  • UA-camrs Carl and Alex, bait expert John Baker and Monster Carp co-host and Korda’s Tom Dove all joined Simon Pitt on this episode of The Thinking tackle Podcast. Due to the lockdown regulations, the podcast is continuing its series of Lockdown Listens with guests from the world of carp fishing.
    Simon caught up with Carl & Alex to discuss the effect the pandemic has had on their highly successful UA-cam channel. They also discussed the intervention that they needed to take to save a local park lake from a serious oxygen crash in one of their latest videos.
    John Baker has been testing and selling bait Ingredients for over forty years and has built a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and informative individuals in his field. He discussed the consequences of the Brexit deal and the impact this will have on U.K anglers and bait manufacturers. Furthermore, he also delved into the science behind making an effective bait and what exactly you should and shouldn’t be using!
    Lastly, Monster Carp and Korda’s very own Tom Dove, also joined us on the show to talk about what’s been going on in his life since he last came on the podcast. He spoke about a record-breaking session where he caught over 70 carp, and he also revealed some big news regarding his personal life.

    John Baker is an absolute diamond of a guy, although I’ve never met him, a mutual friend of ours has always spoke highly of him and said what a gentleman he is.
    What I do know, is what John don’t know about bait is no mans business. And he is one of the most humbling people you see in the fishing world these days.

    I was listening to Carl talking about the council owned lake which was left to end up in a terrible situation and I feel this must be a regular thing around the UK?
    My local Country park has a fishing lake that is owned by the local council which used to be a great fishing lake with plenty of fish in it and a decent variety of species too! With Government funding cuts happening more and more over the past so many years this lake has been left to pretty much empty so much to a point where the path which used to run along the edge of the fishing lake and in some parts you could step off the path into the lake is now around 20-30 feet away now, perhaps even more!
    The lake is thick with weed to a point where looking at it from a far you would think it was a grassy field, Especially in the Summer months. I'd imagine the oxygen levels are very low and this will obviously be terrible for fish welfare, Myself and a number of local anglers have reported this to the Environmental Agency a number of times in hope that they had some sort of authority to get the local council to tidy it up but nothing has been done at all? I have seen big Carp cruising around on the surface in the Summer months but to be totally honest I have not fished it for a number of years now, mostly due to how thick the weed is (it's way too thick to do manually by a person in my opinion?)
    It's a real shame because I fished this lake a lot in my younger years and then when I got older I also took my Daughter there when she was small too and learned her how to fish so this place is close to my heart. It's just a shame that the younger generations could miss out on a brilliant fishing lake that is going to waste due to local councils being too greedy to pay money to maintain these places. Also the fact that the Government tries to promote angling to youngsters which I think is a great idea, We would assume that they would find this... but unfortunately not 😔

    Carl & Alex care so much they save the place but also ruin it by publicly naming it on BT Sports so it has turned into a free for all now, those fish need to be moved to the big res or the local club waters!!! Fishing won't be coming back there, they've been trying to stop it for years blaming anglers for killing birds when it was the gypsy kids with catapults!

    • @fishwithcarl
      @fishwithcarl 3 роки тому +2

      Hey man thanks for the concern however we didn't publicly name it on BT Sport, that had nothing to do with us and we chose to not name the place in our video or when asked where it is. We have always kept waters locations secret when asked to by the local anglers. Negotiations with the council have not yet finished and the transfer to the Wildlife Trust has currently been stopped. Cheers. :)

      @@fishwithcarl Fair enough lads, i'll blame Rob for that one then 👍🏼 take a walk around there if you've ve not been up there recently, fishing won't be happening there again "officially" and I think you know it too, it will be poached out for the big pay places not so far away or left for the next air crash to finish them off, I think they need a helping hand before it is too late, big res makes sense

      @@tomwinterfishing9065 loam or sometimes peat has been used for years in carp baits. Usually just for the colour/darkening of baits. Often called ‘black magic’. You can even scrape the top of mole hills off and use that, but as you said, it’s cheap, and therefore makes the expensive bait argument void.
