I think there needs to be videos about how dealers would rather go out of business then reduce prices. Because that is what is happening. How does a dealership close without a fire sale of everything on the lot. If this was a normal market, that is what would happen, but its not. The simply close the dealership and repo the cars back. How is this not clearly a manipulated market. They are purposely cutting production and then hiding over supply to price fix the market. This should be eliminated if there was fair competition in the market but there is not.
Because a lot of these dealers aren't even using their own money because they're using floor plans. So they're just playing with other people's money and they know that in the end they'll just lose the inventory and they get to walk away.
The "fire sale" happens when the bank repos the cars from the dealership and put them up for auction. Unfortunately for you, other dealerships buy those cars and don't reduce the prices.
Not 100% the dealer's fault. Back when the DEALERS jacked up the prices, the manufacturers got jealous of them making all the profits. Companies JACKED up the prices the dealer's paid from the factory. Prices collapsed, and the dealer's don't have any wiggle room to drop prices. Note that all the discounts are from the FACTORY.

I bought my mom a New Kia Rio with a 5 speed manual transmission back in I think 2009. The dealership had a lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission so long as she changed the oil every 3000 miles and kept the receipts to prove it (not difficult since she just took it to the dealership for the oil changes). She put over 200K miles on it and the only major repair she had on it was one of the coil packs went bad and as I recall she had both coil packs replaced (I drove it 50 miles to the dealership at 45 miles an hour which is as fast as it would go with half the cylinders not firing correctly). She finally stopped driving it a few years later because a deer jumped out in front of her and did enough damage to the front of the car that insurance wanted to junk it. She sold it to a family friend who replaced the body panels and the damaged radiator and gave it to his mother in law who drove it for another couple years after that. Overall not a bad experience. No body rust and she lives in northeastern ohio.
No it won't. There is no inventory of affordable models. The manufacturers only want to sell to the top percentage of wage earners. The demand for fewer reasonable models will keep those prices high forever. Let BYD compete. No tarrifs.
Brandon, I had a '98 Kia Spectra with 258k miles on it with no mechanical failures or issues. Two problems I know first hand that's hidden with a heated engine: 1. Power steering pump, it'll squeal if it's going out or the fluid desperately needs changed, but it will stop squeaking once the engine heats up. 2. Cracked exhaust manifold, you will hear a tapping sound which is the gas escaping through the crack until the manifold heats up and expands, closing the crack just enough to stop the tapping. Both items, especially exhaust manifold can be quite expensive. I paid $1,100 for my car in 2015 in the exhaust manifold was $300, and I installed it myself. My power steering pump, I cleaned the hell out of it and thankfully it was saved.
