Couldn't agree more. I loved the screen aspect ratio and form factor of the Surface Pro X, but it's performance was garbage so I got the Surface Pro 7. Was really excited to hear about this Dell, then I saw the prices. It's a hard pass Dell. No thanks

IPad Pro’s sell for even more.
At least these have a real computer operating system and with Windows 11 should allow for Apps designed for tablets to flourish on Windows tablets..also this still can act as a laptop.

***UPDATE** Apparently the SSD and Wi-Fi are serviceable by the user but I did not open this up to find out. I will talk more about this in the full review. Access begins under the kickstand by removing the Philips head screws. Stay tuned..

How can I get some confirmation on the ram being serviceable? Specifically being able to add above 16gb would be nice. That is kind of amazing on this form factor if all three are upgradeable.

    •  3 роки тому +1

Another update Andrew, the RAM IS NOT user upgradable. SSD and WIFI are.
By the way, great review. I'm knocking my head because I like this a lot, but the Lenovo X12 is just about 1000 dollars cheaper for essentially the same.

Lenovo's x12 includes the keyboard and a "basic stylus" that doesn't have tilt or magnets to stick to the side, but it works fine and the "premium" one with magnets and tilt is only 40 bucks.
And based on my owning a surface before the x12, the Lenovo keyboard blows it out of the water to boot.

Love the form factor. Good options in this. Seems superior to SP7+. This is the ideal form factor for me.
What is total weight (tablet-screen + keyboard and pen)? It is not clear from dell website with "starting weight".
I do think your reviews are more thorough and clear on all points than most other reviewers with tech spec cheat sheet and final pros-cons "P&L" summary as well as various "in use demonstrations" as well - and comparison to similar other models too... Really appreciated.
Agree if investing a 4G/5G future proof would be good for next few years.

A really beautiful device with nice performance. However, my incurable multitasking and need for multiple screens would be an issue here - it wouldn't be possible to attach a secondary monitor (or two) to it. I do love the lightness of the unit, though I do think that ideally the extras should've been in the box. That, I think, is where ASUS and HP are doing better than Dell - value addition. Keep up the awesome work, Andrew

I bought the x12 largely on your review, since I really needed a new surface but wanted an 11th gen processor with iris and the better battery life. Would be curious to see a comparison between all three, but seeing as the Lenovo comes with a pen and keyboard and with Lenovo's stupid "always a sale" pricing, came out to be $1500 shipped for their top of the line i7 1180, 16gb ram and 1tb ssd, along with the "better" pen that has tilt, a button, and magnetically sticks to the chassis.
I love the way Lenovo put their own Thinkpad touches on the x12, including the keyboard (crap FN/Ctrl button swap aside) and the way the keyboard holds closed magnetically.
The dell looks like a much more "warts and all" clone of the surface, including the steep price, refusal to just include a pen and keyboard, and limited I/o. The only gripe I have with the x12 other than the FN key placement is the Wacom interface is not the same as Microsoft's, so I can't use my absolute favorite aftermarket stylus, and the options are EXTREMELY limited.
Does the pen have tilt functionality?

Andrew, very detailed first look, as always. Need your suggestion on one thing. Lenovo is running a huge sale now and ThinkPad X12 with i5-1130G7, 16gb ram, 512gb SSD, IR with human presence detection and 4G LTE+eSim at just $1165 and without 4G, at just $1059. Dell Latitude 7320D with 16GB and LTE (which are mandatory IMO) is $2,560 USD. The choice should be obvious.
Honestly, I think HP Elite X2 is the best tablet if you absolutely need Thunderbolt, but Thinkpad X12 is the best bang for buck for that price.
Personally though I would pick the SP7+ just because of better Screen, Speakers, and Battery Life over the X12, and I don't use the Thunderbolt port.

One crucial design factor to me for these devices is the lowest weight possible. I think once this happens and in tandem with price:performance ratio being superior, they will become more popular than laptops.
Being able to use a competent device anywhere is so useful. Phone screens I find too small also so I really dislike using phones.
Low weight being in my backpack makes a huge difference (eg x days per years for total time carrying).

Vey nice PC for someone who has recently won the lottery. This PC is very pricey. Should have included the keyboard and pen for this price. The display is excellent and the webcam is very good. The mic in this sounded very clear. The other camera is also very good. Even though the machine has a slightly lower speed processor it is still very fast and will meet most users demands easily especially when traveling. For fun I went on their website and looked at the delivery dates. You would probably receive this machine if ordered in about a week unlike the HP you recently reviewed. Excellent "first looks"review.

Yeah, this is expensive for sure. Hopefully we will see sales soon.

When compared to the Surface Pro 7, it may not be that bad. With the Surface Pro 7, at work, we have a have two chargers, a light-weight charger for travel, and the larger "brick" so we can connect our dual monitors while in the office. Based upon the review, the monitors can connect directly to the computer. I am not sure if the ports would withstand frequent plugging and un-plugging
The other components for the Surface are not cheap either (keyboard, mouse, stylus). I've lost my stylus more than once so I definitely like the way the Dell Detachable stores its stylus.
Bottomline, be sure to look at the total cost of the systems before deciding.

Nope, it cannot be used wirelessly and does not have it's own battery (uses tablet power).

Why do people make windows convertible devices and Noy include the keyboard case? Windows still needs a m+k to be useable. Touch is terrible on windows if you have to use it for everything. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Dell telling this stylus pen is the worlds fastest recharging pen.. and its 30 s for full..
Lol.. samsung spen no need charge to write.. just for bluetooth functions.. thats also just put it in charge slot then just remove that now it fully charged..

Not on the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 as there is no place to store the pen.

      @mariathasanmariathasan3163 3 роки тому

@@andrewmarcdavid yes.. not in galaxy book pro 360.. because it does not have Bluetooth function.. also its spen is big so samsung cant make slot in that slim laptop.. but samsung has magnetic in top of the lap so we can just hold s pen in not using laptop.. but in book flex it has small spen so it has slot.. its all in our preferences.

    • @mariathasanmariathasan3163
      @mariathasanmariathasan3163 3 роки тому

@@andrewmarcdavid And also i have a question.. samsung galaxy book pro 360 2 in 1 laptop is 1500 dollar and it has 11gen i7, 16 gb ram , 1tb ssd 15 inch full hd super amoled display.
This dell 13 inch detachable is 2539 dollar for same configurations if we want And we have to buy keboard 200 dollar and 70 dollar stylus pen separately .. what the hack.
I know that samsung galaxy book pro web cam worst and display brightness is 300 nits that is lower compare to this 500 nits.. but compare with super amoled 15 inch screen vs this 13 inch screen with big bessel
So why we need this detachable laptop for 2539 dollar compare to 1500 dollar samsung or also going with hp 360 is so much better

Actually the Surface devices are a reference design created by Microsoft for OEMS, including Dell among others to create Surface like devices. This is exactly what Microsoft intended when it introduced the Surface line.
