Thank you for this most excellent video. Just like every other one of your videos that I have seen, this one is clear, concise, helpful, interesting to watch and, above all, gives the impression that you believe it important to explain those things which others neglect but which shed light on your subject matter. I've seen many videos on this device from other content providers but none of them have offered nearly as clear or helpful an explanation of how this sharpener works. Thank you for your efforts and for not taking your viewers for granted. I hope your work helps raise the bar for others and I look forward to seeing more. Thank you
Hi Marek! Thank you so much for the kind encouragement! I always try to pack as much useful information in a video as possible and avoid rambling and straying off topic, so I’m glad you appreciate the effort! Thanks for watching!
Straight to the point, no long advertisement, no non-sense or tiring blah, blah, blah wasted words! Great Job. I love these sharpeners. I just subbed!!
Best video that I’ve seen to sharpen a chain. Loved that you did each link so I don’t have to do alternating links then flip my chainsaw to do the other links. Also your color identification of the different parts of the sharpener and the chain parts was extremely helpful. Thank you for your excellent video. 😊
Thank you from your complete demonstration I have finally mastered my sharpening skills and now I can get rid of the 4 other sharpening tools that I have tried without success
Got one of these recently though I have never sharpened a chainsaw previously. After watching a few videos I got the worn chain sharpened in under 5 minutes and it works just as well as a new chain!
I got one in the mail today exactly like the one you are displaying in the video. My only regret is I didn’t buy one years ago when they hit the market. Best money I have spent in a long time.
Really appreciate the information. I believe I have watched most if not all of the videos on UA-cam on this subject. There are none that are any better or more correct and understandable. I have a much better understanding of this tool and how it works Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thank you! This was a very professional well made video. It rivals even one of the most popular This Old House. You showed precisely how the tool is used and even showed an under view of the file in motion. It left me with no questions. I subscribed and can’t wait to see what else you have.
Thank you for your kind encouragement! Glad you enjoyed it. The best way to get the feel of my channel is to look through my playlists. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Watched your video. Bought the sharpener. Used it - easy. Totally amazed. Never had a blade as sharp. Thank u so much. Next, make a saw clamp like yours.
Hi John! It is certainly better priced. I have seen some cheaper versions of it from China but I don’t know if the quality is there or not. Thanks for watching!
I paid 50$ CDN (35 USD) for the Stihl sharpener at the local dealer. It's worth 10x its price. Whatever you hit with the chain, you can make it sharp again in no time. Impressive. I can see in the background you finished the walls! Thanks!
Thanks for this video. I was close to buying the Stihl but could not confirm if their tool would work with a 5/32 file size....this clearly does and you did a great job showing how it works.
This comment is late, but these are sold with different size files, and from my reading although files are replaceable they should only be replaced with the same size file as was originally in the sharpener. In other words, if you need a 5/32 then buy one specific for 5/32.
I use this brand of sharpener for both of my saws. Great choice! I've never bothered marking my chain when going around just because there's a very clear difference in appearance for the teeth that have already been sharpened. Depending on the chain, you may need to use a slight decline on the horizontal plane when sharpening. This varies from one model of chain to another, so check the documentation for your chain.
Great job, Martin! I agree that is the best sharpener around. I did the same as you and figured out how to save about 10$ by getting the Pfred brand. You give an excellent overview of the measurements you need to pick the correct sharpener. Often times it says what you need to know on the chainsaws bar. Cheers!!
I have the same brand for my Stihl ms361 and it is excellent. It makes the chips fly like it was a new chain. Also, I was in the Stihl store the other day and the Stihl version was now only about $35.00. When I bought my Pferd over a year ago for $35, the Shihl version was about $50 in the store.
Nicely explained. I have a Stihl one for the large saws and was thinking of getting another one for the smaller saws, I think I'll try the brand you suggested. I'll also check if the replacement files are cheaper than Stihl and try them in the Stihl.
Great vid, I didn't now about the Pferd brand being cheaper. I just bought another one of these for my Stihl 461 saw. Wish I knew about the Pferd! Full watch!
Hi DYI, can you do a video on how to connect a hydraulic coupler after the pressure was not released? I have a grapple on my L3901 I can’t reconnect the grapple, there’s too much pressure on female coupler, I tried to release the pressure by putting on the tractor without starting the engine and wiggling the controls, it’s not working
Hi Dominic! That's a good idea! I will do one, but I'll tell you how to fix the problem now so you won't have to wait for it. You'll need leather gloves, safety glasses, a hammer, and a 2" or 3" half inch bolt (for female connectors). For a male connector, you just have to give the connector plunger a good swift whack with the hammer. A little hydraulic fluid will come out but that's all it takes to release the pressure. For the female connector, use the bolt to reach the plunger and give the bolt a good whack with the hammer. That should solve the problem.
How's she goin'? Those are nice sharpeners eh!!! And the price is nice compared to the Stihl. Some may think that's a lot of money for a sharpener, but a nice sharp chain will make the chain and bar last longer and will be easier on the saw and you!!! So it's worth the money!!! Great video Martin. I really like the way you edit a video!!! Take care!!!
Glad you like it, Brian. I have a video on making it: Portable Chainsaw Sharpening Station (#14) ua-cam.com/video/cSm-MHqzQms/v-deo.html. Thanks for watching!
Hi Richard! Here are the dimensions: Platform 18.25" x 10.5" Saw Rest Block: 10.5"L X 1.5"W x 2.5"H, located 4.25" from back of platform Prop Block: 10.5"L x 1.5"W x 3.5"H, Angle is 12 degrees Hope this helps!

Glad it helped you, Peter! Thanks for watching!
I have 2 of the Still units I bought last year for @ $38 each from my Stihl dealer. LOVE IT! So easy to use. A no brainer.
Definitely, Ernest! The best design of a chainsaw sharpener I’ve seen yet. Thanks for watching!
That's the best video for this sharpener so far. Thanks.
Thank you very much!

I have two of these for two different chainsaws, but I now know how to use them more effectively. Best video in this sharpener by far. Thank you!
Thank you, sir, for the encouraging words! Glad you found it helpful!
Watched your video. Bought the sharpener. Used it - easy. Totally amazed. Never had a blade as sharp. Thank u so much. Next, make a saw clamp like yours.
Glad you like it as much as I do, Eduardo! I have a video on how I made that chainsaw sharpening stand. Thanks for watching!
Another one of your excellent, detailed, instructional videos. I always appreciate them. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Terry! Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
I bought this about 2 years ago, it’s a great investment. Thanks for posting all your videos, they’re great.
Glad you like them, Tony! I appreciate your kind words!
👍 I too recommend. Been using my Stihl sharpener for over a year now. I'm a believer.
Thank you. That file jig looks like the way to go.
It’s AWESOME! Thanks for watching!
I'v been looking for a good way to get my chains sharpened. I will give this a try! Thanks for the great video!
Thank you Martin! That's a little better priced! I like the way you go through the proper way to use it as well!! Have a good one my friend!!

Exactly, Joe! It’s an awesome tool! I haven’t finished all the walls yet. Just the ones in that back corner where the bench is.
Nicely done Martin. I've never seen one before but it sure looks like it'd a good addition to any tool box.
Thanks, Wendell! It is indeed a very nice device! Thanks for watching!
I have one and it's great. Wish I knew about it sooner. I doesn't require electricity and it fits inside my 028 hard case.
Morning DIY! Yup, got one. Love it. Great overview and detailed outline of how it works and how to use it. Have a great weekend!
Thanks GP! Yes, it is a most excellent device. Thanks for watching!

Excellent and comprehensive
Great video! Excellent demonstration of how to use it. I have the overpriced Stihl sharpener. Works great!
Thanks, Phil! These sharpeners sure make it easy, don’t they? Thanks for watching!

Thanks! Yes, it is often on the bar - until it wears off! Thanks for watching!
I agree. I have a stihl one..awesome. your chain bar should say size of chain on it
Once upon a time it did have it on it but it wore off. Fortunately, the chainsaw itself also has the information on it. Thanks for watching!
