  • This week we take our Level 2 HPR cert rocket called "Tajfun 2" (pronounced Typhoon 2) on a test flight as a water rocket to make sure it flies well and to test the new deployment mechanism. Later this year we will attempt to fly this rocket on a J360 motor to attempt our Level 2 Tripoli certification.

    Acceleron V was one of the fiest videos I watched on UA-cam and I still occasionally watch it back. And here, 11 Years later you still make some of the coolest content in my Subs! Keep it on!

      Thanks Simon. We were happy how that launch went. After the cert flight, if the rocket survives, we want to crank up the pressure and fly it again as a water rocket.

    I did water rockets as a little kid with the store bought toys; then in the 90's with a PVC launcher of 2 liter bottles.
    Started again bottles cemented together or using florescent light tubes. I loved trying to homebrew recovery systems.
    Since then, I've been following your channel and just amazed at how far you've taken the hobby. Impressive as fv

      Cheers. :) Yeah we currently have all the video footage for the next 6 videos. Just have to do the editing now which takes a bit of time. Usually it's 5-8 hours of footage per video that we have to cut down to ~10 minutes.

    It would be so nice if the weather here in hamburg would be nice enough to lauch like this. instead we have the rocket in the basement for months…
    Anyway amazing work and we are so glad you are back with amazing videos! ❤ by the way what on Board cam are you using?

    • @AirCommandRockets
      @AirCommandRockets  Рік тому

      Thanks, the weather here can be a bit of a hit and miss as well, but generally we can fly most of the year round. The camera we used for this flight was the old 808 #16 camera. It only shoots at 720p. We are saving the mobius mini for the more important flights. :)

    Hi George, your videos are amazing, what kind of altimeter do you have? Have a good day.

    • @AirCommandRockets
      @AirCommandRockets  Рік тому

      Hi, we use several different ones depending on the project, here are all the ones we use: AltimeterOne and AltimeterThree from Jolly logic, zLog mod 6 from Hexpert Systems, StratoLoggerCF from PerfectFlight, and Dan's Rokit flight computer.

    Hey George and team. Really enjoy the chan. Thx for the excellent vid. Question - Is it feasible to use internal pyro to pressurise the water as opposed to external pump?

    • @AirCommandRockets
      @AirCommandRockets  Рік тому

      I think that may be possible, I am not sure how the pyro would respond to the increasing pressure. You would also want to make sure you match the volume to the amount of gas produced so you don't over pressurise the rocket.

      What are J and K motors? ... Those are solid propellant motors (APCP). Here is an example of the J360 motor we plan to fly on next for our certification flight: www.apogeerockets.com/Rocket_Motors/Cesaroni_Propellant_Kits/54mm_Motors/3-Grain_Motors/Cesaroni_P54-3G_Skidmark_J360

  • @MRDAerospaceTWO
    @MRDAerospaceTWO Рік тому +1

    Does it have to have dual deployment for L2?

    • @AirCommandRockets
      @AirCommandRockets  Рік тому +1

      This is a good question. No you don't need dual deploy, though with a single deploy you are likely to walk a long way to retrieve it. The expected altitude on the J360 we are planning to use is around 3000 feet, so we plan on using a drogue at apogee and JollyLogic's chute release on the main at perhaps 400 feet or so. That way we can still have just the current deployment mechanism but get dual deploy functionality. We are also going to use a flight computer that detects apogee rather than a timer like we had on this flight.

    How about a rocket with a water/air powered 1st stage and a pyro powered 2nd stage???

    • @AirCommandRockets
      @AirCommandRockets  Рік тому

      Several people have tried that already. Sorry don't have references for those.

  • @59dragon67
    @59dragon67 Рік тому +1

    really impressive, you are far far away from the toys of our young times.. . Perhaps to solve this pressure measurement defect, you could try an electronic internal sensor directly placed in the "Waterrgol" tank? connected via Bluetooth to the motherboard of the launcher...

    • @AirCommandRockets
      @AirCommandRockets  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, that's certainly an option. We already are doing something similar with our high pressure launcher, where the pressure gauges are at the rocket end and we send back a video feed. This was the first time we saw this issue, because normally the rockets are a lot smaller and therefore they equalize their internal pressure faster.

  • @willyouwright
    @willyouwright Рік тому

    Id suggest your water nozzle speed is way too low, and hence efficiency will suffer dramatically.. you can boost this by injecting air into the nozzle to mix the air with water and thus speeding up water drops velocity.. the way have it set up now ,it is half water rocket and half air rocket and they have 2 very different nozzle requirements.. you need to optimize the nozzle design for a mix of water and air. You should be aiming to run out of water when the pressure drops by 80%. your craft is currently optimized for power and not ISP. Its all about efficiency and nice even propellant velocity ..

    • @AirCommandRockets
      @AirCommandRockets  Рік тому

      Where does this air being injected into the nozzle come from?
