yes, Evangelion it's a Rorschach test in anime. Each viewer is going to interpret something different, it's one of those series that I hated the first time I saw it, and I loved it the second time I saw it. A bit of context is needed, when you understand that episode 25 and 26 show what happens in the minds of the protagonists and the "End Of Evangelion" movie shows the same events from the viewer's perspective. then you get more substance.
Maybe if you don't understand the themes, the show seems all over the place. The show literally points out the central theme: People are lonely and want to socialize and connect but eventually they get hurt or betrayed by other people. Called the "hedgehog dilemma" - so is it better to embrace being hurt, manipulated or abused by other people (like Shinji) or to abandon human connections and feelings (like Gendo)? The angel giant monsters are all sideplot to that central theme. The show in the end is really about the characters selfishly manipulating or abusing each other to get what they want. Even from episode 1 - Gendo forces Shinji to do what needs to be done. If you notice - all the characters in the show have psychological damage and problems because they have past trauma or problems with people. They were all mentally hurt from previous situations. The theme is how people hurt other people even though they want to have healthy relationships.
Oh boy. This is one where you see folks start a show and you just gotta know how they'll all take it once it's over. I feel like they'll benefit from having discussions built in as opposed to anyone whose first watch was solo. Glad Chris J is on the couch. Can't know if he'll like it or hate it, but I feel like he'll be good at parsing the show.
I am literally so hyped right now. The not use weekly reactions at current are so stacked it’s unbelievable. Castlevania finally, new Demon Slayer, Attack on titan, AND NOW EVA?!? holy shit!

"It's 1997, you just got this DVD from your cousin" I first watched this on VHS tapes I borrowed from the nerdy kid at school who barely knew me. He seemed so annoyed about it too, his friend told him to lend them to me. I was like a year or two younger than him. This was my first anime XD
This is simultaneously the weirdest anime in the best way and the weirdest anime in a bad way. Its fantastic and confusing, hype and uncomfortable, action and slow points. But its also the most thought provoking show I've ever watched. You guys are in for a serious ride.
I grew up with this show when I was a kid, it was a long journey and I cried when I reached its end. I hope you guys enjoy this show because it is a tough one but definitely a unforgettables experience.
Woa, that's one of the greatest and I never would have expected this! 🤩 Hopefully the movies are in their radar too. At the very least they need to watch the Rebuild of Evangelion at some point.
Hey, good call on the FLCL vibes. I'm not sure if it's the same studio or just the director, but they in fact do have some of the same creative minds behind them. I was genuinely excited to see this, I've been looking for more reactions to anime that weren't made so recently (it seems pretty much everyone does the same 5 shows), or especially were huge when I as getting into anime like Eva was. It was insanely popular, and everything amazingly animated. The OP on its own was a sensation actually, lol. There is (was?) a warning siren in Japan that plays this opening theme song instead of the usual tune for its testing system. Watching the dub of it is painful, Rei's Japanese voice actress is a woman I followed the career of for years, owned several of her CD's, and Shinji is kinda.... Eh... But it's still worth it to watch how you guys are gonna react to this, I think, so I'm looking forward to more anyway lol.

I'm not sure if the stuff I saw near the end really happens or if I had some kind of fever dream - still kind of processing where the whole thing went. I couldn't yet bring myself to watch any explainer videos but think I'll watch your guys' reaction just to make sure I'm not the one who lost his mind here. 😅 Some of this imagery really stuck with me. Also, I don't blame you for going with the dub but that'll take some time getting used to. ^^

Its funny how chris stated the FLCL vibes, considering this is Gainax and theres alot of Eva staff who went on to do FLCL. Actually Hiroyuki Imaishi(who would go on to animate on FLCL and direct Gurren Lagann) and Yoh Yoshinori of left Gainax to form studio Trigger.

3 of my favorite shows have been added to your guys channel in the past 1-2 months and I couldn’t be any happier
Young Justice, Castlevania, and now this!! 🔥 🔥 🔥
Keep it up Normies!
Edit: Make sure you guys watch End of Evangelion after finishing the show!!
That opening brings me back to my early 20's, when I first watched this mentally scarring series
Man I didn't expect this at all! I'm so glad you're reacting to this
yes, Evangelion it's a Rorschach test in anime.
The show literally points out the central theme:
People are lonely and want to socialize and connect but eventually they get hurt or betrayed by other people.
I WAS HERE. Btw yeah y'all ain't ready for any of this and I'm here for it tbh lmao.
Castlevania finally, new Demon Slayer, Attack on titan, AND NOW EVA?!? holy shit!
You all are in for a wild ride oh my goodness
Oh boy they are in for a wild and mindfuck of a ride.
oh my god i predicted the future. I saw an eva shirt in a buffy reaction and joked about "so whens the eva reaction"
I can't believe this!! My favourite channel and my all time favourite anime! Thanks to you guys
What a blast from the past! I didn’t even have to hear the intro music, still burned into my memory.
Once you get to watch all of the episodes and the movies you understand the themes and what is really the core of evangelion and how shinji grows and learns about life.
Oh God. This rabbit hole. I can't wait
This show is both the cause and the cure of my depression, can't wait for you guys to react to it👍
Also, this show has a lot of vague and philosophical aspects, so not everything will make a lot of sense :)
Oh boy. You guys are in for a ride to say the very least. I only finished it in the last two months and I can't stop thinking about it. It is now one of my all time favourite favourites. Without a shred of hyperbole this is the work of absolute genius and raw unfiltered imagination.
"It's 1997, you just got this DVD from your cousin" I first watched this on VHS tapes I borrowed from the nerdy kid at school who barely knew me. He seemed so annoyed about it too, his friend told him to lend them to me. I was like a year or two younger than him. This was my first anime XD
I remember first watching this in 1996 or 1997…. For me greatest anime ever. It warms my heart to see a reaction.
YES, the promised time has arrived! I'm sure your discussions for this will be veeeery interesting.
My favorite series!!! So glad I found you guys before you started this.
The Journey you are about to embark on is one of darkness, depression, and courage of a boy named Shinji Akari
I've waited ... I've waited 85 years ... FINALLY!!!!!!
This is the start of many anime trope. The quiet girl, the tsundere, the shut in protag, and the anime dad of all anime dads.
SO HAPPY YOU’RE REACTING TO THIS!!!
Marketa: "I'm confused."
Get ready to say that A LOT lol
"Dad you could just say I love you" pretty much summarizes this show 😂
I was not expecting this. Hopefully you enjoy it and definitely watch the rebuild movies!
Agreed. Can't truly appreciate the rebuild movies without seeing the original show, IMO.
Woa, that's one of the greatest and I never would have expected this! 🤩
Hopefully the movies are in their radar too.
I literally just finished this series for ther first time and am SO CONFUSED. So glad I can see yall go through the journey.
The editing in this video is so much fun, I love it!!
Oh shit, it's time to GET IN THE GODDAMN ROBOT, SHINJI
N2 mines are nuclear mines without radiation. So just as destructive, but doesn't poison the world.
What?! My favorite reacting crew, doing my favorite series and franchise?! My only hope is that I live long enough to see you go through the whole thing, including the End of Evangelion and the Rebuild movies. Evangelion is my most important franchise, and I hope you get many complicated things out of it, as all do who experience it.
Marketa: The dad could just say 'i love you'/ oh you dont know anime do you...
Oh my god, this is my favorite anime of all time, and I didn't know until now that you were reacting to it!
We going all the way with OVA's and Movies?! Let's GO!
Wasn't expecting this in my notifications,, oh boy here we go
Editor-San a Real one
We getting Third Eva-Fan Omnicient narrative-
And I'm here for it!
“I feel like it’s gonna be a fucked up show.” You have no idea. Glad you’re watching it 🙂.
I really hope y'all do all of it. And the five movies they made.
I watched this a year ago, going in completely blind. I knew it's a 90s Anime about giant robots and that's it. ^^
Normies about to learn the meme "Get in the f'n robot, Shinji!"
The recent Evangerlion movies that just released are my favourite iteration of the Evangelion story. I wish there were more people that reacted to them on youtube. I'm always happy to see more people experiencing Eva though :)
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think you guys would react to this! 🤩
And so, the countdown to Gurren Lagann begins.....
They're doing gurren after this?
@@alexmartin6561 lol no they’ve never said they would… I am just making assumptions because it would logically make sense to I’d think…
@@Pavi132 Oh, lol. Imo given how much they're diggin the 90s art style, gun buster with shinji's female counterpart would be a good follow up.
Upvote!!!!
OH MY GOD!! THIS IS REAL!? Reaction of EVA°!? 😱😱😱😱😱🥳
Congratulations.
I hope that later they will also see the 4 movies with the new version of the series.
2:08, Me as a 27 year old born in 1995 reading that, I was like waaait a minute???
Dope you guys are starting this show!
YOOOO? They about to dive into something wild
GET IN THE MECH SHINJI!! I’m so hype y’all are doing this show.
Auska and her Eva are my favorite character can’t wait for y’all to meet her
She's an insecure and egotistical narcissist
N2 mines are actually non-nuclear, so don't worry, no one's getting irradiated.
Mickey reacts to shows like he's coming up with material for a stand up routine 😂
He reacts to everything like that. Dude just can't stop making jokes on everything
@@adityaagarwal3313 yea and the shows he's seen like the office and iasip, he just giggles constantly lol
No, its because he takes medication for anxiety. I know this because I have the same condition. I had to stop the medication because I couldn't enjoy "tense" or depressing shows anymore.
@@Blazee2897 but he was more tame and concentrated in TLOU reactions. And that's a depressing show. Idk if it's because of meds, but imo it's just him trying to be funny. Chris and Suraj are the same way sometimes
@@KurotsuchiDClown I mean think about it. Avatar is one of the first things they reacted to and its a really old channel. I brought the anxiety thing up because he mentioned it in one podcast which they started doing only recently. So its safe to assume he wasn't on medication at the start of this channel.
Welcome to Depression: The Anime
Not sure if this gets addressed later on, but the N2 Mine they use against the Angel in this episode is "Non-Nuclear," hence N2. They have the same power output, but without the radiation.
The mine in this episode was set in the path of the Angel, so it's not like it'd been just sitting there for years.
Oh wow are you going to react to the whole anime? I’m excited! This is one of my favourites!!
When you think about it the manual he read had nothing to do with the assignment he was tasked with, kinda like a real exam💀💀💀
"This is a child abuse" one second in, safe to say they're picking up on some of the themes...
