Loved watching a professional, like yourself, do this work. Brilliant logical thorough explanation. That’s a beautiful Motomag survivor. I have a Dec 1980.
I think;the contra-break is the best! My hungarian Csepel BMX was a back tire contra-breaker bicycle in 1989 in Hungary.(I was only 10 years old) Good lifepower for you theese wonderfool cycles engineering and restorating!!! 🔥 You are a happy, lifefully people !!! ❤️☀️
Thanks so much for posting this video. I have a rear Motomag II that needs to be serviced. I also need to strip two layers of paint from it. Please give me any suggestions on what chemical I should use to strip the paint. I believe the paints are enamel. Thanks again.
i just pulled my mongoose out of my parents storage shed and wanted to bring it back to life. I had to ship it across the country. I noticed that the shiny plating on the motomags looks like it came off. Do you know if it was painted or plated? And what kind of plating it had on it. zinc or nickel? Do you think its worth re-plating to bring back the shiny surface or not?
I have experienced the same thing before. The hub just needs to be overhauled. The grease gets old and doesn't allow the internals to work properly. Goodluck👍
Hey My name is Andy, I am trying to convert a front Rovan Industries. Morris Mag to a rear wheel. I have a bendix 76 just like your motomag. The only problem is the bore of the front wheel is much smaller than rear would be. The bore in the front wheel I have is 29mm or 1.125". I need to know the size of the bore and bearing races on both sides so I can have my wheel machined. On my 28 spoke "bendix 76" donor hub the bearings are different sizes from left to right. Also do they sell these steel bearing races to insert in the aluminum Morris Mag wheel ? I assume they will be the same ones I see in the Motomag in your video. You look like an expert that can help me. B.T.W. I have two front morris mags wheels and want to make one into a rear. I know the front and the rear wheels have the same U.S. Pat No. D232717 on them for a 100% fact. The rear wheel is just machined different from the front, So I can convert it with a machine shop and 2 steel bearing race inserts. Can you help me figure this out ?
Hi Jason. Just bougth a couple of wheels like these. however on of them desn't have brake sistem. Do You know where i can Buy it or if You can seel it to me.. I AM fron Monterrey México. Thanks
The ones with out the brake system are more valuable. They are called freewheels and are highly sought after. If your missing the internals that is a different thing and no I do not have any. Thanks, Jason
They had kits back in the day that would convert coaster to a freewheel type. Some would have washers and a spring to make it freewheel. Others would put a threaded piece on the end were you could put an actual freewheel on. It is very hard to find those parts today. You can try to make your own kit today using washers and a spring but it may not work that well. Goodluck👍

Those rim's would look awesome with a good polishing.

I use Klean Strip Aircraft paint stripper. But after you use it you need to rinse immediately and polish. If you don't it may start to oxide. Thanks!
should powdercoat those wheels:) Great vid!
Thank you. The nearest powdercoater was an hour away at the time. Now there is one 15 minutes away.

Working on one now from a Schwinn typhoon, it was free-spinning and not engaging the clutch or brakes.

Any way to make those a freewheel instead of coaster brake bs ? Slightly modifications to the parts that are already there without buying anything ?
