I followed the exact steps but couldn't select the vertex at 0:29. When I try to select the pink square all pink squares disappear and I have the whole object selected. The problem only occurs after polygon to subdiv step. Before that I can select vertex fine. Do you know why this problem exists?
I have the same problem edit: If you convert back: subdiv to polygons you can select the vertices again Not sure why this happens tho... To continue to the next part you need to turn soft selection on and change falloff to 0.5
