We have seen quite a lot of Korea over the past few years, but we have never ventured all the way to the far west. We like to explore and go to places where people often don’t go.
During Chuseok this year, we rented a car and drove all the way to Wando Island which is a 4-hour drive from Busan. Wando island is one of Korea’s 3358 islands and is connected to the mainland via a bridge. There are many other smaller islands in the Wando County that one can also visit, but you will need to take a ferry.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the island and came across some incredible heritage sites, splendorous beaches and tried out some new dishes all while we gazed upon the Korean people uniquely celebrating their favorite holiday.
We stayed at Wandonesia guesthouse that we booked via Airbnb. We highly recommend that you check out this place. It has a quaint café on the first floor and rooms on floor 2, 4 and 5. The 3rd floor is a communal area with a well-equipped kitchen for sell catering purposes. You also have access to roof where you can sit and enjoy a beer while looking out over downtown Wando Island.

Jang-Bogo, a Silla man(formerly South Korea), went to the Tang Dynasty (formerly China) and became a general there, but he left china and returned to Home Silla. He was approved by the King of Silla and gained more than 10,000 troops to build the CheongHaeJin(a Fortress) in Wando island as a general of Silla. He swept through chinese pirates and seized maritime rights in the East China Sea, where he led international trade between Silla, China and Japan.
Jang-Bogo built CheongHaeJin in Wando island as a general of Silla, not as a general of china. If he built ChengHaeJin as a chinese general, Silla would have attacked and destroyed the ChengHaeJin.

...Chang Bo-Go is not a Chinese admiral. He was from Silia, one of the Famous Three Kingdoms of the Ancient Korea.
Hi - yes you are right. He was a Korean, but he migrated to China in his youth and advanced to the position of captain in the army there. He only returned to Korea in the year 828.
They refer to him as a Chinese admiral at the historic site. Can be quite confusing. Thanks for your support and for watching our videos :)
@@NinguAdventures I don't know "who" are those "they" who refer to him as a Chinese. In Korea everyone knows him as a Korean (or at least a man of Shilla). His returning to Silla was to defend his compatriots from Chinese pirates who were capturing them and selling them as slaves to China....So the King of Shilla accepted the proposal of Jang Bo Go to set up the Cheong He Jin to the protection of Koreans from Chinese. At this time, the animosity of Korean people against the almost official attempt of Chinese government to appropriate Korean history is very high. I know it was unintentional, just wanted to gave you a warning. never say he is Chinese again to Korean public. We Korean people did not forget when Xi Jing Ping said to Trump Korea was a part of China...Anyways do not misunderstand, I am not angry against you. Just a friendly warning.
@@조성훈-t2s If anyone says that Jang-Bogo was once a Chinese general, that's right. He later became general of Silla. However, if someone says that Jang-Bogo was Chinese, it is wrong. Jang-Bogo was a Silla man.
