Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin - Not your typical electric guitar

- A beautiful jazzbox that plays and sounds exceptionally great. It's a different beast since it feels almost exclusively as an acoustic - but the sound is very beautiful. I'm not a jazzplayer and therefor I approach the guitar a bit differently. Enjoy the demo, and feel free to leave a comment or question below.

As ever, I appreciate every single one of you - take care
As a Canadian, I'm probably a bit biased, but I believe Godin offers the best bang for the buck in the guitar market today. As always, thanks for the demo and for sharing your amazing talent. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Thank you William. I’m Danish - but I think you are right. It is great craftsmanship. And it doesn’t feel like anything else that I’ve played, in a good way. Merry Christmas to you and yours too.
Hey, I'm American, I was lucky enough to start learning guitar at a shop that sold Godins back in 2003. I've bought and sold many guitars since then, but the Godins are the ones that I buy and keep =)
Not Canadian and tend to agree. I think your bias is just being correct.
We are lucky to be Canadians and having Godin as our brand...like the British who pay super low prices for Marshall amps....we pay a heft sum. It's all about $$$....so yeah we get way more bang for buck with a Godin. A comparable Gretsch is about 3-4K
Nah, you are totally right. Godin makes amazing stuff. I love this model a lot, they released different pickup configurations too. The T armond version looks tempting haha, they also made a P rail version which makes this guitar very very versatile. Cheers!
You're doing a much better job of showing the tone of this guitar than most of the other videos I've seen
Ooo yes Totally agree. Thank you
Watching players like yourself doing something real, in their own style is WAY more informative of a guitar's tone than the generic displays of the different pickups with a clean and crunch sound. Thanks for taking the time to share your take.
Would love to see a video of how you create the drones in this video
I have listened to 0:51 like a hundred times now. Gorgeous playing!
That was thoroughly enjoyable.
@@MrRichard1280 Thanks bro!
Mighty sweet excellent soulful playing🩵✨✨
I absolutely love my Kingpin!
Yeah, me too..
Gorgeous, thank you for posting - playing. You are truly inspiring. Am a country musician with a Godin 5th Ave. Thanks again...
Chris, your videos show unfailing taste and talent. I often play them throughout the day. They weave a lot of colors around our home. And they've helped my kids discover their own love of music. Thanks for sharing your gifts.
It really warms my heart to hear that. Thank you so much for sharing this with me, it moved me a lot.
Dude. You're guitar playing is fantastic. I agree with another guy saying that you should release your own instrumental work. I'm just weeks away from releasing my own. Took awhile to get to this point, but it's worth it!
Thanks man! And I huge congrats with your future release!. I think I struggle a bit with my self worth, and therefor tend to not pursue my dreams. I appreciate your faith in me man.
Great playing, really enjoyed you demo. One of the few demo's to show the true versatility of the guitar, and crushing the myth that the Kingpin II is just a jazz box.
You're playing is brilliant, sweet, and tasteful. Your touch is magnificent. Wish I had 3 hours of this! Well done.
Wow thanks Dale!
@@ChrisEffort No, thank you.
Absolutely love your content. I found your channel through an Eastman search. Stellar guitar player you are. Hope you release your own instrumental album or EP. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much TWC - it’s definitely a dream of mine to release an instrumental album or EP in the future.
Beautiful guitar and beautiful playing!
That guitar sounds amazing. I’m no jazz player and I wouldn’t use it for that. But I think people get to hung up on that stuff. Experimenting and exploring sounds to express emotions is what music is. If a guitar is designed to play jazz, but you can express your emotions and create the sound that fits by playing country, southern rock, blues, metal or whatever, then it’s genius!
2:39 to 3:44 is where it's at, dude. All players know what this is about. Best to you. Glory in resonance and reverence.
Thank you! Appreciate it
Absolutely beautifully playing. Thank you.
I have had a Godin Artisan St a super strat since 1990. Last year I treated myself to a Godin 5th Avenue KingPin with a single P.90. I am well pleased. it's an absolutely beautiful instrument. I love it. Although I have and have had other brands such as Gibson and Fender etc I think Godin make amazing guitars and by far are my favourite.
I have 3 Godin guitars (including this one) ... and I LOVE them all!! Lifetime keepers. Gorgeous playing, mate!
Amazing playing, note choice and feel! I could listen to you all day!! Thankssssss
Been on the fence with this one because I’m not a typical jazz player either. It’s great to hear this style. Thanks
Thanks so much man!
I really enjoyed your review and how you took the road-less-traveled approach with this style of guitar. Too often hollow-bodies get pigeon-holed as only "jazz guitars," but they are capable of so much more. I love the sound of electric guitars but the feel of acoustics. Guitars like this are the best of both worlds. Great job, man!
Appreciate it brother!
Great groove. Great tone. Awesome job .
Best demo I've seen of this guitar so far. I want to play blues, and other stuff -- but not smooth jazz. Virtually all videos I've seen of this guitar, people are playing smooth jazz. As if that's all the guitar is good for. I have a Kingpin II. Have not had the chance to plug her in much, yet. Neighbors.
Anyway, was looking for inspiration. So thanks!
Thanks man, I appreciate it! The guitar is definitely capable of doing so much more than jazz. I usually use Ernie Regular slinky’s on all my guitars.
It’s very likely that this will be the third guitar you sold me on 😅
I absolutely love your playing and it would be such a gift if you would release new vids at some point. You‘re awesome!
Looking forward to it
You are a hell of a player, sold me on this! Thanks
Love what you do with this beautiful guitar for such a great price.
Godin makes superb guitars. I own a few of them. Their 5th Avenue line is absolutely gorgeous. My favourite is the one with 2 humbuckers
Godin sticks out among the rest, broad both in looks and in-sound. It is truly its own avenue. Chris, you can make a stick with strings sound good. Thanks for the magic bro
Haha I don’t know about that, but thank you brother. Incredibly kind of you to say that.
Great tones and dig the Bill Frisell vibe!
Nice work...guitar is a revelation in terms of the breadth of it's scope...playing is first class too! Really great job - made my day!
Thank you. You made my day too!
Sounds amazing......looks amazing too. super sweet tone.....
I don't think I've ever added a comment to a video I like.....but this is outstanding. The comment about releasing an instrumental album - YES PLEASE! Very inspirational playing. Now where's my guitar?!
Thank you Eric, sincerely! I’d love to make an album or EP in the future, I just need to save up to get the funds.
Beautiful tone lovely playing lots of feel
Just beautiful. 👏👏👏
Really enjoyed listening to this tonight here in Australia. Please keep them coming ❤🔥👍🇦🇺
I’m very grateful you enjoyed it, thank you. Greetings from Denmark
Chris, like you, I am not a Jazz focused guitarist. I just picked up one of these, based on playing one and this video of yours. As someone else said, your chops are real and much appreciated.
Now if I can approximate that same tone ... with a Fender Tone Master Pro ... 🙂
Thank you so much Mike, it means a lot!
Thanks for demoing it with a touch of crunchy sound. All the reviews over there are more about a jazz kind of sound
Thank you very much!
It's a beautiful guitar and you make it sound wonderful.
Amazing tone and melody. Bravo! Greetings from Italy
Thanks man!
awesome sound
Beautiful playing!
Beautiful playing! I see why you go to the middle position, the p90s sound incredible but that hum is crazy.
Thank you JT! Yeah P90s are pretty noisy - but man I like em.
The piece starting at 2:40 was particularly beautiful.
Please release a full version of the third tune ❤
I due P90 abbinati:suono magnifico!
Beautiful playing, I watched this because I'm planning on purchasing this guitar. This video sealed the deal. Perhaps you know my dear friend there Claus Weiergang..? BTW you should make a CD or vinyl record. Fantastic!
Hi, it's one of the best demonstrations of Godin 5th avenue! What strings are you using? Electric or acoustic , what gage?
Thank you very much sir! I use 11’s - electric strings.
Amazing sound
I just purchased a Left Handed one. Beautiful Guitar 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Congrats! How do you like it?
Can’t stop listening to this it’s so good. 1 question, in reading the signal chain, are you plugging into the amp first and using the line out to the pedals?
Love your style
Great and help full test. Play and sound amazing
Thanks man! I really appreciate that
If these are your own compositions, you should transcribe and sell them. I'd buy them. Great solo pieces!
Dude you made her sing sold buying one next month
2:38 - 3:40 my fav part. Great Melodies and playing. just the right notes :)
Thank you so much
Well done
Beautiful playing, as always
Thank you very much Michael
Nice playing.
Very nice man!
I had one of those. Mine came with heavy jazz strings and for some reason I never tried it with a lighter set. Always sounded great but was a bit of a chore with the cables.
Hi Chris - do you recall of you used the stock strings in these transcendent demos? I'm having a bit of old-man-hand on the 12's
Great video….love the melodic and warm tones your are playing throughout. I’m thinking of getting one of these for the simplicity and clean feel.
Thanks man!
You play real music.❤ guitar is also good 😊
Music and acoustics aside...5th ave is such a good looking guitar
Thanks!
Thank you!!!
What kind of strings do you have on her?
I see ( and hear) the humbuckers they sound so articulate, wondering if you have ever tried this model with the P90's and your thoughts on the P90 version, beautiful playing thanks for sharing with us all. Peace !
Thank you for your kind words. This is actually the P90 version, but I haven’t tried the version with the humbuckers, the P90’s have a very hot output - without having measured them - but they were driving my amp fairly quickly. Awesome guitar nonetheless :-)
oh wow I thought it was the humbucker model, you have it dialed in perfectly then, I have the P90 version too and if I set the tone dial past about 3 it gets very "spiky" which was not the case at all in this vid, Peace ! @@ChrisEffort
Great sounding guitar. Wish they made these in a lefty version.
Yeah, it’s a bit weird why they don’t. It’s a fun guitar!
so inspiring, man 😪
Send this to Godin
Real nice melodic style and tone, Chris. Is there much hum with these pick ups?
Thanks Joe, yeah the pickups are quite noisy, I would find one with humbuckers if I was buying one today.
Definitely some mark Knopfler influence
What model of guitar is this? Don't know if it's you playing or this guitar sounds perfect? :)
Ps. Im glad you are playing it like i would
Not jazzy
Thanks Scott! I appreciate it
Inspirational play Chris, thank you. What strings / gauge are you using on it ?
Thank you Dan. I’m using round wounds 11’s.
Very nice tone and playing...which amp was used? thanks, Maro, Croatia
I used a Fender Tonemaster deluxe
@@ChrisEffort thanks!
Wonderful rendering.. What strings do you use ?
Cool demo. I want to like Godin’s stuff but something aesthetically always seems to be off for me personally.
Thanks Moosey. It’s kind of it’s own thing. I’m not into their solid body designs though. But I like this model a lot. It has the mojo.
This model is actually based off the 1950s gibson es 130, its pretty much almost identical. I do agree on some other models though. I have a godin acoustic (seagull s6 specifically) that has a weird shape, I did not like it in the start but once I played it I fell in love. Been next to my bed ever since lol. Still looks weird
@@morganscott8535 You know what my main objection to the aesthetics of this one is? The font. So bad.My eyes hurt looking at it. Lol!
Hey ! Do you play on accoustic strings ? Nice video !
These are Ernie regular slinky’s
The Godin Family makes nice guitars. They also give exactly zero fucks if you disagree, or even if you have some polite suggestions on how to improve things, which I find delightful :) Heres hoping Godin stays small and keeps it a family operation into the next couple generations. For reasons unknown these re-sell at a great price so if you see one locally, grab it.
Even if you dont play guitar you can use them to shoo Canadians.
Greatsound, what amp are you plugged into!?
Thanks Felix. It’s just the IR from the Fender Tone master deluxe.
Dig the tremolo
Do more please! Appriciate the demo of this guitar. Could the strumminsound saund a bit acustic?
Thanks man! Yeah it does have a decently loud acoustic sound - but there can be a lot of sympathetic sounds/noises from the trapeze, so have that in mind. It’s not a particularly nice acoustic sound, but I suppose it could work very well in the right mix.
Do you have songs on spotify?
Hi Niels
I have a single song on Spotify thats called ‘Little Farmer’ under my real name Christoffer Lunøe. I would love to release more songs in the future. Thanks for your interest
