This performance is borderline transcendent. I've heard all the wildly talented singers cover this. I have to agree with the guy below that says "staggering and incomparable" because it is. The emotional potency that this is delivered with is not something you can fake. He connects with this song in a way that NO ONE else can... and it shows. It's a chemistry thing. It's the vocal virtuosity AND the emotional connection he has that comes through. And that's where the goosebumps come from.
I'm Dutch. I want to thank the Swedish people. During world war II, they managed to drop many packages of bread on the starving Dutch. I will never forget it. As clear as day, I can see the bread in my little hands. Thank you Sweden.....

From everything I've heard of them both, Tommy has more power, quality and control over his voice. Michael is a really good singer, but not at the same level
Saw an interview with Tommy Körberg and the dane Stig Rossen, who has sung the lead in les miserables over 1000 times in london. Both have sung/played both parts. Stig said that no one sings/plays the role in anthem better than Tommy and Tommy said the same with Stig and his role in Les Miserables.
Joseph H Yes, the intonation on heart has carried on from when he recorded it in 84 and it has never been sung better by any one else after all these years.
läs på lite själv. Detta är mellanakt på melodifestivalen 1992. Där av min kommentar om melodifestivalen. Läs dessutom min kommentar där det klart och tydligt står Anthem som mellanakt.
The original and the best. Others have tried but none can compare. This is one of his best renditions, too, I believe. Reminds me very much of seeing him at the Prince Edward Theatre in about 1987.
He's good, but honestly, I think that Michael Ball's and Josh Groban's versions are on equal footing. Neither is better than the other. However, I will forever argue that Adam Pascal's version of Pity the Child is the best version.
Old comment, but here we go. If you're referring to the recording here on youtube, here's everything wrong with it Gets the words wrong once, ok not a huge deal but you're a professional, so not really forgivable. What?? Breathing in the middle of a phrase? Holy shit look at those shoulders pop up when he inhales! That's like.... very rudimentary stuff there. Needs to fix that habit. Another mid phrase breath. More shoulders. Wanky showing off putting the last note on an A when it doesn't serve the song. I find Ball insufferable and expected all sorts of annoying but it was worse than I thought it would be.
The only man I have ever seen even coming close to equaling Tommy Körberg on this song was David Caroll in the original Broadway production. He was an immense talent that was sadly taken from this world far too early.
I remember being semi speechless the first time I heard Tommy sing this incredible song. The sprawling enigma that is Russia was too powerful for Tsardom or Communisim. The lyrics 'let man's petty nations tear themselves apart' could easily have been written by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. He certainly understood 'Mother Russia' as did the lyricist who penned it.
Tim Rice would have certainly got the historic concept of Mother Russia and the ambiguity of loving a nation with such a cruel history of suffering inflicted on its own people and which is still sadly still going on today.

Absolutely staggering and incomparable. This is Tommy's song, many have tried, but no one has ever been able to come close.

Josh Groban came close but... no, this is Tommy's song. He made me cry.
The fact that he walks into this piece smiling and then immediately becomes his character means he owns this.
Superb.
Awesome! just awesome!
Magnificent
Körberg at his absolute peak! I Haven't heard any musical piece performed with this combination of heart and skill.

Tommy Körberg... En av Sveriges bästa sångare genom tiderna! Ingen gör "Anthem" som han! :)
Nej ingen!
+Carl Lindquist Josh Groban...
Johan Wennberg Josh är duktig han! Men Tommy är originalet... :)
+Johan Wennberg han har operett röst och sjunger sången så .. han är usel
+Carl Lindquist Björn och Benny skrev låten för Tommy, så är kanske inte så konstigt att han kan sjunga den bättre än någon annan ;)
He absolutely owns this song. No one does come close. Unique voiced...clarity and power.
