    Thanks fixing to change my plugs on the race car my son left me after he died. Have been dreading changing the plugs on the '95 because everyone said they were terrible. You made it look really easy!. Loved the way you adjusted the points. Thanks.

    First time Mustang GT owner here...and have to say ....great video showing all aspects of how to change out the plugs and wires. I was a little nervous attempting it...until I watched your video. I'm a gear head who owned Chevys for the past 28 years...so their tune-ups are different. I was given an estimate by a garage to have both the plugs and wires changed by them for $325 (Labor included). After seeing how easy it will be to do the job, easier than my former GM cars, considering all the plugs were on the Bottom of the motor instead of at the top..I will just buy the Plugs for $40...the wires for another $70 and do the job myself. Spending $110 instead of $325....much better on the wallet. Thanks for showing a newbie like myself, how easy and correctly it can be done! As a consumer on a tight budget, finding a way to spend 1/3 of the cost to fix your car is such a huge plus.

    thanks for this, i jus bought a 98 gt and decided to do the spark plugs my self, i took a break to see a turtorial vid and this is the best thank you. one thing you might want to know, is after doing research a copper plug will give better performance then the motorcraft ones at the cost of having to change them more often.

    BEFORE pulling spark plugs, vacuum and/or blow at (with compressed air) the surrounding area. This way debris will not fall into your cylinder (or less debris at least)...

      I read that it was a good idea to open up a few large plastic trash bags or a large paint cloth across the engine when working on things to keep things from falling and preventing rain or mist or even parts from falling through. I find it works great especially like the large painting cloths when I am spot cleaning my engine.

    Well done video! One shouldn't have a problem with doing their own tune up.*
    *One thing: Since everything was so well done and explained, I was hoping to see how the heck one gets to the #3 and #4 plugs (which is where I stopped because it was difficult to get to). I removed the intake, but still having problems - any tips?

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  8 років тому

      Yep they are a pain for sure, You just have to move things around to get in there. You might have to remove whatever you need to to get in there. I didn't video it because the angle would have been to hard to see and do at the same time. Good luck.

    One thing to add, the plug wires (and I used the same set you show) for the two rear cylinders are just a bit longer than OEM, keep that in mind when you are routing them and it will all be cake.

      Thats great! I haven't had to do that yet, so not sure if its coming or not. I do have a rear seatbelt issue though. I haven't fixed it yet though. I have lots of other Mustang tuneup vids if you want to check them out. I still need to do the brakes and rotors too.

    Do I need to torque the spark plugs to a certain pressure? I just changed most my spark plugs and my friend said not to drive it until I get a torque wrench and torque them all down. And what do I do for spark plugs that won’t loosen I don’t want to put a bunch of force into just getting the first turn on one of them without breaking it. Overall nice video I got through the wires easily just having troubles with 2 spark-plugs that won’t come unloosened

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  3 роки тому +1

      For the most part you can tighten by hand until the lock washer locks and you are not overstraining the tension. A torque wrench is good to have but not necessary. they don't come loose on their own. If you torque, then maybe 12-14lbs

    Hello I have a 96 mustang 3.8 and I changed the spark plugs a few months ago when I first purchased the car but It misfires occasionally. Do you think it could be the wires? Is there a certain way to plug the wire in?

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  9 років тому

      +Carlos Garcia-Santamarina If the wires are the stock ones or are old, its always good to replace the wires too. They can break down after time. As long as they are pushed all the way in on the spark plug and on the distributor cap then they are connected. Have a auto part store hook up the computer and you can see which cylinder is misfiring and then you can check that plug and wire. A wire kit is about 30-40 bucks.

    Good video Sir, Hopefully you or someone can answer this before tomorrow morning. I have a 95 3.8L, and so for I have removed my valve pan covers (putting new gaskets) as well as changing plugs and wires. But my question is I removed the intake manifold due to the driver side cover, well I'am new to working on my car diy. There is a gasket under the intake manifold, now should that be sealant under it? To hold it in place? Maybe this is the reason why I thought my valve pan cover were leaking but instead be the intake manifold gasket with no sealant? Rtv, oil, gasket maker which would be best ?

    • @angelo69jes

      sorry I didn't get back with you, but yes the gasket and a sealer is reccommended

      Harsha R Autolite spark plug wires. Or you can use MotorCraft wires too.

    Hey Ryker Dane...How do you get the wire clips apart? Thats the hardest part of this job and you don't explain it.

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  8 років тому

      +Aaron Valentine If I understand what you are asking, the wire clips that hold the wires just need a flat head screw driver to wedge between the locking plastic part. Or you can use your finger too I think. Hope that helps

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  10 років тому

      Check to see if you have any coolant in your cylinders, Check your plugs to see if it is on them. Is it fouling plugs or misfiring right now?

    • @misterx4757
      @misterx4757 10 років тому

      None of those. But slight leak of water from tailpipe. Haven't changed plugs in two years. Started at 130k miles. At 166k miles.

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  10 років тому

    I just got my spark plugs changed on my 96 GT by a mechanic but he messed up. He ripped a wire and put a spare one it made my car run very rough. I bought new cables and installed them but now my check engine light is on. (It was not on before the new spark plugs were installed, but it was after the new ones were) I checked the wires, they're all secure and plugged into the right place. Could it be that he didn't insert them correctly? Or could it be that he just installed them without checking the spark plugs to see if they were set at .054? Pls help!!!!!!

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  10 років тому

      Well you could have a misfire because one of your plugs could be bad. (fouled) You need to check all 8 of them, then your new plugs should be fine. Also after that make sure your plugs are in the right places on the distributor cap too. There are diagrams for that online.

    Good video but your using a hammer to change the gap to it's proper setting makes me nervous. Having grown up in a garage and doing many tuneups I would strongly recommend using the proper spark plug gaping tool to adjust incorrect settings. Other than that, good job!

      +John J But on the 96-98 they use coil packs (2). Replace them also, as long as you went that far. They are pretty cheap now. Be a shame to not feel any improvement or mileage gains, and the coil packs were actually the problem. Really nice job. I have a '96 Cougar, same engine. Watch out for passenger cyl. bank spitting out spark plug 3,4 or both. Loved your vid, just thought I would point out those two nuggets of info.
