I really like Age of Ultron. It's not an origin story, it's not the end. It's just the Avengers being the Avengers and we really only got one of those.

They might not have realised what had happened until maybe later that night or the next day if he had just took off there and then.

I like how Age of Ultron acted as a character study for all the members of the avengers. Previously, I found that a lot of superhero movies before the Spider-Man trilogy had their hero’s reach their self actualization after their initial/origin film. And I appreciate how marvel shows the consequences of the characters choice to be a hero and their experiences in their initial film. I find that DC has a nasty habit of having their hero’s overcome their biggest challenges in their first film which leaves very little storytelling potential for future movies.
I like how flawed the marvel characters are. Their turmoil and emotional journeys throughout the rest of the movies is very well handled and builds conflict without sacrificing the true nature of the character. I especially enjoy how becoming a hero didn’t make Tony or Steve unwavering, morally perfect people. They are still fundamentally who they have always been but their experiences as hero’s takes a toll on their ideals as well as their emotional well being. I like that these characters don’t grow in a straight upward direction.

Thank you for saying this because I always thought the same thing but didn't realise that that was what I thought EXACTLY, nor did I know how to begin to express that thought. I too believe that this was a great movie for that reason and don't understand why it gets so much ..hate? no that's too strong a word ...strong dislike? , but never knew how to explain why it is in fact a great move so thank you for taking the time to explain what us AOU fans have been thinking for years.
Ps. this was actually when I first heard of Marvel movies outside of the Raimi Spiderman and 2000's XMen movies , when trailers for this movie (AOU) were airing.

Iron man never did. He became a transhuman cryptofascist with PTSD that only managed a semblance of normal life in the wake of the apocalypse that was his worst nightmare. Which I guess is an arc. He still made a personal murder satellite and gave it to a 15 year old kid.

    • @gracecaddick3279
      @gracecaddick3279 3 роки тому +9

@@Souledex I’m not condoning Tony’s actions. There are many times throughout the movies where I despise tony for his actions. I only meant that his character progression was realistic and made sense for who he is as a person. Tony is self-centred, a control freak, and a narcissist. I appreciated how his negative traits didn’t disappear once he became a hero. If anything his PTSD and fear of facing an unbeatable threat only exacerbated his negative traits. When tony was finally confronted with the inevitability of his own mortality he tried changing the world around him instead of realizing that the world is the same as it’s always been, he’s the one who’s changed. The world has always been in potential danger and always will be, but Tony can’t except that or live with the fear and anxiety it brings him. So his decision to have the avengers overseen by the government makes sense. I don’t agree with it, but I understand why Tony makes the decisions that he does. Which is how I know these are well written characters.

To me, Age Of Ultron was the bridge between the first Avengers, and the next Captain America movie..... the themes of right and wrong, of becoming the problem you seek to defeat, does power need regulation, are ones that come full circle in the next Cap movie.
This was a nice tight package of a story, but it's real purpose is just to tease those themes that becomes so important later in the MCU. In that aspect, I think this film was a HUGE success. Though, Quicksilver would have been able to get Clint and that kid out of the way without getting hit by any of the bullets.... at least in the comics.

Concerning Hawkeye... in the MCU, him and Natasha are two of my favorite characters. Not because they are the best characters in a comparison type of way, but because here you have Gods like Thor, Hulk, Vision, super powered humans like Captain America, Wanda, tech genius' like Tony Stark... and in the middle of it you have two regular humans, albeit at the 'top of their game' on the world stage, but still only human, who rely on their skill set to stand beside the others and fight world shattering threats.
To the others, every fight with beings like Ultron, is a challenge with moderate risk... it's not like Ultron was ever going to kill Hulk, or Thor... but Hawkeye and Natasha, fights at this level are very potentially lethal for them, and they still hold their own - which to me is deserving of the most respect in these films.

The difference between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers is the difference between Intelligence and Wisdom. A person can be the smartest person in the world but that doesn't stop them from making poor, rash decisions. Tony does not listen to others because he thinks he's smarter than them. Wisdom allows you to see past one's own ego to see the consequences of your actions and those of others. You see the morality of situations to figure out what you should do (wisdom) as opposed to what you can do (intelligence).

I really like this movie, but theres one scene that honestly makes me more pissed off every time I watch it. When Bruce doesn't think they can have a future together because he could turn into a uncontrollable rage monster at any time, Natasha tells him she's a monster too because she was sterilized, against her will. Not that she's a monster because she's killed people, probably innocents, as a Russian assassin. No, not being unable to have kids is where she gets hung up on whether she's worthy of being a hero.

Frankly, this is my favorite Avengers movies. It has more interesting ideas than most of the others...like you said, it gets more philosophical than the first one. Personally, I love that Tony goes back with the intent of creating Vision over everyone's objections, because that's what science does. We didn't shut down the space program after the tragedy of Apollo 10, or the Challenger disaster. We learn from it and keep going and improve lives. I love that Ultron acts like Tony and seems not to notice it himself, though the people around him pick up on it. It's a solid film.

In case you are confused Tony blowing up his Iron Man suits was his way of moving on from his ptsd obssession, every night he lost sleep and made an armour. It was basically step 1 in retiring.
The Iron Legion is step 2 in having suit of armour protect the plant in case the Avengers need to retire. Tinkering with A.I. is his way to have something control those suits.
The reason he suited up again as Iron Man is because they needed to take care of the Hydra problem that resulted from Winter Soldier

i don't think it's lack of continuity. it makes sense for tony to keep making more and more suits to protect himself and the world due to ptsd from the events in the first avengers movie, and the third iron man movie hardly proved that idea wrong, considering he basically only survived and defeated his opponent because of his suits
