As for wearing boxy and oversized clothing, that's most of my wardrobe. I think i need to learn to sew so i don't have to get rid of everything 😂
You wrote everything I wanted to write! lol I hate watching those videos where somebody is "teaching" us how to hide something - tummy, legs, bust, etc. - while wearing a size Medium! And yes, oversized and boxy clothing fill my wardrobe too! 😂
I find your videos very helpful. There’s so many stylists on UA-cam who give advice on how women with apple shapes should dress but it doesn’t work because they are all thin and just don’t get it.
Thanks for this video, Cathy. I took Kelly Snyder's "Adore Your Wardrobe" class a few years ago. A tip for the apple shape (which includes me) was to wear darker and more "quiet" clothing on top and lighter, more interesting clothing on the bottom to draw the eye away from the middle. For example, try wearing a navy top with white jeans instead of visa versa. Their mantra for the apple shape is to keep the interest up (v- or scoop-necked tops, pretty necklaces and/or earrings, etc.) and down (bright or colored bottoms, interesting shoes, etc.) I also love a third layer and a column of color!
You are right, Cathy, we really can't hide the belly area. I do like a side tuck sometimes. I avoid the front tuck, it just puts my belly front and center! ‘Minimize and distract’ from the midsection is the name of the game! Thanks, Cathy.

Beautiful video, Cathy. Thank you so much for the tip to "wear what feels good and gives you confidence. Being of a certain age, I still like to wear bright colours, I even habe hot pink tights ! My family doesn't approve and that is hard, but your video is encouraging. Love how down-to-earth you are and LOVE LOVE LOVE that airy light blue and white v-necked dress on you. It is ABSOLUTELY stunning!!! You look beautiful in it and hands down, it is my favourite piece in your wardrobe.
All great tips - agree with you totally about tucking tops in - doesn't always work! Shoulder pads are my go to - they really help. Amazon has some silicone pads that stay in place perfectly (not always the case) and really make a difference for those of use with sloping shoulders and short waists!

I got the BB cream from your last video and am loving it! I don't care to wear makeup as I sweat a lot and my skin is very red. This cream is perfect 🥰.
I have the apple belly plus a large bust. It's hard finding a top that doesn't make me look pregnant 😂 BTW, the two side by side pictures you showed of you in the high neck black sweater and the gorgeous blue v-neck dress: the black high neck really aged you. You look MUCH younger in the light blue! V-neck I am going to re-evaluate colors and necklines on me now. I didn't realize how much difference they make.

Hi Cathy. I am 4'11" at 235 lb. And 74 YO. A very short apple body. I've watched a few of your videos and want to thank you for them. However, there were a couple of points that I am challenging. In one video you talked about wearing nude sandals instead of colored ones to elongate the leg. Totally agree with that. But the sandals you were wearing did not have much support. An Apple body, by definition, is a heavy body and needs support in the foot area. The other point was on capri pants [we used to call them pedal pushers]. I agree they cut the leg off at a wide area, but the shorts you were wearing also cut the leg at the wide part of the thigh. I think a better design for shorts would be ending right above the knee - the smallest part of the thigh. The capris could easily be cut off for that length [at least they can be useful that way].

I agree about high collar tops bringing attention to your neck, but I think necklaces that are too short will do the same thing. I purchase chains 20 and 22 inches to put my pendants on, so my pendant won't lay inches from my neck. I think it looks better. Thanks for the videos and advice. Trying on bathing suits is not fun🫤 too bad about the hot pink suit because that color looked great on you. That pink with a tan!!!!🩱🤩

Now I am a shapewear queen and my favorite is Chantelle bodysuit. I do own a few fajas but some days you just don’t want to get strapped up and strapped in lol!! Wearing a bodysuit makes me feel secure and I live in the Deep South!!!
I’m not an apple body, but my stomach is an issue. However, I like horizontal stripes. I have a black and white striped top that looks slimming on me, but it’s the cut of the top that does it.
I've tried the shapewear too, but it's not comfortable and it doesn't help me since I need to go to the bathroom often (drinking lots of water hoping to help with the weight loss....) I'm starting to sew again to allow for more comfort...and a well fitting outfit helps you look slimmer no matter what. And I'm so glad you suggested wearing shorter shorts in another video so it makes my legs look longer. It's helped a lot. And I'm so short waisted that a wrap dress/empire waist often hits me at my natural waist line. So awkward, but may aw well embrace who I am.

Thanks for this video, Cathy. I took Kelly Snyder's "Adore Your Wardrobe" class a few years ago. A tip for the apple shape (which includes me) was to wear darker and more "quiet" clothing on top and lighter, more interesting clothing on the bottom to draw the eye away from the middle. For example, try wearing a navy top with white jeans instead of visa versa. Their mantra for the apple shape is to keep the interest up (v- or scoop-necked tops, pretty necklaces and/or earrings, etc.) and down (bright or colored bottoms, interesting shoes, etc.) I also love a third layer and a column of color!

All great tips - agree with you totally about tucking tops in - doesn't always work! Shoulder pads are my go to - they really help. Amazon has some silicone pads that stay in place perfectly (not always the case) and really make a difference for those of use with sloping shoulders and short waists!

BTW, the two side by side pictures you showed of you in the high neck black sweater and the gorgeous blue v-neck dress: the black high neck really aged you. You look MUCH younger in the light blue! V-neck I am going to re-evaluate colors and necklines on me now. I didn't realize how much difference they make.

Hi Cathy. I am 4'11" at 235 lb. And 74 YO. A very short apple body. I've watched a few of your videos and want to thank you for them. However, there were a couple of points that I am challenging. In one video you talked about wearing nude sandals instead of colored ones to elongate the leg. Totally agree with that. But the sandals you were wearing did not have much support. An Apple body, by definition, is a heavy body and needs support in the foot area.
The other point was on capri pants [we used to call them pedal pushers]. I agree they cut the leg off at a wide area, but the shorts you were wearing also cut the leg at the wide part of the thigh. I think a better design for shorts would be ending right above the knee - the smallest part of the thigh. The capris could easily be cut off for that length [at least they can be useful that way].

I usually buy Sketchers, Clarks, Crocs. I can't wear flat or hard sole shoes/sandals

I agree about high collar tops bringing attention to your neck, but I think necklaces that are too short will do the same thing. I purchase chains 20 and 22 inches to put my pendants on, so my pendant won't lay inches from my neck. I think it looks better. Thanks for the videos and advice. Trying on bathing suits is not fun🫤 too bad about the hot pink suit because that color looked great on you. That pink with a tan!!!!🩱🤩

Now I am a shapewear queen and my favorite is Chantelle bodysuit. I do own a few fajas but some days you just don’t want to get strapped up and strapped in lol!! Wearing a bodysuit makes me feel secure and I live in the Deep South!!!

I’m not an apple body, but my stomach is an issue. However, I like horizontal stripes. I have a black and white striped top that looks slimming on me, but it’s the cut of the top that does it.
I've tried the shapewear too, but it's not comfortable and it doesn't help me since I need to go to the bathroom often (drinking lots of water hoping to help with the weight loss....) I'm starting to sew again to allow for more comfort...and a well fitting outfit helps you look slimmer no matter what. And I'm so glad you suggested wearing shorter shorts in another video so it makes my legs look longer. It's helped a lot. And I'm so short waisted that a wrap dress/empire waist often hits me at my natural waist line. So awkward, but may aw well embrace who I am.
