I sat near the windowsill, crying silently, while my ex held my hand, relieved about having spoken his mind. He tried to tell me we'd still stay friends and that maybe we could be lovers again. He only offered insincere and indifferent hugs and intimacy, like all of them had been for the last halfyear. While he talked very upbeat about the future plans that he imaged for us, I stared right into the orange sunset, knowing I'd already texted my dad to come and get me. I wasn't going to stay in this house, as he thought, I wasn't going to 'talk it over' or 'have one more night together' or anything he thought was waiting for him. I just stopped listening to his stories, silently stared into the distance and began distancing myself from everything in that room, my paintings, my crafts, my books and all the other things he refused to give back and as soon as the doorbell rang and he said; 'Who'd visit us this late?' I answered with a hoarse voice; 'It's my dad, I texted him. I'm leaving now, I'm not staying the night.' I didn't expect him to be thát confused about it, but he was. He seemed to be expecting we'd stay together and cry about it together, finish the weekend together or maybe even get back together. Neither happened. I was gone. I don't remember what he said that day, I only remember the sunset. In the knowledge that I was about to leave, it looked so much more melancholic, but also so much more promising. It'd sink down, below the horizon and the next morning when I woke up, the sun had risen again and I cried out of relief. I was gone.
