My paternal Grannie`s family had the Jolly Sailor from its opening in around 1770 to c 1920 . (Also the house opposite from the 1600s) The pub was used for many autopsies throughout the Victorian period .It was originally considerably smaller than at present and was developed especially by Cuddy Hutchinson , my direct ancestor and his nephew William Tinkler throughout the Victorian era .It also had a very strong freemason influence and was the meeting place for the Oddfellows also, with ,I know, some occult practices . I have researched its history in detail ; I am sure it was not a coaching inn as such .
