a little bit more rockin but retains a symphony of different sounds/melodies
Excited!
So sad that young crew today haven’t heard amazing music like this which I grew up with…well done mate for catching up with ’the real stuff’
Cheers Stephano
The swell of music at the end from Brain Damage to Eclipse makes me fucking cry, I get full body chills every single time.
Best.Fucking.Reaction.Ever.
Welcome aboard The Starship Floyd.
I first heard this, through headphones, aged 13. Blew my brain out. Still does.
The absolute premium time I heard this was with a group of friends, many years ago, and we'd all had mushroom tea. Yes. Those kind. This album had us all flying around the room, metaphorically. It was VERY strong tea but organic. We were all deliriously, wonderfully, joyously happy at the same time. Only Floyd can do this. "Any colour you like"? Oh yes, we saw them all and some we had never seen before. AWESOME reaction Andre. Subbed.
EDIT I am in no way promoting, advocating or suggesting, others should take any illegal substances of any kind and particularly not under the age of 21.
Peace, love and music. x
I had a similar experience. My friends and I were out camping in Wisconsin, we took some mushrooms and sat in our kayaks watching the stars listening to this masterpiece
@@danielgantner7468 Shrooms were made by God just to listen to Floyd.
1980 age 15 my older cousin brought me to my first concert ever Pink Floyd The Wall It shaped my life direction. I would react to Wish You Were Here, the follow up to Darkside next.. no big deal when you're Pink Floyd, aloha from Hawaii
I’m glad you enjoyed it man 🙂 maybe next time don’t pause the transitions cuz they r absolutely fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
Unfortunately have to cut up due to copyright, but I have the videos uncut on my Patreon.
Nice video dude!
That was fun!
Thanks!
When you keep listening to pink floyd don't bother stoping between tracks. The songs transition into each other perfectly. Subscribed!

Yes, new listeners finding and enjoying Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of The Moon 50 years after its first release. And, there will be others discovering it in 100 years after its first release. Good music truly is timeless. I was 23 years old when I first heard it in 1973.
Oh Duuuude!! Enjoy your Floyd journey!!
Thank you!
Buckle up, they do make a movie!
I enjoy listening to music with you (even when I’ve heard it a thousand times)!
I'm 60, and after listening to DSOM over, and over, after hearing Their earlier music, "Echoes", then with Wish You Were Here, and Animals, the world, and I, were collectively stunned at the
consecutive Masterpieces, then my older brother and I went and got The Wall, and I can remember it so well, as I listened, and looked at the album thinking, there is no way
that they have created cartoon characters of main characters, and not have a Movie in the works. They did not disappoint, They never do. Consummate Artists/Musicians,
surely Richard Wright RIP was friends with John Paul Jones, both were/are, Masters of Arrangement, and Orchestration. So much PF Goodness yet to come. Enjoy.
I'm so ecited to go on this journey! Thank you for being a part of this! This album was just so good and I can't get it out of my head
LOVE your vids... As to making money, "Moon" has been on the Charts for something like 950 STRAIGHT WEEKS.
See if you can find the "Live in Pompei" video somwhere, that is an incredible and utterly unique performance
I mean pretty much everything about that album is, but the last line, in context, is pure perfection
I saw them perform this entire album live in the 70's. They had a movie playing on a round screen behind the band with a lightshow. There was a model of an airplane hanging in the back of the stadium (8-10ft long) which was on a zipline to the stage. It was released on the last song and headed straight into the giant round screen. Mindblowing concert!🌈
I could only imagine!
Listening to you talk about the cinematic aspect of this album makes me think you’d appreciate The Wall. It’s literally a movie being told by music, you should give it a listen!
We used to put our speakers on the floor and lie between them (this was long before good head-phones were available)
.
Dude I stereotypically first listened to this album during my first ever mushroom trip and it was the most intense, white knuckle, beautiful experience I think I've ever had.
I can imagine!
Believe it or not this is a little White Chick ,, first take she nails it , great gig in the sky
If you want a Pink Floyd song with a movie to go along with it, you should do The Wall. Make sure to have the lyrics pulled up for the best time :)
@23:12 I did what you suggested here so many times in my youth. Laying on the floor with the speakers beside my ears (had no headphones), having just smoked a doob (yes, thats what we called it then), and just letting the music take me. Good times!
Man, must have been great!
Dude! Love your album reviews. I HIGHLY recommend trying Billy Joel next! Most people only really know of Piano Man in terms of his music, but holy cow his albums are fucking awesome. No one really does reviews on them sadly. There are so many great songs that deserve waaaaay more recognition.

Watch Pink Floyd Live In Pompeii. They show them in the studio making this album.
Recorded at EMI (Abby road) studios. Alan Parsons was the producer
Alot of people will say Wish you were here next but also make sure you look at Animals. It's my fav floyd album and the instrumentals and story it tells are crazy
'Cinematic' - that never occurred to me, but with the headphones on, you close your eyes and see an incredible movie...
You're right, it is 10/10. One of the Greatest pieces of art from the 20th century.
Couldn't agree more!
And the adventure begins
I made this album into one long MP3.
I shut off my phone and listen to ALL of it start to finish or not at all.
You mentioned several times how cinematic this album seems. Well, someone came up with the idea of playing it along to The Wizard of Oz, hitting play the last time the lion in the MGM logo at the beginning roars. It syncs up pretty well, too
Do you think it was purposely done
@@rjisasavage even the themes and some of the lyrics math the movie so it almost has to be done on purpose
This album is meant to be listened to without breaks as that is how it was written with one song blending into the next.
It's a real favourite album with stoners which is the way to get off on it. Stunning album in the last 50 years.
x Linda
This album always makes me despair of my own mixes. Absolute sonic masterpiece. 🙃
There is nothing like getting high and listening to this on vinyl. A whole experience I do at least once a year lol
It was so popular in the England of my youth, in 1973 and 74 when I was 15 and 16. I had forgotten how good it was.
It's an amazing album. Now, can they pull off the final track ? Hell Yes.
Andre, I've just been listening to Shine on you Crazy Diamond, a wonderful tribute to their original leader who blew his brains out far too young on LSD. It's the absolute pillar of Wish You Were Here but the rest is also top notch, I seriously suggest you try that magnificent album next,.
I am 48 , I first was introduced to Datkside of the moon at age 14. I am a huge Floyd fan , fav track is Time.
CRAZY
You’re gonna have fun on this journey. Enjoy, bubba.
Thank you!
I love your reaction Andre!!! Keep it going. I recommend you listen to "Eldorado" by the ELO, and the White Album by The Beatles. I'll be looking forward to more reactions!!
I can’t wait!
Great job. Do Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” Queen’s “A Night at the Opera” and Radiohead’s “The Bends.”
I do love your enthusiasm though.
YEAH :D!! My favs Beatles albums are revolver/rubber soul, thankss.
Great reaction btw :)!
Thank you!
Thank you for watching! I’m really excited!
You really need to listen to this album from start to finish. That's how it is intended to be heard not jumping around. You'll see that 1 song leads into the next to the next to the next. You really need to do this album completely from start to really appreciate. What a great work of art this is this is 50 years old.
I have ever since and I only have it cut up due to copyright
Yes lyrics are a must.
Yeah, being a bit, "you know"...certainly doesn't hurt when it comes to Pink Floyd! Incredible that these sounds are almost 50 years old.
Can confirm after editing.
@@rjisasavage Ha!
I was high af when I first heard this record, for me it’s still the best way to listen to it
You should check out the Air- “Moon Safari”. Air is a French duo and Moon Safari is phenomenal 👍
I'm 3 months late to this party… but I'm surprised that I didn't see anyone provide the important context that this album was the band's reaction in the aftermath of their former front-man, Syd Barrett, going completely and certifiably insane. Which would have a profound impact on anyone. It made them deeply philosophical about life… and what is and isn't considered sane in a world filled to the brim with irrationality. And a very finite life that catches up with us before we realize how quickly it's passing.
I can only hope you took the opportunity to listen to the entire album as one continuous piece, as it was meant to be heard.
I have since!
I'm in the chorus of those wishing for less interruptions in the songs, but I hear what all y'all reactors say: UA-cam & "music" biz beancounters. Curse them! Glad to see you back in the 'phones with such a classic. You could set yourself apart from other reactors by studying up for 10 minutes or less on a band/an album you're gonna react to; at least get the names of the musicians and what they play.
Very fair! I’ll start doing that! I try not to do it can really be my own truly first reaction, knowing nothing! But this could help tremendously. Thank you!
@@rjisasavage I don't think knowing some bg written info is going to change or corrupt true reaction to a first listen. And, growing up in Berkeley in the 60's, how the musicians and music evolved was a community project. As I hit the road, I used to travel 'blind' to a new place, but found after the fact that I had missed some unique experiences through my ignorance, and history that would have given me a much greater appreciation of those I did have. I appreciate you on your journey here, Andre. Have fun!
Welcome to the machine!! You are a Floydian!!
PF brought the synthesizer to the stage and changed the course of music history, but especially rock.
