Yet another fantastic video Colin. I’m an 80’s child but still fascinated by Glasgow’s past. These pictures bring it all back to life. Keep up the good work. Thank you 👍🏻
Quite a lot of good memories here. The picture of Garscube Road at Possil Road reminded me of a sad memory when my sister was struck by a car in 1957 right to the left of the picture and was hospitalized for weeks. It was bad and I was not allowed to visit. Thankfully she made a full recovery. I look forward to the next video.
Was great be reminded of bath-houses of old. Missing those huge baths with perched seats which I last used as late as 1989 near the Trongate (long story but kept me clean enough to secure my future missus - still married today). They would be classed as luxury items these days.
I had to ask my old man what the pan pipes were. Starry Starry night.. I thought it was Piano Man 😆 I'm originally from Dalmarnock and listened to gran regale me of tales about gas works being bombed by Luftwaffe as she was blown under her cousins bed by the blast.. also told me about the giant shamrock on Norman St.. I later spoke with an older gentleman in the pub round from there too. I asked about gangs Norman Conks and Nunny Boys from Nuneaton St. I had my moments to keep memories alive then.
Thanks Colin. I love the photos from the 50s/60s/70s where you can see the wartime black/white bands on lamp posts and traffic lights. There was one on Cathcart Rd at Aikenhead Rd where you could still see the faint traces of the white paint as late as 2022. You can check out the old dates on Google Street View. The lamp post has been replaced now.
So many people, so many hopes, where are they all now? I keep thinking of what what was and what has happened to Glasgow and i don't think many know their own history.
@@colinburrowes8063 the only problem with that is those who don't remember the past make the same mistakes in the future. We need to learn, not forget.
I was sorry when we got to the end! So much atmosphere in these old photos, and I think black and white is an advantage for that. I thought the music was very suitable.
Great choice with the music makes it more nostalgic ❤
Thank you.

Maybe some of their hopes came true, though I'm sure most fell on stony ground. I think many people don't like to look back into the past.
