    Kay covers the Saints by far the best of any mainstream "national" media... and its not even close.

    As a Raider fan... generally DC always takes off in year 2 of an offense. He has had zero consistency in an OC and in the times he did (twice 2016 and 2021) he was able to help get team to the playoffs. The only reason why he didn't in year 2 with McDaniels, was McDaniels micro manager of every play.

    Most of the national media has labeled the Saints as a "run it back" team because most pundits (not Kay) don't address the huge changes in the offensive coaching staff and strictly look at their lack of marquee free agents, aside from Chase Young.
    Most media outlets have portrayed the Saints having a below average offseason, but I think they handled it exactly as the should have: they addressed the cap space by not signing big name players, revamped the offensive coaching staff, acquired a younger developmental roster while keeping their locker room leaders (Cam, Demario, Tyrann), and didn't burn draft stock to move up in the draft. There was no reason for them to hedge the future when the team showed what they could do at the end of last season.
    Saints winning the division at +340 odds is a steal, they are at least as likely to win the division as the Falcons or Buccaneers. Thanks K, Who Dat

      I agree with most of this but we have absolutely no reason to think the saints will win this division. The talent did not improve, Carr has shown to take a long time to learn new systems and DA is just a bad head coach. Great offseason but not that optimistic until they show me something on the field

    • @ItsMoonFish
      @ItsMoonFish 2 місяці тому +1

      @@sonnywilldie I don't think our raw talent improved significantly either, aside from the defensive side of the ball.
      But Sean Payton and Pete Carmichael's play calling was notoriously difficult for the average player to grasp; they were extremely verbose, meant to precisely describe each on field movement, and had few stock plays in the book. A prime goal for this year's team and Kubiak is to simplify offensive play calling to make it more accessible to new players. Need to see it by training camp, but there's a real chance it helps Carr's communication.
      This is an unpopular opinion in NFL fans right now, but I don't think Tampa or Atlanta improved their chances at winning the division any more than the Saints did. Cousins is an improvement to the ATL QB room, but I wouldn't rank him any higher than Carr or Mayfield. The Falcons desperately needed to address their pass rush, and they opted for Penix.
      I look at them as all 7-10 win teams. I wouldn't be surprised if Tampa, Atlanta, or New Orleans steal the division by a one game margin again. And with that logic, taking a stab at a bet for Tampa at +290 and New Orleans at +350 is statically worth it

    I’ve been watching last years Saints’ games and believe that if Derek didn’t get hurt the Saints prob win 2-3 more games Just watched the Lions game and he was on his way to possibly winning that game before Bruce Irvin drove him into the turf!! Detroit was a GREAT team last year! Of course, like every chance Winston had to win the game for NO he failed (last drive was horrible)!! I’ve been watching Derek his whole career and know that he’s a much better QB than people give him credit for. Cracks me up how quickly a lot or some NO fans don’t believe in him!! Let’s go DC4!!

    I don't know why people just don't get it when it comes to Carr. He needs a solid oline. The line played better later in the season vs the pure trash they were for most of the season. The results speak for themselves. The last time he had a solid skill position group AND a good line was 2016. Feel free to look and see how he did that year. He isn't Mahomes. He isn't going to carry a team on his shoulders when everyone around him sucks. That's how most teams work. If your team HAS to have a top 5 QB to have success, then your team sucks. Welcome to football. Get him a line (which they have worked on, only time will tell if it's improved) and, with the chemistry he has developed over time with his skill players, he'll be just fine. Football 101 - The game is won and lost in the trenches.

    The main problem with us wasn't Carr.. It was an ENTIRE team with mess ups, him definitely included with a few bad INTs. But that line couldn't protect him at all. That was our main issue. And our kicker missing some big kicks... and of course Carmicheals play calling. Even with all that we had a winning season, but missed the playoffs. If we can keep that and build with it how we have this offseason... we should be looking VERY good.

      QBs throw picks when they have unfocused uncooperative receivers, rbs and a porous online... That's normal. I wouldn't attribute it to the particular QB.
      And even if you did put picks solely on the QB, just compare that to Brett Favre, who threw as many picks as he did TDs in his career... That guy is a HOFr.

    Other things not mentioned: 1) Carr was banged up badly in a few of the games last season (he shouldn't have started them). 2) The schedule gets tougher this year and the Saints will need to play better, or we'll see carbon copies of last year's Rams game.

  • @SeventhSonofASeventhSon77
    @SeventhSonofASeventhSon77 2 місяці тому

    If Carr had better teammates, teammates that weren't hating on him and pouting instead of doing their best, he wouldn't have struggled as much as he did in the first part of the season... Might have not even been injured as he was.
    Those guys are gone now... I expect Carr will have a really good season in 2024.

    Anyone who’s been paying attention figured out that Derek Carr is an AVERAGE quarterback. Sometimes he’s great, and sometimes he’s crap, often in the same game. The saints are a 9 win team at best with Carr, but I would take the under. They’ll probably finish 3rd in their division.

    • @philwaugh9095
      @philwaugh9095 2 місяці тому +2

      If your team can't be successful with an AVERAGE QB (which he is and always has been), then your team sucks and is poorly constructed. If only a team with a top 5 QB can win, then there is no reason for the other 27 teams to bother playing the game ;)

    • @SeventhSonofASeventhSon77
      @SeventhSonofASeventhSon77 2 місяці тому +2

      If all you do is hang on a few popular stats then that's what you'll think. But if you've followed him closely then you know better.
      If he's so "average", then how has he done so well with such a huge amount of coaching change, a couple of heavy injuries and almost no help on offense or defense for the bulk of his career?
      He also has made a habit of getting previously washed up receivers like Zay Jones, Nelson Agholor, Michael Crabtree and others paid fat... Straight up resurrected their careers.... Renfrow, who Carr also got paid, after leading the team in receptions and making the pro bowl, also fell off the map when McDaniels decided to scapegoat Carr out of Vegas... That's a big data point considering Renfrow isn't the most physically capable of receivers.
      And that doesn't touch on the rave reviews he gets as a teammate from current and former teammates, which is worth a lot.
      Naw man... Carr is underrated. His organization spent 9 years failing him and he still stuck with them to his own peril, which also shows a level of character that most QBs don't have... That leadership is worth something.
      Vegas made a mistake moving on from him, and we're reaping the consequence of an unstable QB situation right now because of it.
      If the Raiders had kept Carr last year and dropped McDaniels at the same time they ended up dropping him, then the Raiders, no doubt would have made the playoffs with AP.
