HOW ELON MUSK’S STARLINK EXPOSED SAFARICOM BADLY - IKO NINI PODCAST
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 жов 2024
- In this new video of Iko Nini, Mwafreeka, and Ian talk about the difference between Starlink offers in comparison to Safaricom. Safaricom has been badly exposed for exploiting its users in terms of pricing, and convenience. They discuss how the Starlink package offers a better deal, especially for businesses, compared to Safaricom who will force the business package down's peoples throats at very high prices. They also discuss how it's expensive to make payments using Mpesa Global Pay compared to other global pays like Amazon. Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind SpaceX, is the driving force behind Starlink. This satellite internet venture aims to bridge the digital divide by providing high-speed internet to underserved areas worldwide. Through SpaceX's launch capabilities, Musk is deploying a massive constellation of satellites to make Starlink a reality

Its a convenience fee for the service. 1500 for safely transacting 43000 makes sense na tuko third world country. unless there is a better offer at hand i dont think its overcharging anything
Prepaid cards are better na kuna banks zinaoffer pre-paid card e.g. NCBA, I&M, etc.
Si watosheke na the profits wanaget.I mean they are the biggest company in Kenya . Honestly clients appreciate fairness
I love that mko na video description. Huwa nashangaa mbona huwa hamuweki and it's something that boosts video discoverability.
Also, ndio nimeanza video but juzi Global Pay tried charging me KES 140 to the dollar sa hizo dollar was exchanging at at 133 😅😅
Nilituma tu pesa kwa bank nikalipa na card.
Probably your best video iko nini. Never do business with the government.
😬😬
That depends, my goal is to eventually do business with a goverment.
FYI, Kenyatta holds around 13% stake in NCBA Group. He is the biggest shareholder there.
Ndegwa family ni 13.2%
It's funny how you are praising Safaricom for having extra features but ikifika kwa charges unakasirika. Maybe that's one of their justification for charging more. You must remember this is business sio community service 😅
Mpesa is for transactions, not making extra coins on the products being paid for. 1300+ isnt a transactional cost only
Well put
Standard chartered is not business??
@sultanilyas2565 for you and all those saying Safaricom charges more, you forget that even for calls and Mpesa, they charge more than their competitors but they always deliver their services safely and reliably. That's why ALL OF YOU have Safaricom lines and use Mpesa because you know if you relied on Airtel and Airtel money, mtajiongelesha. You have that deluded mentality of going to a kibanda to buy kahawa but you expect quality ya kahawa ya Java yet haufiki bei. Poverty mentality 😂

Business is business, akuna wizi hapa. You are free to go to alternatives.
Don't be confused about the one month free. You still need to pay the 6500/- to activate the kit. One month free means they can cancel within the first month and get fully refunded.
Exhange rates and forex charges hudiffer depending on your broker policy. Global pay hukua na upto 30% cashback-hio hujasema.
The extra charges are the Forex Charge.
But you are paying in ksh not USD. They aren’t exchanging anything
I believe you fully on Stanchart, glad someone boldly called safcom on their thievery but be ready for them attacking your line directly Mwaf. mara mpesa imehang etc
😂😂😂
have tried it in southsudan its very perfect jua hajasumbua
Starlink have a For Business Offering. For $1 Million they can set up for you an ISP service from scratch, complete with a ground station.Would make sense if remote counties come together and buy and distribute this. Iaas (Internet as a Service)
That is not the role of government. Some people in Kenya want the government to do everything. Private enterprise and individual urgency

Safaricom applies a 3.5% forex charge for processing visa payments. I don't know what the justification is for this but they're transparent about it in the terms
It’s robbery
Minus Violence 😂😂😂
That is visa fee not safaricom
Safaricom charges extra 3.5% as "Forex fee". 3.5% × 42,600 = 1,491.
Paying 499 YT premium includes 17.47 (3.5% charge) too when paid via M-PESA Card.
Juzi I paid for my SAT of 14k but paid about 15k and was wondering what's going on
How much would be okay with for example paying for the starlink?
But there is also the local Forex exchange rate. Check Paypal rates vs global rates its always different. They also have to charge you for the service. Complaint is in the high cost but biashara ne biashara.
You should get an I&m prepaid card. It's not connected to a bank account
But they've already said they markup the charges when you use that service and that's how they make money from it.
very true.. Even for small services like Netflix, iCloud+ etc... Recurrent costs aisee???..
Bana, I got the same thing bana, exact same situation, we should sue them for the behavior, walikula 1,500 ya bure
You said it. No mainstream media can talk about such a thing because they need ads. Saf Global Pay is too punitive
you realize it's expensive because you are buying dollars ? if you think it's too high why don't you go to the bank and open a dollar account?
@@KAIZORIANEMPIRE that's so stupid. You didn't watch the video
@@muhuradedan i saw the video and even his example using the bank vs mpesa is not accurate, he didn't even give reciepts lol i buy things abroad, i am from abroad lol, i know these costs
Isn't that supposed to be somewhere in their (voluntary) terms and conditions, though?
aki nyinyi... hating a house you live in...yani you are against Mpesa yet you need tokens via Mpesa
Even without Mpesa, Tokens would be payed via Bank apps, airtel money, tkash, etc.
Mpesa might have revolutionized Money Transfer, But they are stuck in that fantasy and exploiting people to the fullest. It's Not Hate Jack, We are just keeping them in check.🙏
You can offer a critique for a service you are using. You are not bound to put up with the service's deficiencies. It's a logical and helpful criticism. That's how consumers get better products.
@@PortefolioAfrica you took the words right out of my mouth! @JackSikolia it's hard to progress with that mentality!
Hi, Since last year or the year before the Government introduced some (extra) forex charges on forex transactions. The forex charge is around 3.5%. That probably explains the extra amount you were charged.
IEBC is not counting only 700 votes only but 700 multiply by 6 elections. This is being done in pressure and exhaustion after not sleeping for more than two days. There are also logistical issues since the results are not sent via online/internet but must be delivered physically at Bomas.
yeah hapo kwa saf manze some time back i checked exchange rate wanakupea against the dollar huwa iko juu than the market exchange rate....ilinikatisia sana so i just opted to use paypal
I use it every day , very swift but the charges are very high
They normally call it “inclusive of forex charge” sijawai elewa io ni ya nini and wanavuna kuvuna!
Financial Literacy is very important. Any online card payments have a commission %. Even Card payments at a supermarket have a % taken off.
Some of us actually use those cards and we know Safaricom charges extra while Stanchart to be specific doesn’t.
Just go through the videos and find out where all the mics, computers etc have been bought from anf bought through.
You will find Amazon and debit cards. No extra charge just the charge at check out 😁
@IkoNini we also live and use multiple cards to make online payments and Stanchart to be precise charges one one of the highest % due to it's security features I presume.
MPESA visa in all fairness has been the cheapest of all online payments I've utilised. And this is comparing against NCBA, stanchart, DTB, Coop, and SBM.
The marginal difference is quite negligible, and I also used it to book the same for Starlink services.
You raised valid points, but to bring the point home, it's better to have expert opinion on the panel.
transactions fees should be not be over charged to staggering amounts
I have been using starlink for 3 months now and I can tell you that it is the best.
Do you receive the Gen 3 Kit?
Do you really expect Mpesa to help you purchase an international product for free,?
Bank is transparent and cheaper than Global pay, simple
how on earth is mpesa charging over 50k to send 500k within kenya
Is that purchase cost for Starlink subjected to imports tax?
I think they have a forex charge . Plus they also bank with another bank. They aren't a bank
A work around I found was opening a USD account and you avoid extra charges. Additionally, you avoid PayPal conversion charges too. Also pick a bank that has fairy good fx rate from kes to usd.
You are right about NCBA Loop. Their extra charges for fx conversion are worse than Saf. But most of this issues started when the shilling started depreciating.
Starlink was not charging in shillings bwana, wewe mzee.
This sites they display the local currency but only accept USD in the backend.
Also keep in mind the buying Usd/kes rates are not fixed, plus the charges for forex conversion. Unfortunately they are not running a charity. And 3% rate is fair compared to alternatives. Kwanza debit card hidden bank charges wacha.
The only bad thing about globalpay is the fact that the card is prepaid and payment options like stripe won't work.
compared to using the sell rate to buy USD and send to paypal, you would be paying through the nose bwana.
Do your research.
The cost businesses have paid for example till is enough to get POS devices for all banks in the continent
So which bank do you prefer in general
Ncba prepaid card
Kindly do an unboxing video of the starlink ukiipata
Will do 😁
Saf has been a monopoly for soo Long that they treat customers how they want....
💯
I think safaricoms dollar rate is not the best. Even though starlink may quote in shillings they receive their money in dollars. That's where the disconnect is
That’s why I gave the example of how Amazon does it
I agree. A good example is ebay, when you pay on ebay you are charged 2.5% extra on conversion fees. So if the dollare rate is 130/- you'll be charged 133.25/- . The safaricom global pay is in partnership with Visa so I guess that's why.
Hey. Kama kuna mtu anatumia starlink around Nairobi, niambie. nikujie review
Uko na Starlink ama unatafuta mtu ako nayo?
Bro, loop wasn't charging anything for Account - Mpesa transfers. You may need to get some of your facts right.
Although we agree on most of your other sentiments.
But si pia Ian angebonga kiasi... ama hajui Starlink ni nini🤣😂🤣
Hawa mafala walinicharge “forex charge” kwa Spotify na Spotify inaitisha KSH 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ I hate this greedy company with a passion
Mwaf...ebu also ask why iyo CVV is supposed to change but Mimi nilibuy subscription flani online and I thought you don't have to cancel juu nilichange CVV but ilikuja ku repeat purchase that subscription even after I changed the CVV
For some cards CVV is not important. it charges once you have given them the card number
For global pay Naona ushaambiwa but I hope ushaisikia jina exchange rate, yaani we sell the dollar to you at...
so si mm pekeangu hii kitu ,they do overcharge
Exchange rate Sir, The exchange rate used by the other company is not used same as Saf. The Kenya shillings indicated by those e-commerce sites is an estimated amount using a certain exchange rate.
Starlink is charging in shillings. So does Amazon so nothing about exchange rates.
But if you’re ready to give a multi trillion shilling company your hard earned money for free then I can’t stop you 😁
Apo sawa Mwaff 😂😂
starlink is charging in usd bwana, last time I checked they are a us company.
backend itakubali usd pekee.
frontend ikupee estimate ya fixed local currency.
I gave Elon musk this idea he needs to give me shares
Safaricom charges 3.2% currency conversion into dollars , that's why it's charging extra 😂😂😂😂😂
Hii starliink watu wanabuy ajy???
What is the speed of Starlink net?

"We'd be happy for safcom to advertise with us"! Hahaha
It's a forex charge and its there on global pay...its written 3.5%. Read on the manze wacha kubash brand na ni wewe hukusoma dashboard.
That’s why I said it shouldn’t be charged. Why charge a Forex charge on a shillings transaction?
All the equipment you see us using was bought using credit cards so we know what we talking about.
Amazon accepts shillings so no need to for fires charge.
The MOST PROFITABLE company in Kenya charging extra is something to be frowned upon not for people who don’t work at Safaricom to come up with excuses that only Safcom management should
@@IkoNini It's the equivalent of a pay bill transaction charge. Note that globalpay has the lowest rates. Equity and NCBA card transactions are much higher.
Ukweli man
nini ndio nini? You always on it, acha kuingea nkama uko kwenyu
Mwaf I thought kuna kitu inaitwa transaction cost then again hio global pay wamepartner na visa card
Doesn’t justify what they do. It’s theft. You can get the same services via a bank at no extra cost
Thank you for the info
i could even agree more with all this
what about distance?
This is the disadvantage of Mpesa not being treated as a bank, they must go through another bank and both businesses must make their profit in a manner that impresses the shareholders. LMAO
They are in partnership with NCBA so 🤷🏾♂️
They call it forex charge. Very annoying indeed
Waiting for diaspora people to sponsor me😜

Safaricom Ni wezi
😬😬
boss that 16% vat + excise duty
The global pay uses a higher exchange rate for the dollar than the other services......... they should probably try and have it standard like everyone else .....the dollar is at 133 but theirs is at 140 currently
So they are making money from the exchange rate and also charging for the transaction
Can you explain why that is?
Safaricom currency exchange rate are pathetic
msee ni wewe huelewi finance. safaricom is not a bank, stanchart is. ndio maana kuko na mpesa foundation, that's the interest gained from the money you deposit in your mpesa. stanchart is different case, thats a bank. you being a customer and your money is their business. they can lend to people, businesses and other banks and EAT your interest. learn or perish
Absolutely ridiculous
The exchange rates are aslo wanting😢😢😢
Global Pay Charges 2% for every transaction
Robbery
Of which Visa will take charges of that 2%
@@IkoNini That's fair. Considering that's the only way they can make money through the service. Banks can afford to make the transactions cheaper since they're already making money lending out your money.
Using it is voluntary tho
you guys blocked me 🙂
The upload was a mess
oya Makarios
This guy is so dumb. He does not want to pay the transaction fee. Each company has its own operations costs to cover; Amazon can't be Safaricom. They charge you some money when you send or pay on Mpesa, so why not with a Global Pay card.
