Yeah, what she's dancing here is similar to irish step dancing but is different. I was wondering about it and saw someone else saying it was Appalachian
This is Sean Nos Which is basically the original or old time Irish dancing that the competitive Irish dancing we are used to today is built from. That’s the way I understand it. It's 9-23- 2021 If this doesn't lift your spirits, & bring a smile with a tapping foot... You're deaf & blind.!! Thank You for playing this on youtube. 1920 & 21 has been a strange year in the USA, everywhere I think "Pandemic & Politics". Here's the breath of fresh air, couldn't be more timely.
i keep coming back, thx for uploading this... reminds me of piece of luck i had while in Waterford. A taxi , super cool geezer, knew i wasnt from the hood and invited to a traditional pub with music like this. It was amazing, beyong amazing. (he also gave me a a few decent race horse tips!) . I must add that I did not meet a single person I didnt likeor whohad any ill intension whatsoever whilst a few months in waterford, everybody was just so nice.. These Irish have a special spirit. Will never forget it.
Ive been lucky enough to experience this Irish culture and i will say i wish id stayed in Ireland wonderful people take you as you come and im English.
I just LOVE irish folk. It is the most moving and upbeat music - no words needed, their intruments tell the story in more detail than any vocals ever could.
This music gives you life. It is what I feel. Hopefully soon I will visit that fantastic country as Ireland. Long live Ireland and its people! Greetings from Mendoza - Argentina
It's the kind of music where, by the atmosphere created, the musicians love playing it every bit as much as the audience love hearing it. Hence it will never end ☘
I'm Scottish on my Fathers side, Irish from my Mother...I'm pure Celt blood, and I love this kind of music. May your day be touched by a bit of Irish luck, brightened by a song in your heart and warmed by the smiles of the people you love.
Studying traditional music from india to ireland and it appears the further west one goes, the faster the kusic and fancier the foot work. Its all terrific everywhere you go in the world!!
I wish I could bring my doublebass in there and join my good friend steeve W and all those lovely musicians ! Great to see experienced musicians sharing with the youngest ! Only in Ireland
I bring mine to local sessions all the time. Just be sure whatever you're doing agrees with the guitar/oct mando/accordion chords or you will get hairy eyeballs and pretty much sound like ass. Barring that, the bass adds a really unique low end rhythm that I always get complimented for. If you're still on the fence, see Trevor Hutchinson. EDIT - plus the doghouse just makes everything look next-level
Now that defines the word craic, as in "having the craic". And shared equally by three generations, what could be better or speak more highly of the vibrancy of the Irish music tradition.
No, she isn't her mother. The drummer. She is Cathy Jordan. Singer of the Dervish, it's an Irish traditional folk band. But, I think you've already known this.
This Just Great ! Such Spirit !. So Good To See Young People , There And In The Thick Of It. Some Tremendous Playing Here !. As An “Ancient Jazz Man”, I Worry About The Future Of My Art, With Cut Backs In Music In Schools, Etc. But, ! !, Judging By This Performance, All Is Well In Ireland. Greetings And Best Wishes, John Fenner.
I had friends and relatives around Sligo, Missouri, USA, which was originally settled by the Irish who farmed and worked in the lead mines. This was their music. Beautiful.
Cooley's Reel...for a great folk-rock version check out the '70s era recording of "Centennial Highway Reel/Cooley's Reel" by the Newfoundland band, Figgy Duff off of their 'After the Tempest' album...

Beautiful! So sweet how the girl was initially very shy and her mum(?) encourages her to dance, then she takes off! Amazing talent in that video!

No, it wasn't. This style of music is kind of modern. People in the days would use the same melodies, but with a vastly different sound.

most beautiful people in the world right there.
All of these younger musicians grew up choosing to spend their time with an instrument in their hands, not a cursed cell phone. Now look.
No stupid video games either.
The same is true with Cajun/zydeco in the US.
Who are you to preach on your phone to young people.
Magnifique! bravo!
