Been involved in construction for several decades. Also taught the subject. Read many books and believed in simplicity. I must say that this is one of the best videos I have ever seen. Basic, simplistic and easy to understand. Kudos to you sir. You should be teaching in an Apprentice school. Absolutely great job. Beautifully illustrated. Thank you. A joy to watch.

I am new to construction, and I am builing a 12 x 16 shed. Why is there not a video with simple plans for a 12 x 16 simple 2 x 6 rafters joined with a gusset so iIdon't have to fiques out the math?

@@christinerameau885 you can order a complete 12 x 16 shed as a kit. No math. Just read the plans and nail it together. But if do not want order a kit. Then Math is necessary to measure and build it.

I'm building a 600 square foot shop- and know nothing about roof rafters or how to design them, i have wached about 15 you tubes on the subject all say the same thing, follow these very simple math equations and you will know how to cut a roof rafter, well i say to them bull hunky. i was starting to pull out what small amount of hair from my head that i have left when i said i will try this vid but it's the last one before i call in a professional. Thank you thank you thank you. i finally get it and i feel very confident now that i can do this. the world needs more teachers like you,

I appreciate the detailed way you describe the "math" and the layout concepts. Don't change the way you are presenting your content. You method "cemented" the concept into my mind so well that I doubt I will ever forget it or need a review. My next stop is your link for more helpful videos. I am a fan.

Super! I always love to figure things like these on the slab somewhere first with live sizes. Then just step back with the framing from the edge of a thickness of plywood wall sheeting and then you don't need to fuss with the roof, since it's ready to go to be installed fast being precut.

I am in the planning process of building my own off grid house and was extremely confused and a little bit scared about building the rafters because of the complicated way everyone explains them. I feel like after watching your video I now have the confidence and understanding I need to successfully complete the task of putting up rafters. I have no experience in building anything. I decided to build a greenhouse to protect my plants from the freezing weather this winter. I was having trouble figuring out how I would make my roof. Your video has helped me figure out what to do to get a stable roof and how to cut my angle at the top. Thank you for making it so easy. Don't change your videos. I'm attaching to my house and using 2 x2 x8 boards and plastic to cover the roof and sides. Nothing is level or at right angles. Fun projects! Thank you.

    GREAT !!!
I love how simple it can be made, ...
leaving all those whom invest tons of money into tools out to dry...
meaning... it's not as important to have all the fancy tools as one might think... just need saws, pythogaerom theorem, calculator pencil, paper or something to write on like wood to make note and marks and measuring tape, maybe chalk line... (clear water hose ends with fluid in them for leveling) ... that is all you need, and most important IDEA of what you want to do and how to do it studying these youtube videos really helps, one really has giant advantage that all the previous generations of builders never had... youtube is a coach is like having GPS maps in your car is helpful to all whom previously used paper maps and counting freeway exits to your destination for turn off connecting roads on the way to somewhere else... love youtube and everyone taking the time to teach, many many thanks!

Excellent video! Nothing is too lengthy, very clear, practical, and useful. Math works the same way, but practically only easy if using the metric and decimal system, and no mistakes are made when marking the lumber. This makes it faster, isolates you from the material's dimensional inconsistencies, and inspires confidence.

Good presentation. Have to make sure side walls are nice and plum and right width so bird mouth fits snugly on top plate. Good job.
