    Bobby was truly courageous to carry through a protest of this nature to the end. No matter what you think of the IRA you have to admit it took real balls to do what he and the other 9 men did.

    This is an excellent tribute! I was 8 yrs old when Bobby died. I grew up as an ulster loyalist and didn't care less about his death. I left belfast over 20 yrs ago and gradually started reading books of my own choice and having conversations with people who weren't biased. I realised that loyalists were misguided and cultureless. We've been defending a system that doesn't give a damn whether we live or die. Republicans, like Bobby Sands, have fought and died for real idealisms such as FREEDOM!

    As a former soldier having served a few tours of Ulster, the longest being a 2yr stay from 88-90, I decided to educate myself, during this period, as to the history of the country that I was helping to oppress. Fact is, that if you choose to open your eyes and see back before 1969, and the start of the "troubles", My government had for years forced its will upon what was Eire..we had no right to fill the Isle with Scottish plantations and decide from their on it was Britain..just my opinion.

    I am proud to say, I was born on the exact day that Bobby died, may 5th 1981, just a couple of hours after he passed.
    my mother was a wreck that day, heartbroken at the loss of a hero, but delighted at the birth of her first son.
    it's always led me to feel connected to Bobby, and coming from a nationalist Irish family, my birthday is doubly celebrated every year that passes.
    God bless all who died to free their people and their land.

    Why have Sinn Fein refused to allow Bobby Sands family any access or control to, or over, the Bobby Sands Trust, which takes all the royalties from Bobby Sands poetry, song and image and keep it in it's entirety for Sinn Fein, leaving Bobby Sands family with nothing but a memory. The man was a human, not a property --
    The Sands family has consistently called for the disbandment of the Bobby Sands Trust, which they regard as aligned to Sinn Féin. Ever since the 1998 Good Friday agreement members of the Sands family including his sister Bernadette have claimed Sinn Féin abandoned the principles their brother died for by accepting a political settlement within Northern Ireland - a state her brother tried to destroy while in the IRA.
    The Sands family said: “Our family once again reiterates that the Bobby Sands Trust does not act on behalf of Bobby, nor does it represent our family, in any shape or form. We again call upon the trust to disband and desist from using Bobby’s memory as a commercial enterprise.”

      Many of the hunger strikers died unnecessary.Sein fein and the I.R.A inside the blocks and outside knew the Brits wouldn't bend knee. Bike mc farlane and many others to this day still deny this. Brendan the dark Hughes went to his grave a broken man because he spoke the truth and was put into the wilderness by the Ra and the shiners.Gerry Adams was was the man responsible for keeping the hunger strike going. He knew this would be a political victory and a great recruitment agent for the Ra . Look at sein fein today,just another middle class party towing the line and obeying the government these ten men died to see removed.

    • @Apaganplace
      @Apaganplace 7 років тому

      I dont believe for a minute that men were allowed to die for nothing and most of the families 8 in all agree with that and have been public about it bar P Ohara and M Devine families both INLA men. As for the Dark drink was a big part to play with him in the end and i believe he really never got over calling an end to the first hunger strike and not dying himself . And yes i do know members of the Hunger Strikers and they do not believe Adams kept the strike going .

    I grew up in the south of England. As kids we would make jokes about his death. Teachers, parents, everyone found it acceptable and funny to mock him. It was only when I spent a while in Dublin and had calm conversations with his supporters with no malice for my ignorance on the subject that I realised the true story. As a conservative, Thatcher supporting Englishman, it’s hard to say that I have an admiration for his courage, patriotism and devotion. Maybe if we all sat down in a kitchen in Finglas with a bottle of Jameson’s the world would be a better place.

    How ignorant and full of frustrated hatred does a person have to be to deliberately come onto a video of an opposing side of a conflict just to leave hateful comments which add nothing to any discussions going on there? I notice it's more of a loyalist trend. Republicans don't tend to bother seeking out loyalist videos to spew their hatred on... I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Republicans always had a political agenda, where as loyalists were nothing more than sectarian murder squads who targeted civilians, soft targets, unlike the IRA, who targeted military personnel and structures, to disrupt the British war effort. The IRA always apologized when civilians got caught in the crossfire, whereas loyalists deliberately targeted civilians, soft targets as I said before. Loyalists just never had the same calibre of tactical and educated minds which were abundant in the Republican movement... Davey, Republican activist from Longford, Eire.
