    My family are from Cavan. I lived there in 1958 and we got electricity in 1960. Lovely hearing about the family the house and outhouses .All very similar to the layout in many of the houses at that time. My family name is Galligan very common name in Cavan. I live in Liverpool now and can remember my time in Ireland with great foundness.

    A very touching video. I would like to thank the Farrelly family for posting it and for sharing their experiences with the many in Ireland and further afield who remember a time when this was the ordinary life of so many families across the country. I'm not from Cavan myself but rather from the south of the country - in my part of Munster this was already a very old-fashioned house in the 1950s. Nonetheless, as we see here, it provided a home for a full family of children who have since moved on to the much-maligned bungalow or indeed, life on faraway shores.

    Far from being “mean” I’ve found the Cavan people the nicest and most genuine people that one could meet, even though I’m from Co. Meath, I knew a Cavan man from my 13 years in Superquinn 20 years ago - and even if there are potholes on Cavan’s roads, they are nothing compared to the roads around my area of Manchester U.K. where I currently live

    Hope you restore this house to original state if you can. This is a reminder of how people overcame adversity and survived. God bless the people who lived here - this is real history. Today we celebrate the 4th of July in USA. The Irish contributed so much to the USA and world in general. We are free today, in part, because of their and other immigrant's sacrifices. Slainte.

    Wow I just came across this video. I wonder if I'm related to you all. My 4 x great grandmother was Margaret Farelly, she came to Canada about 1835. I know she is listed as being a flax spinner when she was 22 yrs old. I believe her father's name was Arthur. She married a fellow Cavan named Edward Coyle. They had a nice life here in Canada. I'm going to try and send the photos I have.

    Thank you so much. My ancestors on my mother's side came from Drumhecknagh. On my father's side, there is a distant ancestor from Cavan. I've looked at the Cavan countryside on Google maps. A beautiful place.

    Are none of them interested in taking the old farm over & fixing it up ?? I would love to take it over & do that if I were still young & had the money - what a wasted opportunity - it's crying out to be loved again !

    My mother is a Farley and I can find documents with the spelling you use of our ancestor Terrence (my mom’s great-grandfather). According to records, he was from Liverpool before immigrating to Philadelphia. I think Terrence’s father was Thomas who was born in County Cavan. I found some tenant record of him in Killashandra. Anyway, hey distant cousin! Hope to visit the homeland one day myself as well ☘️

    When I was a child almost every one in church hailed from Ireland although the church was not in Ireland. People were surprised that our family did not come from Ireland. The parish school danced in green for School and church activities. The was a church social club which was Irish etc. Now thanks to the use of contraception the Irish have almost disappeared from the parish and have been replaced by Indians and Fillipinos. Contraception is a curse.

    • @JM.5387
      @JM.5387 2 роки тому +1

      Contraception is a blessing. Much better than having children starve. If you didn't live in the "before times" and didn't know their suffering, withhold your judgement.
