Wow. Am I understanding this correctly? This was your FIRST flight... going for a Level 1 cert... with a custom build... on a freaking "I" engine??? Nice flight, and congrats on that accomplishment. Wish I had a field like that.
Haha. Thank you. You could say that the pandemic left me with a lot more time on my hands to research and take my time with it. This desert spot is about 90 minutes away, so yeah, it's fortunate to have this club too that meets here.
How inspiring! Somehow started binging rocketry videos and most seem to have been born with rockets in their hands and doing that stuff all their lives. Maybe you have too idk, just fun to see a wider crowd climing these ladders, maybe I'll join you some day. Big congrats on the L1 super happy for you!
Thanks. Happy you liked it. Well, I did shoot off those little Estes rockets back in cub scouts, haha, but didn't do anything until my brother-in-law got me this kit during the pandemic. Yes, it would be awesome if you join one day .. the more the merrier! Just get started and get your feet wet!
I enjoyed this video quite a lot, it was shot and edited really well! (Film experience?) I would love to see more of this journey, I am aspiring to get my own L1 cert someday. I would also love to see more about the designing and building a rocket from y'all (there are a lot of videos out there already but I enjoy your commentary :))
Thank you for the kind words! We're hobby photographers but this was our first ever attempt at a vlog! We just tried to make something engaging for us to remember it by. We're so happy others are enjoying it. I don't know if we'll do more or not honestly but your words are encouraging. 🥰 Good luck on your launch! 🚀🚀🚀
That's great to hear. You're welcome. When I started, I was looking for something like this to help understand what to expect on my first day. I didn't really find what I was looking for so I figured to document it when I went through it. Thanks to you as well for watching.
Excellent Production quality. It is like an L1 documentary. Nice flight. I enjoyed this video very much. Welcome to High Power. New subscriber here. Can’t wait to see more videos.
Congrats on the L1 I subscribed and plan to check out your channel after this, but I assume you already got your L2 lol. I just started my first custom build with zero previous experience will be going for my L1 this spring so it was a good experience watching you go through it all for your first time. You really went for it with that I motor lol I'm planning to use an H try and keep it low and slow for my first go at it. edit: Bummer only the one video was a really good one though thanks for sharing your experience! I will definitely keep my eye out for any future uploads.
Congratulations! Enjoyed watching your video. I am 44 years old and building a 29mm rocket for a level 1 certification flight in a few months. Enjoy your future heights, sir!
This was awesome! I'm still messing around with low power stuff. I have a few rockets I should have never bought for around here i have no clue where to launch them. Where is the level 2 Cert!? I need to watch and read more about HPR's. At least I can build them here, and travel to launch. Anyways, good for you it was really cool to watch that, thank you!!
Hi Michael. Thank you for the kind words. I just have to get that edited! Id rather be making rockets than videos. I really need to make some time for that.
Oh thank you so much! Yes! I am making it a goal to start posting regularly. I'll try to get a second one up by Christmas and start picking up speed from there.
Richard, this was such a great video. Have you done your level 2 ? If so where’s the video ? You inspired me, I was able to achieve my 1 and 2 out at Lucerne this past May 4th.
Oh wow! Congrats. I really just haven't gotten around to posting my level 2. I want to make sure it's enjoyable for people to watch but the editing process kind of sucks LOL
Impressive for an I motor! I want to do level 1-2, but it's hard to believe there is no club, organization, group, or anything near New Orleans. Somebody just sell me a damm motor! If Uncle Sam trusted me to use Semtex, RDX, and C-4, I think i can handle model rocket motors.
Oh that's a bummer. Where is the nearest club? Yeah, it's not uncommon for clubs to be a few hours away for a lot of people, and it sounds like even more for you. There's enough Mom and Pop rocket companies that would be willing to sell you a motor, especially if you tell them you're doing it for qualification. But yeah, depending on the nearest club, it will be tough to get qualified without a sanctioned event! So the South Louisiana Rocketry club of the National Association of Rocketry isn't active anymore, huh?
Hi Bovinicus, good question. To legally fly high power rockets in the US, a person must be certified by one of the high powered rocketry organizations. It's also a requirement to be able to buy these motors that are larger than hobby size. So, it's not to qualify for a job, but for the ability to participate in the hobby legally and purchase the motors! 🙂🚀🚀🚀
@@RichardsRocketry so basically to achieve amateur rocketry status then. A step closer to military or nasa level launching above "common level" rocketry knowledge?.
@@RichardsRocketry I dont mean to minimize or downplay it. It's cool. I would like to make my own little rockets and launch them. I havent gotten into the hobby, but I love watching things fly into the air, for some reason :)

@@RichardsRocketry I like your style.
It’s an EZI-65 from loc precision. It’s not custom. Or maybe it is to some extent
@@ddogoo3749 You're right! It's a kit that was customized, but definitely not a "plug and play".
Definitely not plug and play, will you release another video? Great content
What I like most about this video is seeing how much fun you are having! This is what rocketry and rocket science is all about.
Congratulations Richard! What a sweet video. 🥰 Well-shot and edited. Thanks for sharing!
That's so nice of you to say. Thanks so much!
I am very late to the party, but congratulations!!! You just inspired me and my team to work even harder on our L1 attempt journey💪💪

Congrats on making Level 1. I hope you post more videos
I do hope to give this channel an honest start soon. Thank you very much.

Really nice video showing what great fun high-power rocketry is. I was happy and excited along with you when you got your certification.
