I was there, it was just awesome, you have to remember that there were almost no pro skaters in Britain at the time, hardly anyone had ever seen a pro skater, they were legends. We were just kids, I used to travel for two hours each way on the train to get to Rom, the only skate park I had ever been to. I honestly don't think anyone knew how to react and just emulated the kids on early american skate videos, what the video doesn't show is that after the demo Rodney spent ages talking to everyone, discussing tricks and even taking some tips.
Every trick: "YYYEEAAAHHHHHH!" hahaha

Normally I think of it like parkour in that an individual moving through their environment and using it as a medium of their expression. When I see folks on the flats like this just tearing it up it reminds me of shit like figure skating. Just taking a flat space and just tearing it up. And you're right, just like those things, it's an art.

+Lore P. Dude that board is made specifically for flatland freestyle, that's still what you want to use if you're going to do flatland freestyle xD but yeah Rodney Mullen is legendary. should go check out some other freestyle skaters though they use the same kind of decks even today.
Dylion Jahlly freestyle boards now have kick tails and actual nose, this is more like a penny board

No that board is exactly the same, it has kick tails it just doesn't have concave look at the video you can see them. if you know anything about flatland freestyle though you know that any deck after being used especially as much as Rodney Mullen skates.. gets beaten up and flattened out on the tails exactly like this board did.

Spacewalk- into walk the dog- into endover into toe pirouette. Few other than Rodney can make this look cool. Isamu excepted!
Point being lots of repetitive flip variations in routines now but few really master the basics- and they ARE very basic freestyle foot work manouevres! Integrated and with real kinetic dynamism and/or flow you have something worth watching!

Might also be a G-turn (Variant)or a Samoan squat into spacewalk- please don't diss me on this- these are variations on 1970's tricks-I know what they were called back then- perhaps not what they may be called now! Samoan Squats give you the most powerful quads!
