I love chaka so much and haven't had it in a while, so this is great! I know in Haiti they use the dried corn kernels. Which kind do you use? And does it affect the taste?
This is my first introduction to this dish. I'm curious to try it, but I wonder what it would be like to add some additional spices. Maybe a scotch bonnet, 1 or 2 cloves, green onion, bits of plantain instead of dumplings? Perhaps a bit of cumin (I know Haitian cuisine doesn't usually use this spice). This recipe really has my mind thinking of ideas. Thank you.
You have earned a spot as one of my most favorite cooks on You tube. You have such a sweet personality. I love the fact that you are straightforward and hide nothing when sharing your recipes with your viewers! God Bless you!!
YEAH!! This is the vegetarian version. The only thing missing was the squash at the end and for added flavor some green & red peppers, onions and scotch bonnet peppers. I tell people all the time it's easy for me to be a Haitian vegetarian. A lot of Haitian foods are great for vegetarians because of the spices caribbeans use in their foods. Ex. joumou, boullion, mayi moulin, legume, blay, piti mil, sauce pwa, rice, plantains and many more.
Mwen Amerikan, sa ede mwen pou konpren kwizine reset la, paske li pale nan angle. Petèt li kap fe soutit (sous-titre) nan kreyòl anba pou w. Manje la pou tout moun, wi? Pa jus pou ayisien yo. Fòk pataje, sa a bon bagay.
Do you know what are the historical origin of chaka?: During slavery, the maids were also slaves, but theirs jobs were to cook for the masters family, put on the table, and serve the master in the dining room: After the family is finished to eat ,the maid picked up the plates with rests of food, collected it,and to warm up later, they didn't get enough to eat anyway, this is why chaka has many different ingredients: it's called chaka.
mwen konnen chak moun fè chaka jan pa yo. grann mwen soti grangwav. li fè li totalman diferan. mesi anpil pou resèt paw la. kontinye ak gwo kokenchen travay sa ke wap fè a.

Mwen te kap pou yon tan long pou resèt sa a. Yon dam te fè yon videyo men li te twò lontan, epi li mande pou lajan plis don. Ki jan yo fè Chaka WAY ayisyen an!.
