Hi guys, ive retrofitted cruise control to my Edition 30, with a febi stalk. Afterwards ive coded the steering controller which is accepted, but when trying to code the engine module and tick the box to enable cruise control in the long coding, it accepts the code but if I go back in, it's reverted back to 00 again. Thanks Oshane:) I was a bit surprised it went to 23 mins but I suppose that pretty quick really considering you get to see the whole job in real time. Hope it helps you do your car.
Excellent DIY video! Followed your instructions and very happy to have successfully replaced my cruise-control stalk. Big smiles from Victoria, BC, Canada :)
i purchased stalk and connecting wire loom, but cant help but this more is needed for the audi a3 8l 1.6 in order form to hac cruise, what control throttle (used to be a vacuum modual) on older cars , ?
Hi there. Even on A3 8L the throttle is managed by the ECU so once you have the stalk fitted and wire connected to the ECU, you need to recode the ECU using VCDS to tell it to look for a cruise control input. I am pretty sure there are some guides out there. I fitted it to an 8N TT which is pretty much the same car.
Great informative video this. I paid for VW to do my cruise retrofit on my jetta about 7 years ago! If this video was out back then, I'd have definitely tackled the job myself and saved about £120. Great work.
How do you connect vagcam to your car at the start? is it just a matter of typing in the registration plate for it to recognize the car model? I have a early 2006 golf mk5 GT. Would it accept it? Can you do a video of changing the cluster to a highline version? I only have the midline version.
Hi, VAG COM will recognise which modules are installed automatically on a CAN BUS car like Mk5 Golf. Unfortunately cluster swaps I believe can't be done with VAG COM due to the immobiliser coding required.
Hey Omar. If it's an MQB car which I think a 2014 Jetta must be then I can't say as I have no experience. If it's a PQ35 car like mk5/6 Golf then it's probably quite easy. Thanks :)
I have a gti edition 30 2007 with highline cluster and steering wheel buttons and want to install cruise control. Am I right in thinking all I need to buy is the cruise control stalk? I already have VCD's and the reason I ask this is because some people online are buying steering control modules and switching wires over from the ECM??? Thank you in advance.
Steering control module is quite likely on that year, you shouldn't need to mess around with wires though. I fitted cc to a 2007 Edition 30 using just the stalk, the steering module accepted the CC coding OK, light even came on on cluster but CC wouldn't work until steering module swapped - really annoying! Scan your module with VCDS to get patt number and check on the Ross Tech site
Hi, excellent video. Helped me a lot to reprogram steering control module , had to replace it due to faulty code. Car is still not running, cranks fine. Crankshaft sendor ok, plugs spark ok, fuel pump ok, . Everything was fine but after replacing fuel filter and fixing vacuum leak, it didn’t start. The car has been parked for over a month for service and water pump replacement. Is there any inhibitor switch on golf mk5 GT which is resisting it to start? On Vcds it showed only steering control module fault. Can you please help? What should I be looking for on Vcds? Battery was very low so I charged it couple of times. During charging , Once I mistakenly connected wrong terminal to battery due to very dark, which resulted in a blown fuse on charger. I checked all the fuses with tester and also changed old one with new, and they are ok. Anything I should else be looking for?
I am not sure modern cars can handle batteries being connected the wrong way around so it's possible (not definite) that you might have damaged the ECU. Has the car started since you did that?
Thanks Roger. I haven't got time to review the video know but I knew at the time 2011 onwards for Golf 6 and Scirocco there was a change in the stalk as it went from each side separately to a combined left and right stalk presumably to save VW money. Just checked and it's stated clearly in the description of the video

Brilliant video. Very good explanation, nice and clear and concise. Can you tell me when the byte and bit on the engine coding is? I couldn't quite work it out from the video?
Otherwise ok but i would have liked to see airbag facing other way around on passenger seat, the pause to drain remaining current after disconnecting the battery for half an hour and see the actual tab which holds the cruise in the place (in video we can see only your elbow).
Glad to be of service! I've not installed CC on an Up! but it's a very Mk5/6 car in that area so should be similar. Be interesting to see if each stalk is separate or if they are one part as on later Mk6
volkswizard I think the stalks come as a pair but the ups have different bcs modules and only 3 out of 5 are comparable with cruise or it’s another £500!!
Hi Jonathan, I reckon it is, the stalks are very similar to Mk5/6 Golf but I'm not sure if they are the late Mk6 type which means the left and right stalk are actually one part. I've got cruise on my Up! GTI, as you can imagine I love it!
Hi John. Thanks for commenting. You do actually need to code the steering control module and the engine ECU but these can be done by anyone with VCDS. I cant get any vagcom done without driving the car somewhere really. could I take apart my wheel, check the model of my steering module and ensure cruise works, then install the stalk. then I can get coding soon as I start driving?
Can't see why not, it's just a lot easier to scan than dismantle but if you have time and don't have to reassemble then go for it. Check list here wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions
Instant like and subscribe! I know it says the guide is for MK6 Golf, Passat, A3 ect, just wondering if this will work on a Seat Leon 2011, diesel please? Edit: By the way my car doesnt have any steerling wheel controls
Should be similar but you may have the one piece stalk that does both left and right sides rather than left and right being separate stalks - the Mk6 Golf from 2010 has the one piece stalks (unfortunately as they cost more!)
Hello first of all thank you for this video!I just want to ask you...I have a vw scirocco 1.4 2008 with golf mk5 steering and i want to install a cruise control like this it is impossible to install it without make changes to the wiring like you done it ?Only with vcds cooding because i saw a lot of videos that they put wires in the steering.
I’ve got a scirocco with the mk5 wheel too, did you ever try fitting it and what did you need to do? I’m hoping it’s just as easy as in the video but I’m not sure
This is usually automatic though never done a Leon. On some Golf 5 the green cruise dash light only comes on when the speed is set, on others it comes on when when you switch cruise with a speed being set (i.e. based on position on the switch in top of the stalk).
Wow, thanks Chris! Considering there are SO many DIY videos from other helpful people I am humbled. It is a job I really enjoy doing which I guess helps, glad it helped you too 👍
Thanks, your video helped alot😁 One tip for getting the airbag out use your flat head driver and place it in the cut out on top and put it on top of the black piece which is the clip and pry it to the centre of the steering wheel, really quite a easy step once you know the orientation of said clip.
Can you help with cruise control assembly for audi a4 b5 1999 year afn engine , specialy how to conect wires to ecu , and where , witch pin to conect to , thanks
Not sure about OBDeleven pro but of you can do coding it should be OK. The beauty of VCDS is that is doesn't give you the coding options (on most cars). Is the coding in the video? Should be. I don't have the car any longer so can't extract it but it should be on the web somewhere.
Thanks for the guide. If I code the ecu for cruise control and it accepts it does that confirm that I have the cable running between the steering wheel control module and the ecu or is the only way to confirm to take it all apart?
That's a good question. If you code the engine ECU for cruise, this may not prove you have the cable. Likewise, if you code the steering control module. The reason for this is that you are accessing these modules via the existing diagnostic cables, the bit you want is to to go from steering column module to ECU and not sure how to test that. If your car is post 2006 model year you will almost definitely have the cable. I've never fitted the cable so unsure as to how to know for sure. Also if your car came with a cruise compatible steering module, then there is a good chance it will have the cable. Best of luck.
volkswizard Finally got round to doing this. The car had a compatible steering module and accepted the coding so chanced taking it all apart and the cable was there. A bit of forum digging suggested the cable became standard at some point in 2006 (its a 06 car).
If it's UK, use this contact form to ask them www.meyle.com/nc/en/contact/ If not UK, their global site will be able to help. I tend to find what I want on Ebay :)

I had the video in front of me and followed you step by step. Absolutely spot on with instruction. Cannot give you enough praise. Great video. Well done. 👍🏻
@@adikacorri8892 It depends on the car, some early Mk5 Golf and cars based on that platform won't have the wire and it makes the job a lot harder to do. There is a way to check but I can't recall how. From my experience 2006> cars seems to have the wire (usually!)
Do you always have to code it? I have a broken a3 with it on and a another a3 without it, will I just be able to use all the parts from it and stick it on the new car?
THANK you for this video man!! Oh my word. I was looking for a legit guide for a while (most are people just aimlessly hacking away at pieces of trim for 5 minutes) and then I saw this one by you and knew it would be good! 👍🏼
Anything is possible in theory but I don't think you could on PQ35 chassis very easily, I believe Passat did have it but it would be a nightmare as radar location needs to be 100% perfect and stable. On MQB it would be hard enough but every MQB car (I think) has it as standard or an option.
@@volkswizard i think if you make it like Touareg have under badge , or like audi on sides of bumper like fog lights , that is not problem , i think hard part is electronics , wiring and calibration i think

Just Installed in an early (red MFD) Scirocco DSG.
Found a friendly person to code it for me and all works.
No speed comes up on display though. Is this correct?
I think on this generation of Golf/Scirocco there is no display of speed set, Passat had it, Golf and Scirocco didn't
my car is off the road at the minute, and I'm doing as much work on it as possible before it's on road.
Check list here

Great video 👍👍
Trying to do it on a vw golf 2012 gtd
Will I need to replace the module also many thanks
Great video! Do you know if Meyle do one for a 2011 Audi A3 1.4 Sportback?
I would also like to know this
Will this work for 2012 mk6?
Instant like and subscribe! I know it says the guide is for MK6 Golf, Passat, A3 ect, just wondering if this will work on a Seat Leon 2011, diesel please? Edit: By the way my car doesnt have any steerling wheel controls
Should be similar but you may have the one piece stalk that does both left and right sides rather than left and right being separate stalks - the Mk6 Golf from 2010 has the one piece stalks (unfortunately as they cost more!)
Hi i have a vw jetta 2013 1.6 tdi , and i wanna fit cruise control and i wanna know if i need to chance the controle module ? Thank you!!
Hard to say unless you try and code it and see if it accepts cruise. If it does then fit the stalk and you *should* be good to go 👍👍
thanks for your video!
It is a fantastic video! Thanks man!
Best on the web for this how to. Thanks 👍
Brilliant video thank you
Hello first of all thank you for this video!I just want to ask you...I have a vw scirocco 1.4 2008 with golf mk5 steering and i want to install a cruise control like this it is impossible to install it without make changes to the wiring like you done it ?Only with vcds cooding because i saw a lot of videos that they put wires in the steering.
I’ve got a scirocco with the mk5 wheel too, did you ever try fitting it and what did you need to do? I’m hoping it’s just as easy as in the video but I’m not sure
You're the real MVP, got my Cruise all solved. Thank you!!
Hi mate, do you have to do anything on instrument cluster to indicate cruise control active and set speed on a seat leon mk2?
This is usually automatic though never done a Leon. On some Golf 5 the green cruise dash light only comes on when the speed is set, on others it comes on when when you switch cruise with a speed being set (i.e. based on position on the switch in top of the stalk).
Amazing the only thing is i need to find out is if my car continues to support the Cruise control option is there any easy way or do you need VCDs
You need VCDS or the main dealer diagnostic tool. If you are on an owners' forum, people often do it for beer money
Very nice job
Thanks شاجي الغريب, much appreciated.
Legend, thanks so much, works perfectly
My pleasure 👍
Great video. It will be the same as on my A3 2005 8P1 model?
Thanks
Roughly the same setup, different Stalk & Trim. You may also require the ECU wire on a 2005 model
Great job.
probably would be good idea to face airbag other way round and also mark the steering column screw.
Thanks for sharing.
One of the best "How to" videos I have ever seen!
you make the complicated, look easy :)
Love your work!
Wow, thanks Chris! Considering there are SO many DIY videos from other helpful people I am humbled. It is a job I really enjoy doing which I guess helps, glad it helped you too 👍
slip ring interesting terminology
Thanks, your video helped alot😁
One tip for getting the airbag out use your flat head driver and place it in the cut out on top and put it on top of the black piece which is the clip and pry it to the centre of the steering wheel, really quite a easy step once you know the orientation of said clip.
Can you help with cruise control assembly for audi a4 b5 1999 year afn engine , specialy how to conect wires to ecu , and where , witch pin to conect to , thanks
Would love to help but it’s beyond my skill set, I only do Mk5 when it’s plug and play. Keep searching as the info will be out there 👍
@@volkswizard thanks , well Im searching but still nothing , thaks for reply
Would this be the same for a 2007 2.0 gttdi ?
Should be very similar, just make sure the control module can take cruise
Would this work on a 2010 Passat CC?
It will be similar, doesnt' CC use another stalk for cruise? Regardless process will be very similar.
Hi VWWizard, I am really impressed with your videos, very informative!, will this work in VW UP! 2014?
Thanks Ahmed! The Up! process should be similar 👍
Thank you very much!!! I can now cruiseee
Glad I could help!
Is this doable with the OBDeleven pro ? As this has a long coding option. And if so can you help the coding ?
Not sure about OBDeleven pro but of you can do coding it should be OK. The beauty of VCDS is that is doesn't give you the coding options (on most cars). Is the coding in the video? Should be. I don't have the car any longer so can't extract it but it should be on the web somewhere.
volkswizard couldn’t quite see from the video. But will do some digging.
Thank you! Worked like a charm!
Glad to be of service 🤓
Spend an hour online
Can't figure out how to buy from meyle
Any help?
Cheers
If it's UK, use this contact form to ask them www.meyle.com/nc/en/contact/
If not UK, their global site will be able to help.
I tend to find what I want on Ebay :)
Buy Genuine VW
I have just done this Mod today on my MK5, Golf TDi (55 plate)
I got the Meyle cruise control Stalk off eBay for £34.99
On Borrowing A VagCom computer. I had the video in front of me and followed you step by step.
Absolutely spot on with instruction. Cannot give you enough praise.
Great video. Well done. 👍🏻
Thanks Pete! Glad it helped you as that's the only reason why I made it👍
great video!
I have a audi a3 2006 end i wana install the cruiser but i wana ask y if it needs to config the car with a computer? Btw vert helpfully video👌
Hi Mar10, yes you will need to configure it using a computer but any specialist with VCDS should be able to do this for beer money.
volkswizard ok thx so much, i have another question, i have seen in some vid that y need to open the dashboard to install a wire ,its that true? Thx
@@adikacorri8892 It depends on the car, some early Mk5 Golf and cars based on that platform won't have the wire and it makes the job a lot harder to do. There is a way to check but I can't recall how. From my experience 2006> cars seems to have the wire (usually!)
Great video! Thanks 👍
Very good
Do you always have to code it? I have a broken a3 with it on and a another a3 without it, will I just be able to use all the parts from it and stick it on the new car?
Should be OK but there are so many pitfalls I don't want to promise, good luck :)
Grazie
I did exactly like you and it work just fine (Golf 5 Plus). Thanks 👍
Excellent 🙌
Hi Octavian Dinu
I have the same car
Which year is ur golf plus?
May i contact you please
THANK you for this video man!! Oh my word. I was looking for a legit guide for a while (most are people just aimlessly hacking away at pieces of trim for 5 minutes) and then I saw this one by you and knew it would be good! 👍🏼
Glad I could help👍
Its possible to add distance cruise control ?
Anything is possible in theory but I don't think you could on PQ35 chassis very easily, I believe Passat did have it but it would be a nightmare as radar location needs to be 100% perfect and stable. On MQB it would be hard enough but every MQB car (I think) has it as standard or an option.
@@volkswizard i think if you make it like Touareg have under badge , or like audi on sides of bumper like fog lights , that is not problem , i think hard part is electronics , wiring and calibration i think
