Restoration, Engineer's Knife

  • Hi, the knife was created between 1956 - 1962, it was during this time that the engineer spent his weekends creating knives and various DIYs. The knife was given to me by this man's son, it was 3 years ago, I had doubts about this knife when I first picked it up, it's a hole in the middle of the blade, strange geometry, and I said what I think, but the man told me it's quality steel and I'll be satisfied if I fix this knife, Adding that bearing housings and gears are made of this steel, and this blade will cut well and stay sharp for a long time, and I took it. I haven't decided yet whether this handle is suitable for such a blade or not, so I did not fill it with epoxy resin, but I really like how the blade cuts, can it replace wood with deer antler, or make a handle out of leather, or put a piece of black hose instead of wood? I don't know, but if I change it, I'll take a photo and show it to you. Thank you for supporting me, subscribe if you haven't subscribed yet, it will be interesting

    I guess it looks cool for youtube. But I will never understand why you guys, as in youtubers, find it necessary to do all this rust removal and then sand the knife. Makes no sense. Anyway, good job.

      I do not argue, in this case, polishing is sharpening.

    Just boil the rust off instead of sanding it lol, then your wire brush will actually work

      За одну минуту, как ? Это же не кусок забора, возможно что если использовать хорошую оснастку из керамики то минут тридцать. Я потратил больше двадцати часов на шлифовку используя карбид кремния

      If you have the opportunity, share this video with someone... And I've already started working on another knife, the steel is good, but the geometry, I can't figure out if it's a souvenir or some kind of special knife. Thank you, I will continue to grind

    Real workman's knife. Was kinda nervous when you cut wood like peeling a carrot though. One slip up and part of your finger is gone

    • @RestorationOT
      @RestorationOT  6 місяців тому +1

      I was a little nervous when the cutting disc burst and a small pebble hit the glass of my glasses, but I'm not arguing with you that you need to be careful with a knife.

      Comfortable enough for my hand, a few days ago I cut out the handle for the next knife with this Knife, the video is already on the channel. But that next Knife is different in functions, it is not very suitable for woodwork, some kind of special Knife, I don't know what it is for, maybe you will also like it. Thank you

    Looks like half of an industrial shear welded to a shanked bolt.

    • @RestorationOT
      @RestorationOT  5 місяців тому

      The surface of the knife after polishing has a uniform shade, the welding would be very clearly visible, when the knife was in rust, I also had thoughts that it is a bolt welded to the blade, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this item, check out my other videos they are different, maybe you will like some of them, the steel of these knives is good, I use some of them

    Shme on you.
    You have spent a lot of time and effort to convert a fine antique knife to a shiny piece of junk. Next time, just use a chop saw. it's just as effective and a lot less work.

    • @RestorationOT
      @RestorationOT  6 місяців тому
