Thanks Dermot. We used to be 4 times that size, but as times changed and manufacturing moved off shore we were reduced to that. They nearly lost the lot, but I believe the minister stepped in and stopped it. Cheers mate 🍻, Aaron
Hello and thanks for watching. Yes not much has changed since you were there. Probably some of the same machines still. Unfortunately it’s a shadow of its former self. Electrical department has take over half the building and they nearly shut mechanical down. A few key industry players lobbied Govt to save it. Thanks for watching. Cheers 🍻
Very Nice shop Aaron 👌 Good to see a mix of Machines available for the students to use. One thing I would Love to own is a Cylindrical Grinder. Not for anything in particular. Just a machine I always enjoyed working with. Most prefer Surface Grinding ??? Surface grinding was a little Boring for me 😴 Looks like Aaron might have some machines handy for those jobs on the side 🤔 Hopefully you will revisit this video with a walk around the CNC area. Thanks for showing us around. Peter 👍
Thanks Peter. It’s hard to believe but the centre used to be six times bigger than what it is now. Unfortunately, interest and apprenticeship numbers in engineering mechanical (fitting & turning) has drastically declined over the years, but hopefully they are trying to reinvigorate the subject area. I have to wait for the ministerial launch before I can show the CNC machines. But I did provide a sneak peak on my Instagram page. If you’re over that way please feel free to pop in Peter. It’s Melbourne Polytechnic TAFE on the corner of Bell Street and Waterdale Road. 👍🍻
@@AaronEngineering Looks like you're in a Happy place there. Hopefully this job works out a little better than previously. All the best for the future 👍
Good looking shop dude. Love the Jones and Shipman. Looks like you have a nice Union Chuck on it. Also Love the deep catch reservoirs on the mills. Can't tell you how many times I had them on my manuals. Thanks Aaron...Ricko
Howdy Ricko. Thanks for following along. It’s not bad old machine shop is it. I actually hadn’t noticed those deep catch reservoirs 🤦♂️. Thanks for pointing them out. Hope you’re well over there mate. Cheers 🍻 Aaron
Hey buddy. Thanks for watching. Yes some nice big old girls in there. Probably a little large for training, especially the work we do with the apprentices. Cheers 🍻
Hello Aaron, Thanks for the video, it's always interesting to see where the apprentices do there training... Looks like a nice environment for them to learn. Cheers. Paul,,
G’day Paul. Yes the workshop has definitely shrunk over the years. We are hoping to turn it around and bring some sexiness back to engineering. The new CNC workshop is very capable. I still need to tool up and them running. Cheers buddy 🍻
Hey Micheal. Thanks for watching mate. Not much of a video this week, but just wanted to share the new workplace and machines. CNC machines are nearly ready to go. Cheers 🍻
Hey , watched this a couple of days back ! Looks like a pretty good set up . Do they have heat treatment as well . I remember one project we had to make on block release was a hardened & ground 22mm spiral flute reamer . 👍
G’day Max and thanks mate. She’s a very old but capable set up. The centre has churned out many apprentices many over the years. They used to make many different projects Max. But unfortunately over the years there has been a massive decline in apprentices and the trade has lost its sexiness. Hopefully Andrew and I can turn it around with a blend of old and new projects. Cheers mate 🍻.
Hi Opie. We are waiting for the minister of parliament to do the official opening. I can’t mention the centre name or show to much. A load of BS if you ask me. Cheers mate 🍻
Hi Mark. Yes when I got there the lathes were absolutely putrid. They brought cleaners in and gave them a good tub 🛁 🧼. To be honest, they are too large for most of the work apprentices do. Cheers buddy 👍🍻, Aaron
G’day Kevin and thank you. Yes the new job is crazy busy at the moment. Doing my best at trying to stay afloat. Lots to do that is for sure. Cheers buddy 👍🍻. Aaron
Hi Ian. Behind those curtains are 5 brand new Haas CNC mills and lathes. One VF2SS has a 5 axis trunnion, the other VF2 has a robot arm attached, and the mini mill has a 4th axis. We have a Haas ST20Y lathe with Y axis and live tooling (axial and radial). We also have a stand-alone Fanuc robot arm and Markforged carbon fibre printer. Cheers 🍻 Aaron
@@AaronEngineering Wow! Sounds like you got everything you need Aaron, not a lot you can't do in that shop! The apprentices will get top notch training I'm sure. Seems like STEM is gaining ground steadily, with more and more students going into apprenticeships. Regards Ian
Aaron, Lot better equipped than my old Alma Mater here in Sydney ( Meadowbank Tech.) Mind you, that was nearly sixty years ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love to see a vid. Of the new CNC area once the Minister has ‘opened’ the facility 😏. Keep ‘em coming mate, Regards Grasshopper
Thanks Robert. It’s an old, but very well equipped centre. Would be an excellent place for Kevin to do his Australian CAD CAM training. If you’re ever down this way again I’d love for you to pop in and have a gooses gander. Cheers buddy 👍🍻
G’day Mike. Yes it’s an excellent establishment. Unfortunately they have some administration and politics issues that place a damper on other. Cheers mate
@@bluehandsvideo had a chat with them today about it. It is definitely been baptism by fire that is for sure. G’day Tom. Hope you’re well buddy. Glad to see you got that speed vise handle finished. You did a good job with it. Yes this is at an Institute called Melbourne Polytechnic. It’s where apprentices are trained. I’ll do a CNC update later. Cheers buddy 🍻. Aaron
Hello Eugene and thanks for watching. Unfortunately not a very professional video this week, as I spent no time filming and editing. However, I just wanted to show my subscribers my new workplace etc… you are doing some nice work on your channel. Cheers and all the best 👍🍻. Aaron
Hi Brandon. Sadly this has also happened here to. The so called “experts” running the country think they know better. Thought the could “offshore” all manufacturing. That bit them in backside during and after Covid. Main stream education has also suffered. Many teachers have left the system due to the idiots running the schools with their leftist woke ideology. I could go on, but I think you understand where I’m coming from. Cheers mate 🍻. Aaron
The best apprentice workshop I've ever seen! Love those Colchester lathes, look so lovely.

Memories use a number of these machine as an adult student a couple of years ago. Was called Heidelberg Tech when I was a student there 55 years ago
