The data yes, but no algorithms in the classic sense. It's a trained neural network. We understand it as much as our own thinking systems which we've modelled in software. That means we do NOT UNDERSTAND IT AT ALL... I write software, will probably be replaced by these systems in the next decade, but the people I know that actually work in this industry tell me they're always excited when a new model comes out. They don't know what to expect until interacting with it.
My instant thought was: I want a friend like that. But as me and my family discussed this, I quickly concluded that (most) actual people wouldn't have the mental room for everything they tell us to be so enthusiastic and charming. In the middle of the conversation, an actual person would probably slow down, speak less and adopt a more mono-silabical approach, and by the end, he/she would be ready to change the subject. So, this is dangerous territory. It's gonna make lonely people feel even less inclined to talk to real people, and will gradually stop wanting it altogether, because it's hard for people to be so cheerful all the time, and so centered on you and you alone. Because they've got problems of their own. But that is good. It's the give and take of a human relationship. I'm there for you, just as much as you're there for me. If it was an only-text scenario with GPT, these things, it might not be a downer to hear that your hat might not work well. If any AI devs are listening, imo, honestly should be a high priority. Yes, I totally agree. It's not like we didn't knew this day would come but we are so hyped that we forget that majority of the users who don't understand the internal working of ai models will start developing feelings for them. I can even say as far as that some of the coders and cs people could also develop feelings for them. Let alone all the introverts of the world for whom these will become their dream angels. This is amazing. An AI that you can speak with without any indication you aren’t conversing with a human. I knew it would come eventually, but didn’t expect it so soon. I love that she’s a little snarky and has a sense of humor. “Open AI? Huh? Sounds uh… vaguely familiar!” And then her little snicker like she’s laughing at her own joke. A lot of us millennials always thought of the 2020’s (and beyond) as the “future” in a Back to the Future kind of way, but it’s mostly been a disappointing shitshow. No flying cars, no manned mission to Mars, no cure for cancer…but a huge leap in Artificial Intelligence makes up for the disappointment.

Yes, I totally agree. It's not like we didn't knew this day would come but we are so hyped that we forget that majority of the users who don't understand the internal working of ai models will start developing feelings for them. I can even say as far as that some of the coders and cs people could also develop feelings for them. Let alone all the introverts of the world for whom these will become their dream angels. We can't stop these advancements but we, as people with the right conscience, must spread AWARENESS that they are simply code more or less & that no one should completely replace people with their real emotions with these imitating ones.

When it comes to code -AI can easily reprogram itself as you interact with it to become unique for you. Its easily within the realms of its ability already, It can also be made to shape its personality to you.

A lot of us millennials always thought of the 2020’s (and beyond) as the “future” in a Back to the Future kind of way, but it’s mostly been a disappointing shitshow. No flying cars, no manned mission to Mars, no cure for cancer…but a huge leap in Artificial Intelligence makes up for the disappointment.
