@@matthewbailey8588 He actually said that the only way he knew how to love someone was to choke them to death, basically, they have to stay with him and not leave no matter what. That's what he did with Jason. He couldn't accept the fact that Jason wasn't happy within the band due to his limited acceptance as a creative member so he had to search for a creative outlet somewhere else. That shouldn't have affected Metallica but James couldn't deal with the fact that they weren't enough for Jason.
He actually said that in Some Kind of Monster, the documentary
Love it or hate it, St. Anger was probably the most important album for Metallica with James going through alcohol addiction and things getting heated up with Lars, Kirk and Roberto.

I always thought st anger had a dynamic to it ... it's an out of control album but the band was coming out of a bad situation on personal levels as well as a group . The lyrics fit well and the music compliments the environment... so in reality they did well on it ... is it musically a good album ..no but in terms of a raw album u can feel what they are going thru on it

Can’t argue that, it’s why I listen to the live versions if possible. When they were doing the voted set lists, there was this one where st anger was voted in, Lars’s kit was back to “normal” and so that and they played it pretty quickly too, they might have caught less shade if it had sounded that way,

They wanted to make an album raw, like a garage band, so the concept is great, this song in particular talks about Jason and how James always reflect on his behavior the issues of abandonment trauma "love is control, I die if I let go" what a great song.
Don't give a shit what anyone thinks but this is Metallica's rawest and most emotional album ever! James's lyrics reflect how we as humans act everyday. This song sums it up beautifully.

I like Metallica, but this is nothing but noise and awful vocals. James Hetfield has a much better voice than this, too bad he didn't use it on this song. This song makes me want to rip off my ears and Stingray Rock has to play it at least three times a day...grrr..

The point of this album wasn't to make beautiful music. It's basically a product of 2~ years of group therapy and the guys re-discovering themselves.

Best song on the album, on their best album. That unhinged ending and all the voice cracks is something out of a SYL record. That main riff is stupid heavy.
A song is not just not good but truly bad when you cannot really get into it no matter how much you drink or smoke first. It is like an AI program wrote this.
