I love the behind-the-scenes content; so glad VIA have been able to hook you up with some of that after they took you all the way across Canada!
The repair and maintenance facility for Edmonton and Calgary LRT cars are much the same if on a lighter tonnage than the railway.
Stay busy love that you never limit your horizons
This was so interesting to watch! Love the vids DownieLive!👍
Anything to do with trains is always worth watching, IMO.
I use to catch alot of trains when I was a child. I always thought about how they fixed things on a train. Now I know. Thank you
I wasn’t sure how interesting this Vlog would be but once again you have taught me something I didn’t know anything about. Thanks Mike!
Wow, more behind the scenes info I didn't know would be interesting until I watched.
Mind blown!!! In less than 5 minutes…😎
Thanks for sharing more train content. My dad used to be a welder for CPR in Sudbury.
Hey Mike ! Today I ordered the twice a year 🧺 laundry 🧺 strips from Tru 🌎 Earth 🌎. Why am I telling you about it ? I am telling you to Thank You for the introduction to this company via your channel. Most of the time I really don't like commercials in a video. However, when you showcased them it resonated and now I am hooked. So, it's your fault. 😊 Keep up the good work !
Hahaha! That’s perfect! That’s why I talk about them, because they’re great!
Caught me off-guard, having a video pop up mid-week, Mike !
Really Cool. Interesting information, too.👍
Love your videos Mike. God Bless You and your family.
"I don't know where you're going next. But, I know I want to be there with you!" ;-)
Love your videos!
Really interesting didn't know any of this. Great video, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Question: If, to repair a flat spot, they grind the wheel down to smooth it out, doesn't that make the wheel smaller? That is, the diameter of the wheel would be less? Given they are on fixed axels that are set at a fixed height, wouldn't the smaller wheel ride above the track?
Yes you’re right, it does get smaller. So they take measurements of all the wheels to determine if they can get away with cutting one axle or if it is to much a difference they have to cut all the wheels on a truck to match. If now one truck is too different from the other truck they have to cut the other truck to match. You’d be surprised how many wheel turns one wheel set can get before having to be changed out.
good point friend
@@onyxpartitian Ding ding! Well put.
hi 😂😂😂 iam TJ frm the vid!!! 😂😂😂😂 so the diameter goes down but we ha e specs from wheel to wheel that we have to match and truck to truck! have a nice day😊😊!!
@@tajindermalhan8876 Very cool, TJ! It looks like you keep your Stanray in great condition. I hope the machine is treating you well today and every day.
That was a great little tour Mike! Reminds me of my tour of the Rocky Mountaineer facility here in Kamloops back in 2011.
This is all so interesting, I mean I’ve always wondered how a broken/damaged train wheel get repaired but all of that and more in a somewhat big warehouse!?
SO INCREDIBLE 🤩🚂!
Absotively fascinating. Again. Thanks.
Another fascinating insight into how things we normally don't think about work to keep passengers safe and cargo rolling to its destination. Awesome!
I hadn't seen any new reports and was getting worried that you had stopped. Then I saw your Signature report and was extremely relieved to see you were back. I then saw this one, a bit older. Keep up the good work.
More to come!
HOW COOL, I just watched a vlog about the Queen Mary and the use of ultrasound to inspect the hull's integrity.
So much information with so many details packed in this little short video!!! Not even 4 minutes and 30 seconds!? Gotta watch a couple more times later when I'm more awake and have a clearer vision 😆.... Wait a sec! It's not Saturday today! I better get up!
It’s a bonus week!
Great video with all the information on trains ❤️❤️
That is so cool! This is one of the questions that I never knew I wanted answered...I wish my dad were still alive; pretty certain I got my love of trains from him. Who knew it was genetic!?
Mike! I LOVE your posts. Because of them, I am seriously considering a cross-USA or a cross-Canada trip. Without prejudice ( I know that’s asking a lot) which would be better? By the way, what do you plan to do with your hair? It must be a lot of work keeping it so long. Sincerely, Chuck McDermott
A bonus DownieLive video!! Such a nice surprise!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Great video, love these behind the scenes for trains, buses, trolleybuses & planes. Keep the videos coming.
That's a Stanray Wheel Truing Machine! What a machine. Glad you got to see it in action.
This series of vlogs reminds me of the show This is Daniel Cook. All the behind the scenes of how everything works. LOVE IT!!
I like the short format!
Thank you for this very interesting video. I hope some day you will do a visit to the Vancouver water system and sewage system.
That would be interesting
Interesting that Via rail is maintaining rocky mountaineer equipment
Rocky has a facility in Kamloops, they probably needed the wheel lathe which they don’t have. CN has sent locomotives to the Vancouver Maintenance Centre for similar work as well.
Excellent explanations 👋👋👋😃!
That was awesome thanks so much I had no idea how they did things. Can't wait till I am with you on your next adventure.
I like the content of this video. I really enjoyed it.❤😀👍👍
Love your videos as always
Great info , ❤️ from India
Hey, that place looks familiar! 😉
Love the behind the scenes videos that you create Mike! It's always cool learning more about how things work!
Can You do a Behind The scenes at YVR Airport Video ?
@DownieLive You should make a video about the new VIA RAIL Siemens trains !
The wheels are not rigidly bolted to the suspension. There is a massive coil spring above each wheel that allows for a certain amount of adjustment. Past that, however, then the wheel must be replaced.
Thanks for doing a good video on this important process, Mike.
Amazing video .Mike I owe you a coffee . Waiting for more videos like this . Cya!!!
I loved this one. Looks like you have a fan in the train den. I look forward to seeing your videos Mike. Thanks for introducing us to Sprouht as well.
Cool train workshop!
Cool, I used to park by the works yard and wonder what was in those buildings, now I know! :)
First watching from Tisdale Saskatchewan
MIke you need to get access to the underground in Vancouver, ask Hydro about the sub station under the park in dtn across from the cathedral on Dunsmuir or the
tunnels along Pender Street with the glass blocks in the sidewalk
great video
Very cool!!
Nice surprise!
Downie Live on a Wednesday?! LET'S GOOOOOOO!
I was confused about that too! I was like, "today's not Saturday?"
@@CindyandRicoTheCoonhoundCross hahaha I did a double take!
It’s a BONUS week!
@@DownieLive please do this more often!!
Really interesting to watch.😲👍😊
I sure enjoy your channel! Thanks
I appreciate that!
Good one Mike. It's amazing how many rail travellers have no idea what goes into making their journey safe. You have revealed just a few of the maintenance tasks that goes on behind the scenes and you've done it well as usual. I had to chuckle at the opening scene of the Trans-Siberian, then London Underground's older stock. One could speculate that you're telling us that Putin's wheels have fallen off and that Boris J might need to borrow Ma'am's Oyster Card to check out HER line now that it's finally open. Just sayin' Looking forward to your next rail industry revelation.
Very interesting.
Nice one....
Thanks MIke
I’ve been there before!
Just got to Jasper Alberta for my new job. By via.
Interesting. I didn't know. I wondered.
Very cool! How long did you say it took from start to finish for one carriage?
Bonus upload :0
Nice👍🏾
I've seen a documentary about it, so, as in Canada to prevent useless costs, that how they do it in France too. By the way, we saw the Pacific Central station, what its history ? It's a beautiful building.
Make video of New park in downtown Vancouver
Love any train content.
Now, how about a cruise ship? So many interesting things behind the scenes and your style would be better than the Discovery Mighty Ships versions - just sayin' 😀
Cool
😶👍♥ just want to say this was pretty interesting and quite incredible
awesome!🦌💌❤️👍
I like that
Any idea whether VIA will be refurbishing more of their Chateau sleeping cars into Prestige Class cars? It would be interesting to see them strip down a car to its bare bones and rebuild it.
Goddamn that is one cursed thumbnail face
Mike over here trying to become an SCP
Can the music, would be a great video
The music on this video was kinda distracting LOL ❤️
Will we be seeing any more Amtrak videos from you?
You know it, Juan! I've filmed 5 more so far, they're just being edited and they'll come out soon.
@@DownieLive Perhaps this could be season two of DownieLive Travels by Train???
Great video loved it all. Drop by for a latte Michael in your foster home in Stanleypark
Thanks! Will do David!
Isnt there a VIA maintenance station also in the Point ? MTL .
Possibly.
@@DownieLive you should try and check it out . Its huge- next to the CN shops as well. MTL is thee place to check out trains- plus you can do a vid of Amtrak or the Oceanliner, to name a few.
