Yes cable television still exists. I heard a story a couple of years ago just before the pandemic about a network executive who said to his grandchildren "I can introduce you to any star you want, who do you want to meet?" His grandchild asked him "Can we meet Pewdepie?" The executive said "Pewdepie?! What the hell is a Pewdepie?!"
Not only do they still exist, they still think that they are the gatekeepers, and that the internet content is a fad that will go away eventually.

Hi, newfåg here, I've been for down this Tankatsu rabbit hole since I ran into the "Is it gay" video. Binge watching all of these at work, and then listening to this whole walking to work a few days later.
I gotta say, you make a compelling point about the facial expressions. Tankatsu always feels so lively, like when she's annoyed, she looks like she's about to commit shenanigans on someone. Kudos to that. But you know, something I see that you do, that other vtubers don't really use (at least, not since Eileen), is the use of other characters. They really make the videos feel alive, especially when they've got dynamic like MC's tired-of-this-shizz contrast. I always love when I see him cause I know some contentions coming.
Anyways, love all the videos. Thanks for like, existing and stuff. Especially as one of the people who stand against the evil, big bad algorithm and monetization and don't give a hoot.
    🎉
    Peace be upon ya brother.

You've got me looking more into vtubers, and I keep noticing a trend: when it comes to actually making a character, no matter what kind of character, the way people describe approaching it always sounds (to me) like they went on a journey of self-discovery and personal realization. And no matter how you slice it, that's honestly cool to see.

You put in effort and make an effort to be genuine in everything you do. I've honestly never been disappointed in any of your work. I figured things would be rough during the transitional period while you were figuring out what you wanted to do with your energy, but like... I gotta say, I absolutely *love* what you're doing with it now. So long as you're the one doing it, I'm here for whatever art you decide to make!
As for the names, I think I'd recommend a case-by-case basis. If you really tear into someone, maybe don't show them. Something I've experienced from watching vtubers, is that I'm now watching 100+ vtubers. There isn't enough time in the day. I tried watching multiple streams at the same time, but it ate my data cap (it was also a bit of a headache). Now I've come to a situation where I'm consistently not paying attention to people I like, because it feel like if I can't sink in an hour, it's not enough, and if I'm only popping in to say hello all the time, that feels like begging for attention (my mind is not kind about socializing). Haven't figured out a strategy to coexist with the fanaticism, but it's keeping me occupied, so at least there's that.

one of those entities would be the universe, I've building stories for. and other - the vtuber person I wish to bring to live, especially after watching your video. so yeah, thanks.

Personally, I barely ever watch any anime, but your videos on them are so captivating and funny that this doesn't even matter. Like, yeah, I'd never watch Sword Art Online on my own, but I love watching your videos on it.
So keep doing what you're doing! It's great!

Answer to your question: Tough call, yeah. I agree with your friend though - the good feels you'll give the people who like seeing their username on screen next to your character are gonna FAR out weigh any butthurt that might arise from folks who engage with a public figure on a public forum and then flip their shit when that content creator *SHOCK HORROR!* engages back!

Hey dude!, sorry to be a bother but, been following you since the DWK channel 😊. I would like to give it a try to this vtuber thing specially for reaction videos that.. I was about to start several years ago because of the influence of reactors like Renegades React and Alex Side, and now Raritydash ... but I am very self conscious about being ugly as sin... so what I would like to know is what software is the best for starting a vtuber reaction channel, I see Tokatsu Sinclair and she´s very expressive and I love that, I want something similar for my reactions... but I m a virgin in this subjectt of vtubers... . Thanks in avanced for any recommendations (Ps. sorry for the broken English... not my main language.)

I made Tonkatsu using Vroid Studio. I added her accessories (hat, glasses. etc.) using Blender and Unity, but that stuff is optional. You can make a model using just Vroid, and it's not that hard. I use VSeeFace to move her. That's all the software you'll need for the model, and it's all free.
As far as recording goes, I use FL Studio for recording my voice track, but you'd probably be better off using something like Audacity, because it's free. I record my video track with OBS Studio (also free).
In terms of hardware, I use a Logitech C920 webcam for the face tracking, and a Leap Motion for the hand tracking. The microphone I use is an Audio Technica AT2020. All told, that will run you ~280 bucks. You can get a cheaper mic and that would be okay. Make sure you get a good webcam. Don't skimp on that, or it will be hard for you to control the face.
That's everything I use. There are detailed tutorials on how to do every part of this on youtube. The vtube community is very good about documenting everything and making instructional videos to help beginners. It was easier for me, because I already knew how to make videos, I just had to learn the vtube part. If you're new to video production AND vtubing, it'll be more work, but like I said, everything is well-documented and there are tons of tutorials.
It may seem overwhelming at first, but just be patient and tenacious. Break it down into steps, and work on tackling one step at a time. Good luck.

The part about going through a break up. I know that feeling after three tries at a relationship with my ex. Being over a year since her and I were dating. It was long distance, and I opened up about how I left her to someone I know. And they told me that my ex most likely cheated on me. And, before then, the third try through did seem like things were just off.

"I may be new to the scene, but with hard work, dedication and passion, someday I - Unit - will be one of the greatest anime girls of all time!"
As for comments, *probably* names are fine; people love seeing their names up in 'lights' which is good for fun factor and all that lovely engagement mindfuckery - plus it's public youtube comments. But still, it's the sorta thing where the risk of people occasionally feeling hurt by it sort of sours the broader case of people having a bit of fun.
Also, if it's any use or assurance regarding the whole 'new subject matter' thing, I've never watched Anime at all but dig the new videos. I never watched the source of the TLR videos either, though, and liked those plenty, so it's not like the content-shift would fundamentally change things. Idk, I guess I just like this style of content or whatever. Having a topic that makes the creator passionate and happy about their productions and gives them something good to work off of is probably the important thing, so this seems good! I mean, obviously. And it's not like I'm an authority on the topic - but hopefully a sprinkling of vapid, over-earnest cold takes will help to balance out the occasional spicy insane youtube-comment rant as far as comment-sections go.

Yeah, I don't really care about anime all that much, but the videos have been hilarious and are pretty congruent with what I subscribed for anyway, so I'm sticking around. And you know what, maybe one day, you'll talk about an anime and I'll go, "Hey, that actually sounds like something worth watching..." and then I'll watch like two episodes and struggle to continue on because there are just so many other things I'm watching. It's probably really unhealthy and I need to trim down on UA-cam and TV, and just the Internet in general.

Glad to hear Tonkatsu is a character and not a lifestyle choice. 😀 As for the names in the comments. If the name is roughly anonymous, like Joe or slappyhands, go for it. If it's an actual name, like Jim Smith or whatever, blurring it is probably a good idea.

Cool to hear your thoughts as always and glad you're having fun (in a non-/far less detrimental way).
Either for a reply or a future video:
What are your thoughts on manga, do you read/recommend any? I often read manga because my brain thinks anime is more of a time commitment than hour long youtube videos, so they're more digestible and I can more easily keep up with what's coming out (in regards to updates to things I like).
Also what hardware do you use for face-tracking and hand-tracking.
And thanks you BandleBro for making such a nice background, I could stare at that for multiple 30-minute intervals.
(P.S. I recommend the manga "himegoto juukyuusai no seifuku")

You gotta live your life Unit. Make the content that you enjoy making. Even the "worst" of these new videos or TLRs were still funny as hell. But humor is subjective. Also, thanks for explaining vtube that sounds awesome.
For showing comments, maybe have an acronym or some keyword for people who do want to be shown and of they dont have it, dont show it. Best of both worlds

To be honest, I never watched any vtuber stuff and was kinda turned off by it, so I didn't watch the K-On! Video, even though I really enjoy your content and love this anime. I thought maybe it is "just a phase", but when more Tonkatsu videos came out I said "Fuck it, I like this guy, I'm sure his videos will still be great." Vtubing is still strange for me, but I saw you had a lot of fun with it, so I will happily consume more Absolute Waifu.
About showing who wrote the comment, I personally vote against it. Sure, it can be fun and is nice when people see themselves, but I've seen some comment sections that tried to hard to trigger specific responses. Even if you decide which ones get shown they can get really annoying and repetitive.
But you do you, I will still love your shit either way.

The rise of Tonkatsu means the creation of story arcs of all possible matters so, to that, I welcome it all. As for the anime themselves, well, this comes from a guy who knows jack shit about that, like 99% of the times I come across a title that sounds like gibberish (mostly of the Isekai genre) and I turn away... until now. Tonkatsu is the perfect bridge to know all these worlds that are simply unknown to me.
