when it rains, that rough road bit gets pretty muddy and have to drive through uncomfortably big puddles (5-10m) but still passable.
that annoying bug was a deer fly. super sticky feet and flat profile and they bite. annoying but not dangerous. unlike ticks.

Not really dangerous but VERY annoying. However, most of the anti-mosquito sprays will do the thing. They LOVE hairy animals :D
