You sir are a mastermind of UA-cam. You have been building a great foundation here. You have discovered a huge niche of simply 'being real' and telling stories. You understand what topics and titles to use, for current issues like AI. I made a video about "Will AI take your job?" 8 months ago and some jobs certainly have gone in that direction now.

yeah it's a good biz to be in right now actually. I train two officially licensed tour guides here in Kyushu.
It's been popping ever since covid has ended, and both have had to put our class on the backburner due to the overdemand. They get access to most public facilities for free, they get the bigger and better jobs that the govt won't entrust to anyone without the proper licensing, such as guiding vips and celebs, taking people arriving on cruises around Nagasaki and such.
Tbh I don't think the base pay is all that and a bag of potatoes (outrageous for how notoriously difficult it is to get the license) but tipping is allowed and the work comes with a lot of variety and perks. That said, I doubt he'd earn more than he currently gets.

You could make very good money especially because the Japanese yen is weakening so Japan is becoming more accessible (we're Australian so the weakening yen makes AUD go much further in Japan). There would be a huge market for it. Plus you will get to meet lots of new people if you do this!

So the best thing to do, in my humble opinion, would be to take all your life experience, and however little free time you have, and start some small scale own business, as a part time hobby. A small website selling something, a small virtual consultation company, anything really, even if it just barely brings any income at all. Be your own boss at least few hours per week.

Dollar Milkshake theory: The USD will destroy many foreign economies, not just Japan's.
The "Dollar Milkshake Theory" is a concept popularized by Brent Johnson, CEO of Santiago Capital, which offers a unique perspective on the future dynamics of the global financial system, particularly the role of the U.S. dollar. The theory posits that despite the United States' significant monetary easing and fiscal deficits, the U.S. dollar will strengthen significantly relative to other currencies. This strengthening will occur because, in a crisis, global capital flows into the dollar as a safe haven, effectively "sucking" capital from the rest of the world-like a straw in a milkshake.

I'm in the backend software field and deal with A.I myself so I'd say the best thing to do is find a position unaffected by machine learning or implement machine learning in a way that boost your own productivity but highlight your skills that cannot be replaced to showcase your company can't get rid of you so easily. I myself had to get away from front-end development because that was menial enough to be done by A.I but the machine learning is not intelligent enough to do data structures themselves. This is just like when cotton workers were replaced by cotton-gin and sewing machines in America long ago, people just became sewing machine operators instead of doing it by hand.

There also need to be people that understand how and why code works in order to use the AI to build the code. Also, humans are making a logical error in thinking that AI is going to get so much better so fast. Yes there was a huge breakthrough with LLMs in the last few years, but that took years and years to develop. It’s fallacious to assume that AI is going to keep getting better like that in a linear or exponential fashion.

yes, "customer service" careers will never die, jobs dealing with people will never be replaced by AI. Most "white collar" jobs will have the biggest risk come AI's maturity. Even some doctors will be replaced (or displaced aka have to spread out to find work). This will be the biggest challenge for intellectual careers most likely. These people get paid the most now and is the most lucrative for employers to replace them with AI. Just a matter of time professors are replaced by AI, if you published a book and is digitized, AI will learn its content and analyse it faster than the speed of light. I'm just hoping I can retire by the time that happens, hopefully doesn't happen soon.

As someone who has a penchant for writing, I like the whole process of coming up with an idea, and formulating the content/article, editing, and the countless revisions and rereading that I have to do until I'm satisfied with my own work, as it is with my published articles. I find that AI-written contents, as shown in the examples I've read, and also based on comments by other people on forums about ChatGPT, are quite bland, and lack personal style, wit, or soul to it. And I find it funny when some people proudly come up with an article written by an AI. Maybe it is useful in other areas, especially when those using it are still learning how to write, it can be quite a good tool to improve one's general grammar, and vocabulary. But writing is an art form, and if it's not done by a human being, then it's not an art that can be credited to that person who formulated it. That being said, I have nothing against AI which is created to make work/life a lot easier in a fast-paced, and only getting faster society as a result of technological advancement, but I'd like to look at it as an AI assistant that helps humans with primarily spelling and grammar, and not the other way around because that would be funny, and completely dumb if AI is in control over a human being lol.

I'm a technical Japanese to English translator at a large company in Japan. ChatGPT and other AI translation software is not at the point where it will take my job yet. AI software is a big security risk because of the possibility of it leaking sensitive data. It also cannot understand the context of the text or see the relationship between the text and things like images, charts, and diagrams. Sometimes it decides to insert random numbers and letters into sentences which makes checking documents a nightmare. If it ever gets to the point where it will take my job, then it will also render management useless, too. If you're a manager looking to use AI to make a quick profit, just take a minute to think that once AI takes over your employees, then you are no-longer required either.

Evidently AI will take over many jobs and so many of us become redundant and unemployed. Thus that seems a good idea to see if we can synchronise our efforts with AI related jobs. However, the other alternative is to look for professions and jobs that AI is not capable to do yet. The kind of jobs that need lots of handiwork, like cooking, gardening, plumbing, etc. Although we need to be aware that Robotics is speeding up as well. Frankly we don't have much chances nor alternatives to change things and we need to plan well and work harder to secure a better life for our retirement.

Computer centric and digitally dependent jobs are becoming far less sought after with the rise of AI tools. I work in computers and strongly believe that the bulk of the work that I will be expected to do in the coming years will be hardware and physical repair/installation work. So much of what is either software assisted or digitally dependent is being funneled into AI in order to save time and or money.

I think with music it's almost worse because we've adjusted to the idea that people use things like autotune to change their voices. Even the deepfake AI of people talking has gotten good enough I can't normally tell at first glance. I do think that with AI, we're still going to need people to make sure things are accurate, but those jobs won't pay near as well. Maybe you can find me extra work in Japan and I can try to find you work here. Us oldies are staring at a crazy future.

It was really curious how people thought that language-related jobs would not be replaced any time soon by computers. I mean, Artificial Neural Networks were already a thing many years ago, but with the Transformer concept, it scaled to this really weird technology that can imitate intelligence to the point that it is, in many ways, truly intelligent. I'm not sure what kind of breakthroughs AI companies might come up with, but lately, I've seen some things that made me realize that right now, people have too high expectations and that perhaps there's a wall in front of us soon. Also, I still think that you cannot simply delegate all existential issues to a technology monopolized by corporations. I believe that many aspects of our lives haven't been addressed because corporations have taken control of them, and this may be the gate to open that door to many other aspects of our life. I've seen and believe more in ordinary people who strive for goodness and keep thinking for themselves. Greetings and Thanks for the video!

Auto regressive prediction models aren't intelligent. They are glorified auto complete tied to noise for variable output. Companies like OpenAI have done a great job at fooling investors and the public that it's real intelligence, but that couldn't be further from the case. AGI won't arrive for a good several decades, unfortunately every manager and CEOs now thinks that AI can do another persons job for free. I guess doing a job well doesn't matter when zero competition exist because every startup is running out of that sweet venture capital money.

Right now, AI can also create realistic backgrounds and videos of people talking...in fact, you cannot tell that the person talking in the video is AI or real. It is that good. So, this also means that newscasters, actors and vloggers can be replaced by AI. You already have hololive or anime style streamers...but this is where someone can make instant movies with realistic looking actors and backgrounds but it is ALL generated by AI. However, evenso, as a human, I prefer to watch what I assume is a real human. I newly subbed to your channel. You can probably do consultations for business and editing of materials that have been translated by ChatGPT. Or, if you can figure out a problem to solve, people will pay you for solving that problem. For example, in Japan, I wonder if there is a problem with population growth and therefore more and more people are aging. A major issue then is who will end up caring for elderly people? There doesn't seem to be enough people to sustain the system. So, my understanding is that Japan is trying to increase the use of robotics and self sufficient stores and hotels. Trying to make robots for elder care and companionship. I guess robotics is a rising work area? But, I think most people would prefer real people, maybe? So, is there some manner you can address that situation? There was one business in Japan which rents families or grandmas or husbands or whatever family you need. It seems to be addressing that sometimes people need to have someone available for social situations but they are isolated or lonely or can't talk to their real family. Then there is something called "Evergreen" jobs...these jobs will always be necessary. The care and disposing of the dead, healthcare, water cleaning, elder care, food....in many ways, those can be taken over by AI or robots. In production, robots are becoming more used and so less workers are needed. But they still need some to handle the robots. Healthcare? More and more robots and being used so maybe eventually doctors will be replaced. Phone sales will be taken over by AI. Even marketing strategies can probably be done by AI but still I think most humans wish to handle transactions and deals between people. I wonder if you are noticing in marketing and business if this is still true?

    • @synthdream

Japan can afford the infrastructure for that because their cities aren't drowning in debt from low density housing developments. Every square meter (or acre) of gas, sewage, internet, and electricity needs to be maintained from a portion of the taxes of those who live in the area. They also need to help pay for services (like police and fire department). When you do the math, all American suburbs are in the negatives, which neighboring cities have to help subsidize. Now those cities can't afford to add more services, and are forced to crumble along with the suburbs they're helping.
You would think the local governments would build higher density housing, and allow for small businesses to be built next to houses to increase the tax revenue per acre right?? Nope, they instead build more suburbs and use those funds from the new suburbs to finance the maintenance of the old suburbs, because if they build higher density housing it would lower the prices of real estate in the area which makes rich people not happy since their net-worth and investments are tied to those prices.
I wonder which ones they'll run out of first, space or money, I guess we'll just have to see.

Be a personal tour guide for people visiting Japan. I want to go, but Japan is an intimidating country to visit, most people there only speak Japanese.

I'm a senior level programmer. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but this is what I see. I think AI and robotics has the potential to replace 99% of jobs in the physical and digital space. Some people like to argue that the quality of AI will never beat the quality of humans but I disagree. Like you said in the video, voice AI started off bad but is getting better, and I believe that it won't stop at good, it will become perfect and then go even further.
What people who write-off AI like to say is that there will be some sort of wall it hits and that it will plateau, but these people fail to see potential. We can keep improving AI forever. Even if we hit a wall with AI, we will eventually overcome it. People also say that AI is just another technology and that it will create new jobs. I do not believe that to be completely true. If AI takes away jobs, whatever jobs generated from it can also be replaced by AI. This isn't a technology, this is an evolving thing that will keep growing and keep adapting and keep learning. Any current and future jobs that we can do, we can teach AI to do it.
So once AI and robotics gets to a point where humans are no longer necessary to generate profits, what is going to happen to the world? We live in a system where we trade our time and skills to get money for things we want. If robots and AI replace most of the jobs, then society has to change or else 99% of us will be poor and useless. Society would have to change to no longer be based only on what generates profit but on something that can only be strictly human.
In any case, I don't think we have enough information to really try to be proactive about this. I think we should just hold on to our current jobs and hope that whatever happens in the future is not bad for us lol. I personally hope that AI plateaus in our lifetimes and that we don't have any breakthroughs until after I die lol.

one thing people forget is... it doesnt have to be perfect... it just needs to be better than you. :( that's enough for companies to pile into it.

Most governments will only let it go so far. Can't collect taxes from people if they can't make money. The elites know legal loopholes to prevent them from paying that money. Big Daddy government doesn't like it when people mess with his money. It will plateau. The question is will it be willingly or by force? If it's by force the common man will happily help governments do it. They know they have more to gain.

Those robot companies (agility, boston dynamics, apptronic, etc) won't have enough venture capital to stay funded when the wall is hit. They will be useful, but the rate of improvement will be closer to that of today's smartphones at best (maybe worse). Sure things like mobile aloha are surprising, and simulated environments through applications like omniverse work well for zero-shot real world performance; but the amount of edge cases that keep popping up verses the amount of capital needed to overcome them to reach the threshold for mass consumer and corporate adoption is signaling that things aren't looking too good. Corners are continuously being cut, as programmers and engineers are being more overworked. The supply of quality talent to work on those edge cases isn't a large pool to choose from, and the capital needed to keep them employed where they're all located isn't what the venture capitalist are willing to put into the startup. Which leaves a lot of this innovation to be done by large companies who would likely patent it to hell, or lose stockholder confidence and have their workforce cut in half from a round of layoffs. The current and near future economic climate doesn't allow for the current rate of cash burning to end in a usable product, and having humans constantly on site to intervene when there is a problem will cost more than the human and a bit of corporate housing.
Unless a new better architecture is built, I don't see auto regressive models actually getting us to the future that is envisioned.
